dual monitor puts stress on CPU

I have a fairly relevant GPU, nVidia 750ti

My CPU is pretty old, a [email protected]. But I was still surprised when I was running 2 monitors with 2 videos and it was lagging. For example I was watching a 2k video on one, and some gifs on another, and it would lag immensely,

CPU is definitely old, but does that sound reasonable? I always thought most of the computation would be done on the GPU. Would anybody enlighten me on how dual monitors video playback work?

What are you "viewing" these videos in (YouTube, Twitch etc)? Which browser are you using (name and build version, go to "Help" and "About")..

How much ram does the system have? Do you have GPU-Z? If not, DL it and report what the GPU usage is while watching a video..It sounds to me like Hardware Acceleration isn't being used to be honest.

Report back with the requested information and we will see what we can do.
 
It's probably a Flash related issue.

Flash will lag on a Haswell machine (i.e. games will stutter with Twitch in the background).
 
Sorry guys, I haven't been able to respond as quickly.

But, I've been viewing these videos on youtube. One will be youtube, and the other may be from another embedded streaming player, or a quick gif, and such. This is running on the latest chrome browser, I'm on a different computer right now so I don't have the exact version number, but it is up to date.

Yes, I have used the task manager and GPU-Z. That was my first investigation and found out that the CPU would be on max load, typically on chrome, because thats where the videos are playing. On GPU-Z I would hardly get any stress on them, very minimal (I'd say <20% but i'd have to double check that tonight).

I have 6gb of DDR2 ram. Yes, this is DDR2, not DDR3 :p

Are youtube videos flash? I thought they were html or something, so I didn't suspect flash. But please enlighten me!
 
enable hardware acceleration in chrome... that's all.. it will start to use the GPU instead the CPU. you probably are also lagging if you are using CPU as accelerator without Dual Channel ram..
 
@Araxie, interesting suggestion! Turns out chrome already had the 'enable hardware acceleration' already on. I turned it off, reset, and got it back on. (a little IT trick :D), but no improvements.

I played 1080p and 1440p videos on both my monitors, tested it out on chrome and FF. Turns out, it looks like a chrome problem because there is definitely less CPU stress on FF. Maybe because my FF is pretty bare, hardly any add ons and such. Any suggestions on why this happens, and if its fixable? Chrome use to be so good :(

Oddly enough, the CPU load dips down every once in awhile for a few seconds

Sounds like you've discovered that Chrome is a piece of shit.
 
@d50man, LOL you'd be surprised how quiet it actually is. At 100% on full load it never passes 60C
