Drone + Handgun = Flying Gun

As a drone and gun enthusiast, I wanna both congratulate the guy on the absurdity and technical accomplishment of it, and also smack him in the back of the head for tarnishing the image of both in an age when they are getting a bad wrap as it is!

With people afraid that someone beyond visual range is going to kill them with a drone, now some serious law smack down is sure to ensue!

Soon have police drones with guns attached. Just a matter of when it happens.

Insanely illegal, or it will be soon. I mean this is a nightmare for so many different groups of people that otherwise disagree on nearly everything.

Its illegal anyway, no gun is allowed to have a solenoid trigger, its classified as a full automatic. Hell that thing could propel itself if he maxed out the solenoid.

If I shoot down a drone that is armed with a gun, does that count as self defense?

Show me, I think your smoking crack. The definition of a "machine gun", (there is no federal definition for "full automatic"), says the weapon is a machine gun if it fires more then one round with a single pull of the trigger. It says nothing about solenoids or any other electronic means.

That doesn't mean that it isn't still illegal, but that isn't what makes a weapon a machine gun.

As I said, you'll have to show me.

"Firearms within the definition of machinegun include weapons that shoot, are designed to shoot, or can be readily restored to shoot, automatically more than one shot without manual reloading by a single function of the trigger." (NFA handbook 2.1.6)

So if it cant be "readily restored to shoot" more than one round with a button press...

Hell this could turn into a super grey area Akins Accelerator type gig.

Drone + 10W laser

Serial killers (and potential) must be enjoying the ideas in their minds

Military did this with a shotgun already, I thought. Some months back.

Am I wrong in saying that the handgun in the video looks like a PMR-30?
http://www.keltecweapons.com/our-guns/pmr-30/pistol

.22 magnum.

Technologically, I don't have an issue with this, and view it as a cool project.
Ethically, I'm a much bigger fan of maintaining positive control of my weapon, ie: In my grubby little hands. It'd be too easy for someone to shoot down my drone, recover my weapon, and then use it in an illegal manner. Nope. Not getting onboard with this one xD

This falls under the law that makes remotely controlled or automated weapons illegal. Making it airborne just compounds the issue. I bet the guy who posted this video is already talking to the ATF, and pleading ignorance to the law.

Not to mention the FAA. I'm pretty sure that any kind of "flying gun" would violate their regs as well, so that's at least two federal agencies that are probably going to be unhappy with him.

hmm, a drone big enough to handle a pair of AR15 with100 rd drum magazines, and some light armor, and fast enough to keep up with city traffic, and you would have a very nice MUUUUUURRRDER DRONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Cool concept, but he should have just put a paintball or airsoft gun on there as a proof of concept. Then he would likely have no issues with the law.

Cue the government and gun-grabbers pitching epic shit-fits in Three..tw*KABOOOOOM!*

I love this, whoever made this should have used a 3d printed gun to really get the scared and paranoid freaks going nuts hahaha.

Same here! Well said!

I have thought about this myself but not sure I want to relinquish that level of safety and control yet. I would hate to have a flyaway and have to go find that in someones yard lol

There are nth generation weaponized drones in development now at numerous military development centers

lol, not a great idea. I can't imagine something with more recoil than an airsoft pellet will hit the target accurately using most lightweight drones.

Let me introduce my latest invention: Glass Gum, the chewing gum with real shards of glass!

Steve -

You might have seen it or maybe you can find it, I can't, I just looked. But there is a video that I think was from Feb 2015 that shows Germans with a rather large drone and it has an HK sub-machine gun attached. The drone was big enough that there was almost zero recoil.

It was able to put 3 or 4 bullets accurately at 50 yards with mini bursts. They also showed the drone dropping flares, smoke and first air supplies.

It could carry a loads of 40lbs

Anyone else see this video? Share the link plz

I would also like to see the video to find out how it compensates for recoil. Maybe using thrust direction adjustments or with a novel mounting system?

Give it a few years.

I imagine that will be standard practice flying over some property

Who needs security guards when you have autonomous drones flying over the place.

Would be good for home security. Doesn't need to be loaded, just carry the gun around, would you as an intruder chance it?

Problem is, as far as home defense scenarios go, if it's autonomous then it'll fall into the booby-trap category of bad moves. If it's remote controlled, then it's just an extension of the person controlling it and the same concept, that being removed from the action via remote control, also damns you because you'll have a hard time getting a jury to believe you were afraid for your life as you gun down a guy in your back yard from your man cave watching it in 4K on your 65" Sony curved screen TV :D
