I converted to WASD

W - Forward
S - Backward
A - Left
D - Right
Ctrl - Crouch
Shift - Run
E - Open
R - Reload
F - Melee
G - Grenade
T - Chat

ESDF reminds me of the Dvorak keyboard layout, and how the makers feel its superior, IF ONLY EVERYONE USED IT!

i arr-owed it with EQ and CS back in the day. Gotta love old times. it seemed fine, but lack of buttons ended up making me switch. dang you EQ

I'm a lefty, so I rebind EVERYTHING for EVERY game. Used to it now, so it's no big thing. Often I have to use programs like AutoHotKey when developers get neglectful. 'Back in the day' I used a joystick and mouse, lol. I came to shooters from the space sim genre (X-wing to Dark Forces). I had to force myself to learn the keyboard and the Numpad is the only thing that remotely works for lefties.

The upside is I've got a AutoHotKey template I've shared with several other lefties for when games like Dead Space and Witcher come to PC locked for default right handers.

I'm right handed but I can use the mouse almost as good with my left hand. When I do something that involves a lot of clicking at work I usually switch hands from time to time. But I haven't tried gaming with my left hand yet.

Still using right mouse to move forward, still wrecking face.

Steam refund is now here for any game that doesnt let me rebind keys in 2015.

ESDF > WASD > ⇧ ⇦ ⇩ ⇨

My mouse has a button that I programmed to do a 180° turn, comes in handy in FPS games like CS and BF.

IMO if you are taking the time to relearn WASD you might as well move to ESDF or RDFG if you plan to stick with all NKRO keyboards all the time.

Arrow keys plus mouse 4 lyfe

Since I have terrible muscle memory I need space between keys or I'll hit the wrong ones. Wasd is too packed together for me, so the extra dead space is good

with you on that, arrow keys + all buttons around them for life, been using arrow keys since Wolf 3D to used to them to change lol, I do have a G13 That i have never used but want to maybe lol

That's it I'm going to try ESDF. I am a slave of muscle memory. A month after I make a new password I forget 90% of the password. The rest is muscle memory. I'm good so long as I don't need to remember my password for touch screens. Even different keyboards at work throw me off.

I use a G13 for my FPS games, it's more comfortable for me

On a different note, how well does that cutting mat work for a mouse pad? And how hard was the transition from WASD/ESDF to the G13?

1999-2005

arrow keys in right hand, strafed with shift and enter for ~ 3 years, left and right arrow were handy everytime i ran out of "mouse space" lol

intellimouse explorer 3.0 in the left one

sensitivity 7+ - OS mouse accel on - 20-50fps ( it felt good to me as long i didn't see any stuttering lol )

no i was not a lefty, just a stubborn teen with a lot of time on his hands :p - goddamn N64 controller

I really got into UT2k4 and saw that all the "best" players had each weapon bound to individual keys and many of them used ESDF to make that easier. Since then, every new game for me requires a rebind session to use ESDF but I have no regrets. It's the same place my hand rests when I'm typing and I can always find my place with the little F-nub when things get crazy.

Arrows and a mouse with a bunch of buttons for life :p
I like having my functions separate from one another instead of hiding in a bunch of other keys.
Plus, if I need more than 15 keys (and another 8+ on my mouse) readily available then fuck that game and the people that made it.

I got this puppy and it's still working:

I use it on the right side and trackball on the left.
Works great. I hope it never breaks - but it will as all thing will .. eventually .. including me :(

I think you didn't give ESDF enough time to adjust to.

Lol, after arrow keys, i started using ESDF. I think it was because of the first rainbow 6 and all the different keys you needed for actions.

Back in the Counterstrike Beta years, I switched to WASD and never looked back. :D

IMO the advantage to WASD is a couple. 1 some people may have small hands making it difficult to reach. If this is the case and you also happen to use crappy keyboards like many that ship on laptops you may find yourself forced to use WASD as key rollover is often better there due to proximity to alt keys like shift and control.

The other advantage is just that most games ship with WASD configs so having to change your keys almost all keys for every game is annoying.

But other than that ESDF is almost always better especially if your hands are big enough to reach shift and control as you will get the key rollover and an extra row for whatever you desire.

For those criticizing EDSF for being too difficult in reaching the CTRL key with the pinky finger - none of y'all have used much emacs have you? :D

(Full disclosure - I use vim, and still I suffer from emacs-pinky. :( )
