Suffice to say, if it only were "on you" for pre-ordering a game, then no one would care. It affects everyone involved with the game, from the players all the way down to the developers. The only party that ever consistently benefits is the publisher. When you take the side in an issue that benefits publishers at the expense of developers and your fellow players, you're apathetic at best and a troll/shill at worst.
Let's play devil's advocate here. What if lack of preorders to the business team signals a lack of demand for the game? Why sink more resources into it and get it right if it appears no one is even interested?
On the flip side, if there are a ton of preorders, you know there is high demand for the game. You know you will likely make a profit on it, and you need to satisfy the wants of your customers, so perhaps you spend a bit more time polishing, or you don't rush the release.
