The Last of Us is coming to PS4 'sometime' this summer!

Really good game. Something with the shooting is weird though, can't put my finger on exactly what it is, I can aim fine in MGS Ground Zeroes, but i cant shoot a thing in this game. Also, is it a waste to unload on clickers? I shot one with the magnum 5 times, 2x in the head, and that thing still killed me. Only got past there after sneaking up and ganking it with a shiv... which is kinda how I'm attacking just about every situation I've encountered.

What difficulty?

Generally you want to avoid combat with them when at all possible. I save cocktail bombs and use a brick to draw them all in one location.

You might have to adjust sensitivity in the sticks. It's a bit slow for my tastes at stock settings. I'm playing on surviver atm.

I only played through the campaign one time on PS3 and never touched MP. The MP is phenomenal and I hate MP games on consoles. I've put around 6 hours in but will play all weekend after my classes are done.

I haven't seen it yet myself, but you can't selectively change the rendering resolution on certain portions of the screen. What it does sound like, however, is that they're using some kind of culling method or not applying filtering on areas where the flashlight isn't pointing to save some cycles. This was common 10 years ago on PC and on last gen consoles. I don't want to blame anyone for anything, but maybe if you adjusted the in-game brightness to the correct level it wouldn't stand out as much (assuming that your display has also been properly calibrated).

I am picking this up after work today, so I'll be able to judge for myself.
So after playing the SP for a few hours on my VA TV, I am not noticing any degradation in graphical quality outside the radius of the flashlight... ;) And I was really looking for it, too.

Also, the shadow quality difference between 30 and 60 FPS isn't enough for me to play at 30 FPS. In motion during actual gameplay I never noticed it at 60 FPS until I actually stopped to examine them. Actor shadows are still crisp and high-res, though, which is what the player will be focused on during normal gameplay.

There is no reason to not play this game at 60 FPS, in my opinion.

Really? I read it was started very shortly after they released the PS3 version on multiple sites which was June 14, 2013. Regardless, it was a pretty short turn around time.

I'll be trading in Need for Speed Rivals Friday for the game finally. Apparently you can get $24 for NFS still.
They may mean "running" on PS4 hardware in February.

ND did not even receive PS4 developer kits until September. SOURCE.

They may of started planning in June 2013 and upscaling graphics etc with an estimated specs of the PS4 in mind.

I just don't understand the purest audience that would want to run at 30 fps. This game is SO much better at 60 fps.

And also its beautiful. The PS4 shines well with this remaster and the fact that they pumped it out so quickly early in the console cycle is very impressive. I love the remakes frankly because I think lots of people who stuck with the Xbox 360 missed out on some of the amazing exclusives that Sony managed to score. I hope they do more of them.

IMO Last of US is the best game on PS4 and yea maybe that says something about our current generation but its just an amazing game. Happy to play it over again and get deep into the MP.

The degradation is definitely there. It's very easy to spot early on in the game before getting Ellie and soon afterwards in the leaning office building. Usually desks, coffee pots and lamps, etc.

The 30 fps shadows are definitely better than the 60 fps shadows and are easily noticeable. But in full motion, the pros of 60 fps outweigh the pros of the 30 fps. I don't even mind doing photomode in 60 fps, unless it's a scene that really needs the superior shadows of 30 fps, but even then, i'll only ever use the 30 fps option for my photo ventures, not to enjoy the gameplay in full motion.

btw anyone else appreciating the photo mode as much as I am? Honestly, at I am more interested in doing photo ops in game rather than replaying it remastered. Here's some more stuff I wanna show off :p.

When Heavy Rain and the Rest of Us finally get some good looking character models I might take this series seriously.

I hadn't yet played this game before and bought it last night on PS4...played it for about
10 hours straight... That's something I haven't done with a game in probably 10 years lol

I came in with no expectations and was verrrrrrrry pleasantly surprised

yup the story just keep pulling you in for more.

And finished the game on normal for the first time. When I played it on the PS3 I never finished the SP but this time around there was no chance I wouldn't..

What a great story. And awesome characters. Those voice actors earned their bacon for this game. Also its amazing how good this game engine is.

