With Hidetaka Miyazaki as director.

Namco will announce Dark Souls 3 at E3, a source familiar with the matter has told VG247.

In news guaranteed to delight fans of the series, Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls and Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki is again heading the team.

Miyazaki, the father of the Souls series, moved onto a supervisory role for Dark Souls 2. Tomohiro Shibuya and Yui Tanimura co-directed the sequel.

The platform to be used for the announcement is as yet unknown, but our source guessed the title may come during Sony’s E3 press conference on the Californian evening of Monday, June 15.

We received no specific details of the game itself.

Dark Souls 2 settled two points higher on Metacritic than the original, but some fans and reviewers disparaged the sequel over the fairness of its approach to Souls’ trademark ultra-hard difficulty level.

Series-watchers may be shocked at the announcement’s timing: Sony dev boss Shuhei Yoshida confirmed in late May that Bloodborne is to be expanded, and that more details will be announced “later this year”.

E3 takes place in Los Angeles on the week commencing June 15. We’ve reached out to Namco for comment.

I hope they include some decent PC controls this time. I can't stand controllers as the hurt my hands so bad.

Given the reception Bloodbourne has gotten I'd honestly rather have Miyazaki lead a multi-platforn game with that style of gameplay. I want to play the game so badly but I don't want to buy a PS4 for just one game.

Really? The reviews I read all seemed to think Bloodbourne was great. Even Yahtzee from Zero Punctuation liked it and insulting games is his thing.

Yes that's why I said I want a multi-platform game that is like Bloodbourne. I had to stop watching Let's Plays on Youtube because they would lead to me buying a PS4 just to play it.

Works for me. I'd be equally happy with DS3 or a Bloodborne sequel. Just as long as there's a PC version.

Not sure what to think, I am happy to hear more DS games, but at the same time, I am not so sure I should want to buy it or wait for the inevitable "enhanced" version that they'll try to sell me again. If you think about it, this will be the last time they will be able to do that for a while. They'll sell you the DX11 version then charge you for the DX12 "enhanced" version with repositioned enemies and a recompiled executable.

You make it sound like they planned two versions all along just to nickle and dime everyone . They didn't. PS4 and Xbone versions later in the game's cycle is what prompted then to update the PC version too. Like many games that started on ps3/360 but got a ps4/xbone version later on with a small update cost (the Metro games, etc) and PC came along for the remaster ride which they didn't have to do.

Regardless, it was excellent value for money no matter when you jumped in - it was excellent at launch, it was excellent when they released the DX11 update. The DLC's were also fantastic. The game is good for hundreds of hours.

I think they had PS4/X1 versions planned all along, which is fine. At the same time, I think the PC version should have been free for anyone with a DLC season-pass. I feel that was a dick move.

I really hope it's not like Bloodborne in terms of the rpg side/combat.

I do not get how some poeple just blindly say DS2 sucked and Bloodborne was the better in every way.

Bloodborne had FAR less variety in terms of character builds and styles of play, they took away any defensive style of play, they took out weight playing a huge role.

Part of the fun of the Dark Souls game was finding a playstyle that worked for you, wearing heavier armor an dbeing slow moving with huge wepaons, or being a nimble guy with light armor and weapons. Did you play aggressive? Defensive? Use a shield? IT was all up to you.

Bloodborne on the other hand took ALL of that away, everyone was forced to play the "Same" basic type of character and the variety in character building was largely affected by that.

Then you have the loss of "boss" souls/weapons, the loot and variety was far far less then that compared to DS2, there was no more boss souls or things to find and turn into epic weapons and NG+ ? Didn't even really have anything new to it, unlike DS2 where it actually offered a lot of new content and secrets unavailable to the first run.

I just hope they don't blindly follow in Bloodborne's footsteps and actually keep the things that made (imo) Dark Souls "Better" in those regards.

I do however hope they keep some of the ideas with Bloodborne, the weapon "morphs," the clothing styles, physics, etc.

I enjoyed Bloodborne but I do not get how people can say it was the better "game" then Dark Souls when they took away so much that made it fun , to me at least.

No I don't think they planned it, but I do think they now know that they can get away with it. And just like all publishers, I trust them to take advantage of that discovery in one way or another.

Funny you mention the Metro series, one of them I agree had a valid reason to charge a fee for, but the Last Light Redux was a pure rip off and it was their $25 horse armor equivalent.

I don't know if they were planned all along, seeing as Dark Souls 2 development began before Xbone/PS4 even existed.

Regardless, it still took man hours to re-do the PC version with DX11. So I'd rather have the option to buy it than had they not bothered at all because there was no financial incentive to do so.

yes!!...yes!!...praise the sun...may the good blood guide us...and Hidetaka Miyazaki is back!!...I wonder what aspects of Bloodborne will be incorporated into DS3?

Hopefully something like the Chalice Dungeons or a Boss Rush.
Oh, and many covenants. BB was a disappointment on that front. Tie the covenants to the dungeons in someway and I may never stop playing the game.

Bloodborne was excellent but I want my shields and armor back for DS3...and more weapons

HOLY SHIT

Dragons Dogma is way better then any of the Dark Souls games

I put dragons dogma right below dark souls as the best rpg last gen. Really though they play nothing alike. Dark souls is way more deliberate, dragons dogma more hack and slash.

