ASUS PG279Q 144hz 1440P IPS G-Sync

Sounds really nice, but I will be very catious personally. IPS does not automaticly mean better then TN. I'm just wondering what a IPS Swift would offer to me, if I don't care about viewing angles. They can still screw up the coating, but I have a feeling they will go for a less obstrusive/agressive coating this time around. Other then that, I'm not interested in realistic colours, I prefer unrealistic but bright colours, wich the Swift does very well. Then there is the IPS glow, wich ruins the black uniformity of the screen. The current Swift has incredible black uniformity, especially on my last october unit, one of the best I've ever seen.
As a gamer, I was not even slightly interested in the Acer IPS, I don't do artwork nor do I watch movies. I only play games.
I'm just being cautious, but hopefully we'l be surprised the coming days with what Asus has in store for us. If someone else can convince me to be more optimistic, i'd like to hear your opinion why an IPS Swift would be better, for gaming.

It probably uses the same panel as the XB270HU which by all accounts has a superior and less aggressive AG coating compared to the PB278Q.

Still waiting on that 23"-24" 1080p version. I'm just not into monitors this big.

It does for me, easily, although IPS isn't perfect or a guarantee, either.

If you like TN and are used to it? More power to you.

In my case, I'm extremely used to IPS and VA and to come from that to a TN was something I just couldn't tolerate. I tried it. TN is just not an option for me.

I'm disappointed that so far all I see for the rest of the year in this venue is the same handful of brands doing mostly refreshes.

I'm also not happy with the "pick AMD or Nvidia and buy a monitor married to that brand" concept I'm seeing show up, either.

I would feel better about it if I had seen better QC and QA from both Asus and Acer this past year on the current monitors.

All told, I'll still be keeping tabs to see how this monitor fares.

ROFL
TN vs IPS

with current technology no one should be going TN unless you are dirt poor and can not afford a good IPS screen. .
I take it you really dont care about visual accuracy of a picture TN was great back in the day for fast response times but not anymore. Even regular televisions like my el cheapo 50" vizio 4k "paid about 400.00 bucks on a walmart refurb" anyway this TV has IPS with LED and blacks look superb and almost match my F8500 64" plasma. Does 1080p 120hz and 4k 60hz on my desktop pc

PS4 is smooth as butter on it too.

TN panels are great mass producing panels that belong on the shelf of office max, walmart, bestbuy, staples etc. They are going the way of the dinosaur.
These companies need to start amping up OLED PC monitors and just only sell IPS.
BUt they want to milk the consumer to the bitter end

Since they will both use the same AUOptronics panel, I would tend to agree. The AR film on the Acer Predator is far superior than that on the TN Swift.

Asus was smoking crack when they put that garbage film on that display.

I dunno. i get the feeling they'll use a different panel.and it'll be better than the acer. nice effort by acer though.

I'm just hoping this monitor won't have QC issues like the other recent 144-Hz.

Yeah man that buttery smooth 30 frames per second. Really shows off what your monitor can do.

He's probably talking about his TV. Most modern tv's have decent interpolation processing which can make a PS4 look much smoother than any 144hz screen.

Been waiting forever. Welcome to the club.

Motion interpolation doesn't work all that well (produces weird artifacts and stuttering at random times) and adds an enormous amount of input lag.

Acer and Asus don't make their own panels. They source them from panel OEM's which there are only a few. The only 144 Hz 1440p IPS panel is the one made by AUOptronics.

I'm going to wait for reviews on the PG279Q to come out. I know the panel is the same but if the build quality on the Asus is better then I'm going with that.

Your wrong some games
Ps4 does 60 fps

Try again

G-Sync is technically better than Freesync. So if you want the best you know where to go.

That and I'll take Nvidia's drivers and SLI (if needed) every day of the week over AMD's drivers and Crossfire. Oh and then there's that silly TDP gap too ;).

If perhaps I'm not up to ponying up for the 34" 21:9 1440p 75Hz curved G-Sync monitors, I may step down to the 27" versions, which will likely average somewhere around half the price.

Hard to step down from gaming on a 1600p 30" though!

looks like the same bezel/housing as the PG278Q, which is a good thing.

Yeah, the case of the XB270HU is a major turn off for me. Haven't gotten one till now because I will only buy locally given the quality control issues, so I might as well wait for the Asus equivalent which are sold by nearby retailers.

I wonder if ASUS would do a trade-in... I'd even pay the difference from the depreciated value of my PG278Q if they offered a step-up... side-step?

Nope your wrong
Try again
The irony is palpable.

ITT like many other threads here: People wanting prosumer/professional grade quality control/uniformity on monitors for at a non-prosumer/professional price.

The market is just too small for a high quality control professional quality gaming monitor to be made.

My next monitor. =)

Tried a Dell 21:9 3440-x1440. Just couldn't justify the expense and sent it back even though I liked it quite a bit.

The news of this monitor makes me happy I did so.

been waiting almost 4 months for this monitor to be released what is the hold up

i do not understand why acer was able to release a IPS 144 hz gsync monitor before everyone else

What the heck are these monitor manufactures thinking????

Does not make any sense

paper work, who gets what and how much, things need to be approved, signed, etc, it is a long long process.
