Acer Predator XR341CK 34" 144Hz Curved Gaming Screen with G-sync

According to that TFT Central, the G-Sync version (XR341CKA) "will feature an ULMB strobe backlight (Ultra Low Motion Blur) mode as part of the G-sync module for blur reduction benefits."

Unless they really flub it, the G-Sync version of the Predator 34" should be pretty killer! Just wish it was the originally announced 100Hz...

except of course that the gSync version will purported only have HDMI 1.4a, limited inputs and STILL Gsync + ULMB = fail

Question:

Why would you care if it has any input other than DP? I would imagine anyone buying the g-sync version will have an modern nvidia card and plans to use only the DP connection. From what Ive read, DP has plenty of bandwidth to push 3440 x 1440 at 75 hz.

for Irony... given all the hoopla (listed as a negative in several reviews) made about AMD products (R9 Series) not having HDMI 2.0.. a bit.. well funny how quickly people brush the lack of hdmi 2.0 input on a $1200-$1300.00 (USD) display.

So in other words you are just trying to stir up crap with an idiotic comment. The people that actually care about the lack of HDMI 2.0 on the AMD cards are using or plan on using a 4k TV as their monitor.

According to TFTUK, it's a factual comment (ie lack of HDMI 2.0), just because you are butthurt about it does not make it idiotic, makes those that complain about the lack of HDMI 2.0 in AMD cards hypocrites when they then turn around and praise a hdmi 1.4a display as a buy on site.

IMHO, using a TV as a monitor is primarily a way for people who are too cheap to go for a better alternative.. with exception to maybe 1-2 TVs, the samsung/lg 21:9 5120 x 2160 or the LG 4K oled.

But hey keep defending your brand of choice, i'll just call em like I see em

Edit: Accord to wiki, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_4K_monitors,_TVs_and_projectors the ratio of HDMI 1.1-1.4 to HDMI 2.0 TVs is about 10:1 (77:8)

So again , for maybe 1/10th of possible HDTVs, and probably at best 1/10th of those might use a 4K TV as a main display.. ALL of that angst and furor over 1/100th of potential users whining about lack of HDMI 2.0 natively (of course ignoring the fact that DP 1.2+ to HDMI 2.0 adapters are forthcoming) .. that seems like the idiotic part

about the only thing your post deserves is this:

Meh size is really just preference. Some would consider 34 inch to be really tiny compared to their 50-60 inch TVs and others would consider that to be tiny compared to their 100+ inch projector screens. Just like you find 34 inch to be a good size many of us are perfectly fine with 27 inch and what it offers.

this

I went (in this order):
1080p, 1080p (24") surround, 3440x1440, 28" 4k (acer xb280hk), 1440p (rog swift) surround, single rog swift, 3440x1440

I thought the XB280HK would be everything I wanted for a long time. Good enough colors, sharp enough pixel density, g-sync, MORE horizontal pixels than the 3440x1440 that people think is the holy grail of immersion

but it was way too small. It didn't feel immersive to me at all - it felt like a downgrade from the setups I had come from

then went to rog swift surround. lost job and had to sell, so went to one of them and essentially "go back to basics" and enjoy one smooth, high speed gaming monitor for simplicity. I couldn't tolerate it. Too small and felt like I was looking through a peephole. Didn't matter how silky smooth it was, I had to twitching my aim around just to take in the scene/view

now I'm back on a UM95 (with more cash in pocket after it all) with more than enough gpu power to keep it pegged at 60hz v-sync for very smooth gameplay. Just going to enjoy this for 1/2 year++ while the market fights over screens like this and any other competitors. I'll jump back in when the consumer tidal waves have settled and prices drop again

What is the latest estimate for release date on this baby? I am sitting on money ready to throw at GPU and monitor.

In Germany it seems it will be available on 23rd this month. It can be ordered from alternate.de for 1199 eur. Freesync model.

Gsync model can be pre-ordered and estimated delivery time is middle August. 1299 eur.

Edit: Although I think this is great monitor and I really want gsync function, I must say that the price is ... just too much :(

and if the manufacturer/Acer runs into a delay/pushback again, there is nothing those pre-order retailers owe you. they will just tell you that the product is still not available and ask if you wanted to cancel your pre-order

again - don't buy into pre-mature product announcement hype. it's absolutely ridiculous these days

If you go to the website I mentioned, freesync model can be ordered now, and gsync pre-ordered.

I will for sure not jump into hype and buy it now. I will wait for reviews and see how it goes with price in the next 3 months. Asus model should be out by then.

Dell model kinda killed it for me. with price here in Germany of 750 eur, 550 eur extra for Acer seems steep. But with Acer there is higher refresh rate, better response time and gsync... I suppose it is worth 500+ additional euros. Just too expensive for me as I would want 980 ti with this monitor. 2k eur just for graphic card and monitor... damn. And to be honest, games on PC are just not that good or demanding to justify that price.

Sorry for rumbling here... I will shut up now.

Are there any other 34" ultrawides with Gsync?

Asus have a ROG one coming, but it will use same panel as the Acer and likely be more expensive, making an already too expensive monitor available only to the rich.

The Asus was specced to be "only" 60 Hz compared to the Acer's 75 FWIW.

Yeah I read that, but I think it'll be the same as the Acer. Nothing official yet, but it would be very strange not. After all, it WILL essentially be the same panel, as the one Acer is using is the same as in the curved Dell/LG monitor, just overclocked. If it ends up being 60Hz, it will be because they're not allowed to overclock it or something of that nature.

