Sounds good. But another paper launch? Really? Fury X 24th, but no Fury till middle of July, and Nano really in end of summer/autumn. Sounds like the rumored supply issue really is true. Coming Soon! lol

Uhh I see lots of 4GB GTX 980's for $520, so what's your issue with the 390X?? From the supposed fresh leaks it's pretty much identical performance and you get the extra GDDR5 just in case.

Consider 390X/390 have 8GB of VRAM, and the price makes more sense.

If presenting a product and when it will be available in stores is a paper launch then I am a banana.

Lets just hope AMD offerings are good and they make some money on them. Knowing how cheap ass there fan base is I doubt there is much money in it for AMD. They can't have a lot of margin in there products with the announced pricing if they are indeed Titan, 980Ti and 980 killers.

I'd be curious to know what they had originally hoped/planned to price the Fury X at, since 980 Ti forced it down to $649

Dog eat dog world, that's why we all love this shit. It's great times to be an enthusist

prices seem good but mean diddly squat without benches

I have a good feeling that amd is really going to well this time....Sure we would all love it to have 8gbs of ram but its far from needed...and all the leaks so far show just that and seem very believable

In the old days it wasn't uncommon to see launches 6 months ahead of shipping--I've seen nVidia take even longer than that...;) In the old days it was a rule--announce first, ship later. I liked it because you always knew what was coming down the pike and made better purchasing decisions, imo. I really don't understand the rush some folks are in--impatience is not a virtue...;)

Is there a new definition to paper launch that I'm not aware of?

This makes my head hurt. Where is the Fury Pro in this line up that was rumored to cost about $549? The chart above is from AMDs website so does the Fury Pro not exist? Or did they forget to put it on the chart? Maybe they were too busy finding synonyms to Revolutionary to get it on the website in time.

I believe the consensus is that there is no Fury Pro. Instead, we have Fury X with and without water cooling. Supposedly the air cooled versions will be launched in July and be a bit cheaper.

They never said Fury Pro, just Fury X $649 June 24th and Fury $549 July 16th. Fury X was heavily implied only ever water cooled.

Then they talked about the Fury Nano, no price and later this summer.

With a bit of assuming, perhaps X is the denominator to mean water cooled, and Fury is just plain air cooled, but both are Fiji XT? Perhaps Nano is Fiji Pro or whatever?

This is what I think as well...

$??? Fury Maxx = 2x Fiji Pro
$649 Fury X = Fiji XT (Water)
$549 Fury = Fiji XT (Air)
$??? Fury Nano = Fiji Pro

Im expecting GTX-killing prices of $999 and $499 on Maxx and Nano...

No it was flat out stated that Fury X would be air cooled as well. Wait maybe not I can't remember if the X was part of what was said I'd have to find it again, too hard. Carry on.

So how fast is Fury?

If you believe the "leaked" charts that are circling around right now, Fury X is just ahead of Titan X and Fury is on par with a 980ti. None of these are official by any means, so take it with a grain of salt.

Well as I remember it, it was stated opposite of how you remember.

So one of us is right.

High end Fury X cards might be out of my reach. But I am imporessed with R9 Nano, where AMD claimed that its performance will be greater than the Radeon R9 290X but consumes less than half the power.

So should we presume, that this nano card should easily outclass GTX 980 with

1) Performance <= GTX 980
2) Less power consumption than GTX980 and
3) Less price than GTX980

Wouldn't Fury's 4GB hold it back in high res gaming when compared to 390X's 8GB, despite having more processing power?

Feels like a mismatch to me, where you have the impressive performance on Fury GPU, but not the VRAM capacity to compliment it in situations where you'll actually need the extra performance such as 4K gaming.

It would depend on work load. If a specific work load does go past 4GB than yes the 390x would effectively be better if the performance requirement is still within its capabilities.

The 4GB VRAM on Fiji basically comes down to practical limitations. It likely was not practical to implement a 8GB Fiji (given cost, time to market, etc.) 8GB on Hawa... err Grenada :rolleyes:is trivial to implement as GDDR5 chips have doubled in bit density. So you can tack on comparatively trivial costs to translate into higher margins.

I'm going to bet that they think that insane bandwidth will remove the need for more V-Ram.

Will it prove such a case? Time will tell when review sites actually get their copies.

What will be bad however, is if AMD Totes that HBM is the "Revolutionary" Product.. and it turns out to be no better than GDDR5 in terms of performance. nVidia has had access to HBM, their has got to be a reason why they have stuck with GDDR5.

HBM IS a revolutionary product.
We already KNOW it is significantly better than GDDR5.

Really? Where? Because last we all heard Fury was slower than the 980 Ti.. and it was but a few weeks away from being finished "Tweaking". Provide proof that HBM is superior in performance to GDDR5. You wont find any proof out their yet because it doesn't exist and is all speculation.

It's the equivalent of the hype of the new Honda Civic Type R that is supposedly faster than a Lamborghini but their is no proof of such. Yet if you ask all Honda nut jobs they say it will be the best car ever.

What good is increased bandwidth if it amounts to nothing in terms of performance which is what we are all waiting for.

White papers are proof.
Memory technology and bandwidth isn't the only variable in deciding GPU performance, though it is a main component.

The fact that HBM is significantly better than GDDR5 cannot be disputed.

We have been stalled at 28nm approaching on 4 years now. Next year, or so, with 16/14Finfet you will see the leap you are wanting.