The only question I have really is...

Where can the game go now? It can't involve Ellie and Joel anymore.. as they pretty much shut the door on that altogether. They would have to be a new duo or trio and someone would have to be immune or get immune along the way. Also considering the head writer is gone now from the original game I wonder if Naughty Dog could do a sequel justice. We won't see a new TLOU probably for a few years though. Still I'm really interested in where this franchise will head.

To answer your question: Naughty Dog said before it came out that it would be a single game and not have a sequel.

Yeah, I think they reiterated that as well after release. Lots of money has a way of changing that mentality though, so it's anyone's guess.

I'd rather have more like the left behind dlc. Side stories. There's twenty years of Joel's life we don't know.

I'm calling it right now. There will be a Last of Us sequel 100 percent , the amount of awards and money that game will make Sony will force a push for a sequel. There is no way it doesn't get franchised. I'm sure that could be one of the reasons why the lead writer left Naughty Dog.

I just don't see Sony letting Naughty Dog drop a brand new and very critically and economically successful IP. No chance..

Me too. It was very refreshing after most of the games of late have been very boring for me.

I would look forward to the moments I can learn about the world, story, characters. First game that has ever done that for me. Most of the time I am like blah, blah, boring, stupid, shut up, I don't care-in a very South Parkian way. Music was perfect, rare to have such a fitting and perfect sound track.

Well that depends on how you define "sequel". I dont know how likely they are to continue with Joel and Elle but they could due a "spinoff" sequel using different leads in the same world.

This is probably what will happen with references to Ellie and possibly Joel. It sold 7 million on PS3 alone and will likely hit the 10 million mark eventually, it's getting some sort of sequel.

will be starting up the Remastered version tonight!...never played the game before and am looking forward to it based on all the hype...got it free with my PS4 in March

Last edited:
finished the Slum area and I can see where a lot of the complaints about the game being more of an interactive movie versus a game come from...that being said I'm enjoying the 'game' so far

took a few hours for me to really appreciate this game...now I can see why it got the praise and awards it did...the story, characters and voice acting are masterful...Naughty Dog really knows how to tell a great story and make you care about the characters

The complaints calling it an interactive movie are rather unfounded imo. Beyond Two Souls, The Order 1886, or even the animated story games like Walking Dead or The Wolf Among us better fit that category.

You actually play the game, the cinematic segments just build characters and progress the story.

the further I get in the game the more I love it...I'm up to the 'Winter' level and it deserves all the GOTY and 'best games of all time' praise it received...it's a slow, deliberately paced game with maybe the best voice acting in any game ever...the characters, story, combat, atmosphere, setting etc are all amazing...it's not the most original story but the way it's presented is very well done, the immersion is off the charts

I think those that feel it's overrated don't like slower story driven gameplay

Oh yeah, "Winter" was that winning moment for me. Great game.

I enjoyed the setting, atmosphere, characters, acting, graphics, etc.
At the same time, I found the gameplay to be lousy. I'd almost rather watch someone really amazing at the game play it instead of playing it myself. Either that or just make it a giant CGI movie.
Things got better toward the end, but I just never enjoyed the forced stealth for the first 2/3 of the game. I don't like how it was implemented and I never cared for the controls either. Plus, I think they changed things up from the controls in Uncharted just for the sake of being different.

I played Last of Us on PS3 when it came out and it was fantastic. I just got a PS4 maybe 2-3 months ago and it came with the Remastered version so I started playing it again. It's nice playing it again because the graphics are outstanding, the 60FPS just feels incredible, and the overall feeling is better this time around. I am really enjoying playing it again, and from what I could tell there is a prequel or something in the main menu listed under The Last of Us which i've never tried so i'll be curious to try that out. It's been a long enough time since playing it through the first time that I don't remember much only certain things here and there.

