New G Sync monitors incoming

Not that I plan on getting a new monitor at the moment, but I can't decide which of these is better; 1440p @ 144Hz, or 4k @ 60Hz.

I really want the ROG Swift but my current Dell IPS panel offers amazing colors so I can't downgrade on that aspect. Will have to wait for IPS ROG Swift then!

Nice to see an XB270HU competitor, Acer really needs to get forced off its ass with their quality control.

I wish Asus would work with AMD and keep the MG279Q in development until they have overdrive working and the full range of hz for Freesync, it's pretty pathetic that one of the vanguards of Freesync has to be limited to such a degree when they have no problem working with Nvidia to make fully capable Gsync monitors.

I hoped more manufacturers would be on board.

Me, too. I'm disappointed. It makes me wonder just how much support some of these concepts are ever going to get.

I can't say thus far either Acer or Asus has inspired a ton of confidence, either, with their spotty QC and QA. BenQ hasn't been much better.

What I read in threads around here and abroad is ridiculous in terms of basic QC and QA failure and a lot of it. Very disproportionate and especially when you see people paying $700-$800 for a monitor. Unreal.

I'm not really happy about this separation I'm seeing where you a brand puts out either a freesync monitor or a g-sync monitor and that therefore marries you to that particular GPU company.

I can't believe that's a viable model and I'm a little surprised more people aren't expressing a lack of enthusiasm about it. Maybe that's why we aren't seeing more support.

I think non-proprietary is the way to go.

Could it be that something in the G-sync is causing the problems that people have been seeing?

So the Asus ROG Swift is around $750. I predict that the IPS version will be over $1,000.

I notice that at the bottom of the linked article it says that the next driver version will support windowed mode. What about NVIDIA Surround? My next setup will have triple monitors (for racing), and was going to have G-sync. Now it looks like I may have to go back to AMD.

They are making the exact same monitor for freesync first for 600$. Gsync doesnt cost that much more to introduce. Im thinking 800$ total.

Acer's new batch that is available on newegg right now is perfect in terms of QC.

Amazing to read posts in here claiming Asus Swift didn't have QC issues.

The current driver version (newly released the other day) has windowed G-SYNC.

You can do triple-screen G-SYNC with Tri-SLi. Freesync sucks right now and you can't even use Crossfire with it. No reason to "go back" to AMD.

Over $1,000? With Acer selling their version for $800 I seriously doubt Asus is gonna pull put a $1k price tag...that's just not competitive pricing at all. Instead I'd imagine the TN Swift will drop in price to around $650-$700 and the IPS version will be $800-850. Acer is finally starting to get their QC fixed on the XB270HU so nobody is going to opt for a $1,000 asus version.

how is going with AMD any better when freesync is having issues with single GPU solution and single monitor and is limited to 85hz? please explain, tell us the secret sauce.

and why would you run surround mode in windowed mode for games? what kind of sorcery are you trying to pull here?

I'm waiting for a 1080p monitor with Gsync to not cost half a grand.

I mean after having done the arms race gpu thing for a generation, I just want to run a single mid/high end card, and have it be super smooth at high settings. My 970 does a great job at 1080p, now if I could just add g sync, I'd be in perfect shape.

But spending 500 bucks for the only 1080p g sync monitor's on the market is just bleh. Show me a 300 dollar 1080p gsync at 120hz, and I'm all over it.

21:9 so actually tiny. I mean a real 30".

A 34 inch 21:9 is tiny?

You're probably looking at waiting another year or so.

Having this market divide (Gsync vs freesync) doesn't help things, either.

You guys are pretty quick to become bitchy.

I didn't know freesync was having problems. I don't have AMD, so I don't follow AMD. I didn't mean to piss you guys off. Chill.

Really need a gsync version of Samsung ue850 or equivalent. Otherwise I'm going Fury X and Freesync this year. Don't see much in the way of 4k gsync this year.

Same here. It looks like they are mostly ignoring the enthusiast market. I've had my monitor (30 inch HP) for seven years or so (which is an eternity in IT terms) and am looking to upgrade, but to something I can keep for the next seven years. Not sure Freesync is the way to go, AMD is struggling, and with the Samsung monitor I'd be tied to them.

Acer announced the XB281HK - has there been any specification notes comparing it against their previously released XB280HK?

I'm pretty surprised that there isn't news at Computex since the announcement of the products. Pretty poor coverage anything tech related over there.

Freesync isn't having issues and it's not limited to 85hz. The "issues" you speak of are that certain monitor manufacturers disabled their overdrive while freesync was enabled, this has been rectified.

The 85hz limit you mention is what Asus decided for their new IPS monitor. It's not a limit of Freesync it's what the monitor manufacturer decided to use. You even have that bit of information wrong too. It's 90hz.

Freesync is working at 144hz on the benq monitor.

The only issue with freesync at the moment is that it doesn't work with crossfire.

What about the sub 40 fps dead zone stutter? Or the ghosting issues?

maybe the new firmware came out and fixed it for the Benq monitor.

And now with Nvidia releasing new drivers that improve Gsync a lot, and new monitors coming, it's making it very hard to decide which graphic card route to take.

I guess it's all good for the consumer to have all these choices.

At this current time I have to say team green is currently the more appealing option. The new Radeon Fury X with it's HBM will only have a mere 4gb worth and as we are starting to see at 1440p and 4k, games are demanding more than 4gb of vram. Sucks to have such a massive amount of memory bandwidth only to be limited by the small amount. The 980 Ti with 6gb vram paired with the currently better G Sync offering is what I'm going for, and probably many others as well.

Well, I am in no rush. I will see what AMD bring to the table. And the guy from TFT central had some very positive things to say about the new Asus IPs freesync monitor.

Hopefully some there will be some more news of IPS variants of each monitor will be out.
