Fallout 4 Official Trailer

Fallout 3 is what you need, and maybe the DLC's for it. Fallout: New Vegas was okay, but not as good as FO:3 IMHO. I never played 1 or 2...weren't they side scrollers or something like that?

I believe they were top-down games.

BURN THE HERETICS!

seriously though, FO3's story and "choices" were bullshit. NV was much better, in that it was grey to grey. just like the originals. which were isometric turn-based RPGs btw.

anyway, ALL ABOARD THE HYPE TRAIN!

I too skipped the series but all this talk has got me pretty excited, so excited that I decided to check out FO 3 on steam. Unfortunately it says that it won't work on Win 7. After doing some Google searches it appears that there are some fixes, however most of the fixes are pretty outdated. Does this run on Win 7? I would hate to plop down $20 only to not see the game function.

IIRC, you have to make some quick edits of an ini file(s), then it typically works pretty good. I still play FO3 on my Win7 64bit systems. Just save often, because of random CTD's...and I do mean SAVE OFTEN. The random CTD's have been a FO3 feature since the game was released and will happen regardless of what OS you run it on. Gameplay is worth it, imo. Keep an eye out for Steam sales - it's not uncommon to be able to get the GoTY edition and the complete NV pack (all DLC) for under $10-15 each.

Yes it does. Only problem is that Beth screwed up something in the audio portion and never really fixed it. The Radio on your pipboy is glitchy and stuttering whenever there is music playing. People with Creative soundcards could fix it with Alchemy and toying with values. Rest have to install K-Lite codec packs audio section and it still glitches from time to time though going to ESC menu fixes it when it happens.

The whole thing is stupid though, why would a game be dependable in codecs?

Difference being that Fallout isn't lying. Nice try though.

Absolutely. It's the open world,non-linear gameplay that makes the Fallout series so superior to the stale old run 'n gun shooters that have flooded the market. It's second only to the STALKER games as my favorite franchise.

Yea so grey and so much better...that in the end nothing really mattered much...you either let an insane robot with an army of robots stay in power...or you let an insane billionaire with an army of robots stay in power....or you put a corrupt foreign power in charge...And that was basically the MQ of the game.

Oh yea and all while staring at nothing but barren orange desert that was so....barren...and so...orange.

Yea. nuked DC was a better setting 1000X over visually and in terms of variety.

New Vegas is a better game but the world never gripped me. The game felt more like a western than post apocalyptic RPG. Fallout 3 got the humanity desperately struggling to survive atmosphere better than New Vegas IMHO.

But NV was so barren and so orange! It has to be better!

Maybe I'm weird but I thought the story and setting in New Vegas was lame. I didn't find it nearly as enjoyable as FO3.

Man i was sooooo excited until the video started... gamebryo really?
Come on, obviously this was made for last gen, so disappointed.
Yeah, i will pre-order... bastards :p

well, if you prefer corridor-style dc ruins and corridor-style subway tunnels, where your choices do not matter at all, i'm not holding it against you.
but, in the end, where you had two characters, immune to radiation, just refusing to go into the machine, because "destiny"...no. that's bullshit. bullshit and lazy.

I agree. New Vegas had more depth, choices and all but Fallout 3 everything was more personal. In New Vegas you are nobody really set of to big orange desert with only reason to care because some jackass shot you. And you can get your revenge quite fast if you want.

Plus, i cannot wait to make some mods. I wonder what changes they will make to the creation kit!

Fallout 1 & 2 are games I still can play at any time and be fully engrossed for an hour or two. FO4 will be a rare pre-order buy for me.

Play 'em all. New Vegas had its strengths as well. I'd argue it had better writing and story in it. I liked it more than FO3 although I thought FO3 had the better location. They come together nicely.

Yes, NV is widely regarded as having a better story/characters and writing all around (because it's what Obsidian excels at) but I also preferred the setting of F3 over NV setting.

It would have been nice if Bethseda co-developed this with Obsidian handling story/writing elements.

Though after the whole NV metacritic bonus thing (they got shafted on royalties for it because it missed the goal of 85%, it got an 84% total instead) I do not know if they are still on good terms with each other.

I don't give a shit this whole no preorder movement.

When people say junk like this, I question if they even buy games to begin with. The reasons not to preorder mean nothing if you don't pay for your games games anyway, and if you do pay for games you have everything to gain by holding your money until receiving a great product.

Perhaps you should play it a little closer to the chest?

For anyone still asking if this is any good: just consider that despite the constant bugs/crashes and stupidly dated graphics engine (they're real), many of us FO1/2/3/NV veterans plan to buy this day one anyway. RL is overrated.

(now where were those cherry bombs?)

I think 1 was a side scroller, two was top down similar to early Diablo, 3 is first person with about three add-ons to give it some good legs.

That being said, I reinstalled Vegas the other day and I don't know. I seemed clunky, the movement and all. It just didn't feel as good replaying it now as I remembered it to be. I never enjoyed Vegas like I did 3 anyway. Still, I will probably grab Fallout 4 on release without any waiting and watching. I figure the movement and all will at least be as good as Skyrim was so...

The problem I remembered with NV was that it seems "stove-piped", the main storyline was too central. It seemed like I got stuck so I dumped it.

I question why the method by which someone buys a video game matters so much to so many. I'd think you have more important things to worry about in your life.

