World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor Expansion is $30 @Amazon

I got to 100 through questing from level 1 (well technically I got my Hunter to 91 and then boosted a DK to 90 and then continued to 100 with it) recently. I pretty much played fresh from 1 when I bought WoD (never played before really).

I just ended up cancelling my subscription... well yesterday. WoW's social system just sucks. Namely, getting into a guild I actually want to get into is nearly impossible. All I get requests from are spammers and the like. Before I knew it, all I was doing is running around making Hexweave bags and enchantments... and sending followers on missions. That's kind of like a cell phone management game. I hadn't been on any raids at all and I hadn't found any people to play with. Granted, managing your garrison is kind of fun, but it's not worth 15$ per month.

I mean I really liked the rest of the game, so it's just kind of baffling to me that their social system is practically nonexistent. It's something that F2P's have had for ages, but WoW practically doesn't have at all. It has a guild finder, but it's widely acknowledged to be utterly useless. So all I ended up getting out of it is going through the storyline and then quitting. These are maybe just a few words of warning to people without IRL friends to play with. I had one, but he couldn't keep up with the time commitment. In this game you really have to go out of your way to find like-minded people.

Granted, the story and quests are pretty fun, but they're kind of like a one-time thing.

Finding a good guild is not easy especially with a nearly decade old game. Expecting the game creators to "make friends" for you is not their job either. Use websites to find out who the top guilds are on your server and go to their website or try making contact with their members. Conduct and introduce yourself in a manner that doesn't make them blow you off. Offer something to them in order to begin opening the door (e.g. are their supplies that need to be farmed for raiding). I spent 2 years on WoW before I finally worked into a world 100 rank guild. "tough work" by all intents and purposes, but a rewarding group to play with in terms of video games.

Uh... no. I'm not taking a second job in order to play a game. It IS a developer's job to make this easier for me because there's really no point in playing an MMORPG over an RPG if not for playing with other people. So developing social functions to facilitate this is TOTALLY part of their job. If it wasn't, why would there even be a community tab? The point is WoW made a totally half-hearted attempt at this.

Second of all, you totally misunderstand the aim I want in a good guild. Which is not necessarily gear or raid advancement. Which is funny, because that's what every WoW player defaults to as the aim for a guild. I care more about the social aspect. IE what do I get out of being in your guild, not just the other way around. I'm not some employee looking for a job at your corporation. That's one of the saddest jokes I've ever heard. Rather, if every guild in WoW acts that elitist, then I'm very glad I closed my subscription out. I simply wanted like-minded individuals to hang out with. That kind of process is much easier when there are competent social functions included within the game, not a guild finder that has guilds from years back still included in the listing. Not to mention for GM's I have been told that it's difficult to check who applied.

And this is why I have 2 "main" characters on different servers. One is for raiding and getting gear, which I have about maxxed out without going mythic, as frankly, that is pushing the raid thing a bit too much for my current lifestyle, so max heroic, and another character on a different server on the other side in a more casual relaxed play for fun with crowd. Some are raiders, some aren't, one gal has like 1 of each class, and ALL crafting maxxed out, and she helps with characters, etc. I.e. this is the more "social" guild... I log into either as I feel like playing. And, I admit that I didn't have to try too hard to get into either guild.

The New Expansion is anything but Disappointing :( RIP WOW. It had it's time. The Developers are pretty retarded now a days about new content and such... They have stopped listening to US (The Consumers) and began acting like EA.

Man, you would have not made it past level 5 in Everquest - let alone gotten into a raiding guild.

Probably not, but he's got a point to a degree. Now, I don't need it obviously, but I'm sure a lot of others do, you'd think there'd be an "easy" way to communicate with guilds. Considering everything else is easy, hah. :)

Honestly it's one of the many reasons I quit MMORPGs. High end content guilds have always, and will always be, second jobs.

Except I kind of never said I was into those top tier raiding guilds and stuff. I just kind of want to experience the content with some people that I would have fun playing with. As it is now, I seriously have to go out of my way and invest days worth of time trying to find guilds/friends that I would like. Because they're not always going to be online, and chances are the one inviting me is just a spammer. Which by the way guild invite spamming probably exists in the game due to the fact that its guild system sucks so much.

The fact of the matter is... WoW's social functions either suck or are entirely nonexistent. This is an area that many other games have done more development in. Pathetically enough, even Maplestory has better guild finder and friend finder functions. I think that kind of segregated atmosphere also kind of shows in the chats. When I log into my garrison on any given day and take a peek at the trade chat... what do I see? Well, I'm sure any of you that play should know by now. Nothing worthwhile. Aside from that, you have your progression/mythic guilds looking for their next employee.

I feel like when I got to 100, things just took a nosedive. Up until then, the content was better designed than any other MMORPG I've played. Couldn't they just put in a bit more effort here?

Yup I'm been there and done that.

Was in a top 50 guild back in 2006-2011, it was my second life. We always did server first and dedicated our lives to make sure we were #1 on our server. Not all about that life now, it was fun when I was younger!

Now I have kids and a career, I only have maybe 1 hour a day for games. Probably 1 game of LoL and movies. Then spend time with family.

Those saying it's dead/cancelling etc. Just use the Token system... It's very easy to get 20-25k gold without much effort. It's how I'm now paying for my subscription. I don't really do any questing/farming etc anymore I login mess around on alts and raid twice a week and make about 50-60k a week and buy a token a week or so before my sub ends.

aprt of this is due to two things: 1) being an older game, a significant portion of the playerbase has played/grown up with each other and don't really get out of that "circle" . 2) trade chat/general chat/ area chat in most games is crap.. especially ina game like wow that still has a lot of mainstream players.. its simply how people are..

Ive been back and forth between wow, star wars the old republic, star trek, destiny, and rarely if ever seen any good chat outside of controlled popularity chat channels (channels you either have to be in, or invited into).