And just to throw some props out there, and have been echoed above but Naughty Dog are truly masterful story tellers. And on top of that, they manage to somehow blend the perfect amount of action, story, humor, and emotion into their games and on top of that making amazing looking games. I mean, Uncharted 2 even by today's standard looks incredible in some areas. I can't imagine what Uncharted 4 will look like. Even playing The Last Of Us I was thinking," Take note developers, this is how you do a HD remaster" just because everything was done so well so that it still looked "next-gen" but it also gave us that solid 60FPS. I don't mind developers wanting to push the envelope in games as far as graphics, but if you can't give a consistent experience then don't bother. I'd rather have a game that looks slightly "worse" in solid 60FPS than a "better" looking game at 30FPS with maybe some dips below.

the aim/shoot controls took some getting used to and felt a bit wacky in the beginning

the 'Left Behind' DLC comes packaged with the Remastered edition...it gets very good reviews as well...in the game menu it does say that the DLC should only be played after completing the main game so I'm not sure if it's a prequel or set after the events of the main game

the graphics do look really amazing and 60 FPS gives it that extra shine...of course it doesn't have the crisp AA or other high end PC options that would take this to another level but for a console it looks incredible...the part of the game when you go on horseback through the Wyoming wilderness searching for Ellie was stunning...I found myself just looking around admiring the lighting, atmosphere and detail in the environment

It takes place both during the events of the main game and before the events. Very solid DLC, and you should definitely play it after completing the main game.

finished the game- 23 hours...loved the game overall but didn't particularly care for the very end...leaves things a bit too open-ended for my tastes...I thought Naughty Dog stated that story of Joel and Ellie would have a definitive ending with no possibility of sequels etc but it sure seems like more games are possible...overall the game is not in my Top 5 of all time but it might be Top 10...more games need to focus on story over pixels even though Last of Us looked amazing on the PS4...Bloodborne, Last of Us and the upcoming Uncharted 4 look incredible from a graphics standpoint and gives me hope that if the PC ever does die out then I can still enjoy games on a console

now on to the Left Behind DLC

I thought the ending was perfect but I can see why some won't like it.

the Left Behind DLC was fantastic...I liked it better then the main game...had better pace...there was a perfect balance of slow talky moments and action...the shorter run time probably also helped make it move quicker...the way the DLC builds up the relationship between Ellie and Riley through a lot of conversation and interactivity while walking through the destroyed mall was well done...the scene with them 'playing' that arcade game was one of the best character moments in any video game ever created...what other developer would be able to get away with scenes like that which fleshed out their backstory and relationship without resorting to flashy action scenes

Naughty Dog has overtaken the old BioWare in terms of dialogue and character building...I wish they would move away from PS4 exclusives into the PC world but honestly titles like the Last of Us might be better suited for consoles where substance matters over style

kudos to Troy Baker (Joel) who's really become the go to voiceover guy in video games...he's the Andy Serkis of video games...looking up his voiceover history I was surprised at how many games he's been involved with- I knew about Bioshock: Infinite, Far Cry 4 and Arkham: Origins but he was also in Shadow of Mordor, Infamous: Second Son and upcoming work in Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain, Arkham Knight and Uncharted 4

I'm genuinely happy you enjoyed the game so much. :) It's definitely one of the best games of the last few years.

I really hope you play MGS next month.
You'll see how weak the gameplay really is with TLOU.

it's the little things that make this game so great...for example when your flashlight starts acting up and blinking a prompt comes on the screen to shake your controller...in the beginning I didn't get what to do but it makes sense as that's what people do with real flashlights

I really hope you play MGS next month.

TLOU is character and story driven...I can see it being a game that not everyone would appreciate

And MGS isn't? Ha ha. Once you've seen all the cinematics, whats left over?
I've compared these in the past, I don't wanna rehash all that again but, it's good that you guys will be able to make the exact comparison yourselves soon.

Most people say its a "preview" of the Phantom Pain gameplay, storywise it is the prologue to TPP...
That said I've put 30-40 hrs into the game, even though you can beat the "main quest" fairly quickly. There's plenty of game there if you go after everything. There will be a few differences/enhancements to the gameplay here and TPP game, like the time accel and mother base system, but the sneaking game is pretty much the same as GZ. It's a proper sneaking game, regardless of the politics regarding its length.
