Acer XR341CKA 21:9 QHD G-Sync IPS Monitor

Yes exactly... I'd read even though it can work at 85Hz, it's not optimal, so forget 75Hz. But if ULMB can't operate at 100Hz due to G-Sync, and you can only achieve 100Hz by using G-Sync, then I just don't see how this monitor can feature ULMB. Not that I've seen it officially stated that it will... it seems to be pure speculation (and hope) for the most part.
 
Someone more technically minded than me may be able to explain better, but I am quite certain I have read it simply doesn't operate below 85Hz. Easy to ask 'why not', but as I understand it, it simply doesn't and cannot.

As far as I know it could in theory work if they wanted to at 75hz. But as quite rightly said, at that kind of strobe frequency it would probably produce some visible flicker. That's where the 85hz lower "limit" has really come from. Some manufacturers have provided strobing for low refresh dates like 60hz by doubling the strobe freq to 120hz so it's two strobes per frame. So it's possible Acer could do something similar here even at 60hz or 75hz
 
Monitor just arrived. The box is huge... Will test it on Saturday and post pictures.

Like others have said, I dont understand how g-sync mode can operate up to 100 hz, but otherwise limited to 75 hz. Apparently g-sync / variable refresh rate comes with properties that makes it possible to delay / mask the panel problems that would occur without g-sync?

Total guess:

When we overclock monitors we sometimes have to modify timming if signal to reach higher rate.

Maybe since Nvidia has absolute control over monitor and gpu they can use modified signal that has some deviations normally not allowed by standards.
 
That is a pretty damn long wait for the panel.. Not sure if i want to wait until then.

The only thing that even comes close to delivering what this Acer can is the BenQ curved monitor but it's clearly overpriced for being 1080p and no g/freesync. If you can't wait for this monitor then what will you get instead?

well not really. There are 2 threads about Acer 34 monitors and neither is exclusively for freesync.

But as it is same panel and same producer I think posting here is not a problem and I do not want to open a new thread.

I am looking forward to try it on Sunday. I would do it earlier, but I do not have AMD setup right now. Will post pictures and give general impression.

I cannot find anyone that already got this monitor. In Germany where I live, there is only one place one can buy it. They had 4 monitors since Monday. I am the only one that bought it so far... Eiter people are not interested that much or it is too expensive (which it is imho. 1199 eur).
 
It is - Dell with 60 Hz and no sync is around 900 EUR

Dell is now 800 eur in Germany, but few months ago you could buy it for 720 eur...

So freesync is at least 400 premium over dell and gsync 500 eur. Now we can also say it is 75HZ (and 100HZ gsync) compared to 60HZ dell.
 
I wonder if Linus actually tested for dropped frames or if he just got it to post the screen @85hz and assumed it worked. For how long he's been around, I have little faith in his technological understanding of monitors outside of marketing buzzwords.

You obviously don't watch many of his videos if that's what you think. He's pretty up on the latest tech in monitors as well as everything else.

I watch every one of his videos. But he seems to highlight color accuracy and panel types and G-Sync/Free Sync. I've never heard him really talk about dropped frames, PWM, or show a UFO test for an "overclocked" monitor. With the G-Sync module almost assuredly giving this panel its 100HZ ability, and another reviewer (who DOES focus on these things) not getting more than 75hz, I'm skeptical to say the least of the legitimacy of the over clock. I'm not attributing it to malice or anything, but people can overclock a panel to 96HZ and drop frames without knowing it if they don't do the right tests.

I would agree with this also. I've never seen him with any test equipment or a reference monitor.

i would've said the same thing as you but in his most recent video it seems he has finally gotten some monitor testing equipment. he doesn't really go into specifics about much of anything, or give any details at all really, other than "most colors have a dE of <4" which is less than spectacular. no links in the description or anything about his measurements either, so, whatever i guess. linus's channel is more of a generalist kind of thing so i'm not really surprised that he doesn't do anything like that with his videos anyway. don't expect anything more from him than "good colors, good for gaming, good monitor."

I mean lets be real here, Linus couldn't even get the model number of the monitor correct....
 
This we will see a holiday sale on this for $999? G-Sync version.

Monitors like these typically don't budge in price until something just as good or better comes out. The original ROG Swift was stuck at $800+ for months after it's launch even during holidays.

I paid 1300 EUROS for mine over 6 months ago.

This Acer is going behave exactly the same, price wise. I'm surprised its not priced at 1500 USD to be honest.

I'll pick it up after a blessing from TFTcentral, in that case. Really been holding off on witcher 3 for this screen. Can't wait!

I'm playing thru Witcher 3 at 60 fps on a curved LG 34" (34uc97) and it looks and plays great. An extra 40 FPS (i.e. on the 100hz predator w/ g-sync) would be cool, no doubt, but the game still looks amazing. So if you have a decent screen and video card(s) now, I wouldn't hesitate to play thru the game.

You will still (hopefully) get to play thru Fallout 4 in November at 100fps on the XR341 :)
 
I can't wait to buy this thing but why is the release date so late? Does it really take that long to overclock the G-Sync module and attach it to the existing LG panel and release the darned thing?

Just guessing, maybe they had to make sure that the thing is actually stable at 100Hz. Would suck real bad to sell a bunch of these only to find out they start to die after months of use. Or they could be fixing up their QC issues after the rocky launch of the XB270HU. Anyway at least we have a timeline for this monitor unlike the Asus version which knows if it will even come out this year at all.