Gematsu, additional points from the leak

The game is coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2016. PC is also listed, but is accompanied by the word “negotiable.” (marketing thing, dont read too much into it)
The game will support “1-4 players,” meaning it’s possible you can summon more than one friend or there might be a player-versus-player element.
10 playable classes, all available from the beginning of the game.
45 new enemies, 15 new bosses. Characters and monsters from previous games are not included in that count.
100 new weapons and 40 new armor sets with returning equipment not counted in that number.
60 minutes of cutscenes, mostly in engine, rather than pre-rendered.
There will be around 12 areas in the game.
Will change the way you interact with players online. You’ll now participate in “Sacrifice Ceremonies.” You can drag bodies around, choose where to sacrifice them, perform the ritual, and visit another player’s game. Doing this makes you a target for other players. These will also change your game, such as a sacrifice creating a bonfire at the location you choose to sacrifice the body.
Light sources and enemy layouts have been changed.
Boss battles have a new “Heat Up” factor that “completely change” boss battles based on undescribed factors.
The game will add “Sword Fighting Arts,” which including “Rush In” and “Circle.” The former is a sacrifice attack that allows you to dive into an opponent and take damage while delivering a huge hit, while the latter sounds like a dodge move.

Just give me:

- Dark Souls 2 levels of content, build variety, weapons and armor, bonfire travel
- Dark Souls 1 world interconnectivity + shortcut system
- Bloodbornes enemy combat AI (read: No crazy enemy hitboxes and enemy attack tracking a la DS2 and some of the bosses in DS1), weapon transformations
- much better netcode for PVP/invasions + possibly dedicated servers (not gonna happen)
- Bloodbornes Boss designs
- World variety a la Dark Souls 2, but a bit more focused
- PC version with unlimited FPS with game mechanics not tied to framerate (durability, rolling)
- get rid of AGL as a stat to increase invincibilty frames (iFrames)
- get rid of the ability to increase equipment load -- if you want to wear full Havels and a 300 pound UGS (that hits like a mack truck) you should not be able to fast roll, period. You can't have your defense, attack shielding, poise-stackin, anti-stagger and your fast-roll cake too.
- Stick with 4 ring slots
- Expand on powerstance and dual wielding from Dark Souls 2 <--- this is big. This could be a huge build variety game changer to the Souls series.
- Expand on Dark Souls 1 equip load roll,dashing iFrames, e.g. > 75% roll, > 50% fast roll, > 30% fast roll & dash, etc.
- Get rid of Soul Memory for COOP/PVP. Make it SL based, period.
- Expand on the ideas of Insight from BB but stay away from World Tendencies from Demons.

... I and will put in another 500 hours like I have done with each of the previous Souls games in the series.

weapon transformations

weapon transformations never really did anything for me in Bloodborne...they should eliminate that altogether and just give more dedicated weapons

so a new Souls game every year now?...Dark Souls 2 2014...Bloodborne 2015...Dark Souls 3 2016

Bloodborne really isn't a Souls game though. It has such little content and no magic and lacks any character builds for it to be consider a Souls game. And what about all the people that don't own a PS4 for BB?

This game will probably release in late 2016 so it will be about 2 years since Dark souls 2.

They release a Souls game every two years and have since Demons in 2009. But I get what your saying. I bought a PS4, again, for BB and I bought the SOTFS remaster so I am starting to feel that Soulsfatigue.

But by Fall 2016 my body will be ready!

if I was a game developer I'd want to be putting out new quality games every year, so kudos to them if they can swing it.

based on the leak info it seems like they are scaling back from the way they created DS2. The DLC in the game was really good but the game itself felt more like quantity vs quality. Most of the bose move sets were the same. no real shortcuts, just one zone after the other, and the zones were not really "connected"

it's not about Souls fatigue for me...I'm just worried that the quality will start to drop if they start pushing out a new game every year (CoD, Assassin's Creed etc)

The thing I wanna know is... are female player characters gonna have those terrible man-shoulders again?

Sony might snatch this away from the pc gamers

What's sony got to do with it?

The leak mentions that it's coming to both ps4 and xbone.

It sounds like its From who doesn't seem to want to do the pc version or is following in teh footsteps of Ubisoft and others who think that if you stagger the pc release date behind consoels people will rush out and buy it there and then double dip on pc later.

From isn't exactly a huge studio. If a delay means a decent port then so be it. I wish Ubisoft would delay ports by 6+ months again. The ports were better when they did.

Whether or not to do a PC version or focus on consoles exclusively is not necessarily up to FROM. Let's remember Bandai-Namco no longer publishes FROM games, and Dark Souls 2 was the last Bandai-Namco published game by FROM.

Kadokawa is the japanese publisher that now owns FROM, so they call the shots. So if it really turns out FROM doesn't do a PC version of DS3, then the change in publisher is your culprit, especially since japanese publishers and developers tend to only really understand console focused development. The whole PC gaming thing is kind of nonexistent there, outside of the no-lifer RTS's (LoL, Dota2, etc) .

I still prefer it to be released on PC but since I bought a PS4 for Bloodborne I wouldn't go nuts if they made it console only...maybe From Software realized that developing for PC is not something they are good at

The PC "negotiable" is a marketing/release date thing. It has nothing to do with if they are making a PC version or not. They are. They listed it as a platform. Don't read too much into it. We will see at e3.

It's most likely From looking at the console makers and saying "how much are you willing to pay us to keep this off the PC for # months?" Dark Souls has kind of become a really great game on all platforms and as much as I hate it, I can't fault them for trying to squeeze some money for exclusivity on consoles.

They're great games but really? They're not system sellers. They aren't Call of Duty. Sony doesn't give a shit about the PC and MS isn't going to bother paying off a studio to delay a multiplatform title that will likely sell a lot more on the PS4 anyway. MS makes stupid decisions sometimes but they're not THAT stupid. I love how people instantly jump to the most silly reasons completely ignoring the dozen or so more logical ones.