Why do you give a shit how I spend my money? If I want to preorder a game then I'm going to preorder a game. If I chance my mind I can do so and get all my money back. If the game sucks then its on me for buying it.

Though I don't really do the computer gaming thing much, I'll prolly buy a copy of FO4 despite the anticipated bugs and limited cast of voice actors only possible in a Bethesda game just because what person in their right mind doesn't think post apocalypse stuff is fun? In my case, it'll be like a few years after its released so I can junk out on it with a super cheap computer...

As for FO3's buggies from the lame game engine...

IIRC, you have to make some quick edits of an ini file(s), then it typically works pretty good. I still play FO3 on my Win7 64bit systems. ...there's A Tale of Two Wastelands which is a project that lets you grab all the esm files from FO3 and run them in FONV's less crashy/buggy game engine. I haven't tried it, but if you own both on Steam and don't mind it breaking some mods, it's worth checking out. It even links the two storylines together from what I read on the site of the people making it and there are some TTW-friendly mods out there already. It might keep someone busy while they're waiting for Bethesda to release another bug-infested, dysfunctional game that even people like me are gonna buy and play to death anyhow.

That said, I personally liked FO3 for it's overall feel and the setting. I think it really captured the whole post-nuke struggling in an urban wasteland. NV struck me as a little too cowboy-ish, but like a lot of people, I thought the storyline wasn't bad and it's kinda grown on me a little bit, plus the game just felt smoother and better made. I've tried Fallout 2 also (there's some patching stuff that makes it happy on Win7 as it was released like a million years before I was born) and NV is a lot closer to it in general. FO3 was a bigger departure from the older games.

There...that's as excited as I can get about a game. Count me as a 3+ years after release, discounted GOTY+DLC Steam Extreme Sale buyer (which is huge for me). :D

This is embarrassing. I have never played any of the fall outs....but I really loved this trailer and want to get it. Will I be totally lost if I don't play the 1st 3? I don't have the time to put in games as I once did...kids and all.

You could start at FallOut 3 and not be lost. It's pretty much self contained and a fantastic game.

I look forward to this. I won't pre purchase though. Been burned to many times. Plus as others have mentioned, FO 3 and NV were a tad buggy initially. Better then some titles that have come out over the years.
I really liked FO3, NV was ok. Some of the DLC's were ok. I think I logged more hours on FO 3.

I guess if it comes out on Steam, I may consider purchase on release, now that they have the money back deal. Otherwise, I will wait till it's in the bargain bin. By then, there should be plenty of bug fixes, reviews, patches, updates and DLC's if it does initially suck.

I've actually never played any of this, which is funny cause I have played and love Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, and all the STALKER games.

I think really it was the gunplay. I saw my buddy playing FO3 on his 360, and the VATS system just looked dumb, and apparently you had miss chance and shit when not using it or something.

Hopefully it's got STALKER style gunplay in FO4. Or have I been misled?

lol, This is a self absorbed, clueless, entitled individual.

He doesn't get that he isn't alone in this world. That his bone headed decisions effect others. that buy being bone headed that he encourages bad behavior on the part of greedy developers, that by letting them get away with delivering crap cause people are willing to pay for goods before they are proven worthy of purchase.

Don't tell me what I can or can't do with my money . blah blah blah, stupid !

I'm just guessing, but I think this is what he was getting at :D

Because it's more than that. When you preorder a game you actively disincentivize releasing post release patches. If they already have your money, why support the game? And if you think gamers actually care about that stuff, why do they keep buying Battlefield games? Preorders also incentivize DLC over day one product. The more money you have invested early, the more likely you are to buy DLC. Which means in the long run we all spend more for less.
Finally, preorders are becoming a metric for devs' performance under their publishers. If a game does not get enough preorders, it's less likely to get a sequel. And we all wonder where the crazy discrepancies between E3 trailers and release gameply graphics come from... (ahem, Watch Dogs)

Buying preorders screws games, it screws gamers, and it screws devs.

This. Got several hours into both NV and FO3 and couldn't continue. Well, in FO3 it's because my save got corrupted and no way in hell was I going back. But going back in to try NV, I couldn't feel immersed or enjoy it because the combat was so clunky.

The VATS is just an assistance, you don't have to use it. But combat in Gamebyro has always been pretty lacking. Hits dont feel like they connect and my bullets look like they're made of rubber. Definitely not STALKER quality gunplay but its passable.

The arguments have already been made by people far more eloquent than myself, and you've surely read them already. If you actually are spending your money (a claim I again question) then you already know why I care.

Suffice to say, if it only were "on you" for pre-ordering a game, then no one would care. It affects everyone involved with the game, from the players all the way down to the developers. The only party that ever consistently benefits is the publisher. When you take the side in an issue that benefits publishers at the expense of developers and your fellow players, you're apathetic at best and a troll/shill at worst.

ahh what?! no wii u release plans? :p

I'll get it out of the way: I really wish Bethesda would long since abandon Gamebryo. I don't get their fetish for it and especially this far out.

The game doesn't look "next gen" per se but it's going to deliver the goods and I'm stoked for it. Likely as not, this and Witcher 3 are going to be tied locks for my personal GOTY.

im with ya. excited as hell for the game, but i know in order to get more of that next-gen look, mods will be necessary.

im just scared of all the potential bugs. fallout3 on PC was easily the buggiest game ive ever played. it cleaned up kinda nicely over a considerable amount of time, but my god, that launch version...