Agreed. Just read through tft's new review that just got put up about a week ago and it sounds like this is the same panel as the dell's and lg's. Differences being G-sync, oc'ed slightly (15hz), and lower lag. The response times were slightly better but honestly, too close and essentially a negligible difference.

So gsync and lower lag for what could be a $600 usd difference (the dell panel has been consistently hitting $800 on sale regularly). Seems pretty steep indeed, but we'll have to wait and see I guess.

I still don't get it.

Do people try and plug Xboxes or Playstations into these things?

You buy a monitor with g-sync, it stands to reason (to me), the only thing you will ever plug into it will be a Nvidia card via DP, because that is, after all, why you bought a g-sync monitor in the first place.

People simply want to use one display with several sources, like in my case: PC as primary device and console as option for playstation exclusives. Simple as that.

It IS the same panel as the LG/Dell, simply overclocked as you say, and with a G-Sync module slapped on. The problem is, although it seems obvious to you and me and most people on this forum who actually like to research a product before we buy it, your average consumer won't and will be utterly clueless as to the progeny of this monitor. Happens all the time in the tech world of course, so Acer are hardly unique, but what gets me is the price they have the nerve to charge, and the performance/value ratio here is atrocious.

That said, I am not saying it will be a bad monitor... assuming no bleed or glow issues, which MANY of these panels were maligned with on the LG/Dell btw... but it is NOT worth this price tag. Furthermore, when you read the horror stories of the Acer XB270HU IPS and the nightmare of dealing with Acer CS, you'd better hope you get a good panel or you'll have paid over $1000 for a whole world of hurt!!

yea i agree, i currently own 34UM95-P and my next upgrade will be 3440x1440 Gsync 144hz monitor :D

Can the LG/Dell be overclocked? I am on the fence here, questioning how much a few hz and Gsync are really worth?

I want smooth play in first person shooters. Right now frame rates are not smooth for me, even when they are hovering at 60.

I'd read people trying and failing. I imagine it's a bit more complicated than just clicking a few things with your mouse... they may even have to cherry pick the panels that will let them get up to 75Hz. No one can say if that extra 15Hz will do it for you... some people are happy at 60 after all, but if you're already not happy there, I dount 75 will solve all your problems... but then remember the added G-Sync will help.

Ultimately, if you want silky smooth high FPS, you have to go for a 120/144Hz G-Sync 1440p monitor... IPS if you want the best colour performance, or TN if you're not fussed. It will be at least a year before we see a 21:9 1440p panel capable of that... and there's no question that will be more expensive than the Acer is today! Plus factor in you'll need a new GPU (with DP 1.3) to run it. Start saving lol! ;)

Tried o/c mines to 75hz (Dell) and got frame skipping bad image quality. I've some were able to do it fine. Not all can OC so luck of the draw...

I hate when things aren't cut and dry. So since this monitor is turning out to be way overpriced, what is the "best" 34" curved that a person should buy instead?

The one that's available in the future, so find yourself a time machine and go get that one.

It depends what you want from a monitor... if it's more for gaming, this is probably the best you'll get. They all use the same panel anyway, this one is just overclocked, and has G-Sync (the only one that does, until Asus release their ROG version, but that's going to be the same panel and probably more expensive anyway).

But if gaming is your main interest, then for all around smoothness and high FPS, you're best off with a 16:9 1440p G-Sync/Freesync... OR if 1080 is all you need, then maybe you should check out the BenQ XR3501.

Ain't that the truth. I've been happily using a 32" 1080p TV as my monitor for yearsand am ready for an upgrade.

Starting to think I'm buying too much into the "monitorphile" stuff going on in this thread. For a normal person, I think any of this monitors would be great. It's kind of like when I bought my speakers. I read dozens of threads on how you needed studio monitors, amps, etc. to get great sound. Bought some Logitechs and use onboard sound. Perfect to me.

I may just grab a Dell 34" and call it a day.

Given Scan don't list the refresh rate there, I'm assuming this info hasn't even been given to them by Acer. I'll be impressed if they squeeze 100Hz out of it, but 75 seems more likely. If it features ULMB though, it makes no sense as that needs at least 85Hz, so maybe ULMB won't even feature at all (it's not mentioned in those specs anyway). There is no way Acer don't know this information... if the monitor will be available in just over a month then it's well under production now, with specs locked down, so the fact they're not releasing them doesn't bode well.

Also, if they're building this in the same factory and using the same team as they did on the XB270HU... uh oh.

:(

Pardon me for injecting this but I don't see a thread for it and I don't know how it relates to this:

What's the story on this Acer Predator z35 that I've seen stray mentions of?

It's a 1080p VA panel as far as I'm aware, same one as in the BenQ XR3501.

Acer confirmed 100hz with GSync.

As for panels, companies share panels all the time. It's very common in the TV and monitor space. The circuitry driving the panels, the software and other pieces are as critical. Having the same panel doesn't mean you get the same performance for better or for worse.

Unless there are some real issues with it, this will ceratinly replace my 3008wfp. 100hz is plenty for me and ultra wide gaming will be a nice compromise to having 144hz. That giant predator logo is absolutely disgusting though. Why do companies have to go and do this stuff?

Also confirmed by TFTCentral....will be interesting to know how the G-sync model is able to overclock the panel to 100hz.

Excellent news, other than the release date. Game over for me, I am definitely getting this.

Of all the things to be sucky, the buttons and OSD are the ones I would choose. Besides turning it on and the initial calibration with the OSD, I never touch it.
