What are the top 10 games that you've played in the past calendar year? Does not matter if the game came out 20 years ago, or the platform, but please limit the list to 10 that you have played in the past calendar year. Of course you can toss in some honorable mentions. ;) Mods are welcome, and if you can please link where you can get it from.

I try to do this yearly for the community to make recommendations to others to look for on The Steam Summer Sale, Humble Bundle, GOG sales, Origin sales, etc as they usually start in the next month or so. :)

All I've really played this year so far is a whole lot of Batman Origins, Dead Space 3 and me and my boy have played a shit ton of Borderlands 2 co-op. I can go ahead and say Batman Arkham Knight will likely be my #1 game this year and I can't wait to log about 100 hours on it.

In no particular order (for now)

1- Ori and the Blind Forest. Perfect match of platforming, boss fights, challenge and length. Graphics are decent and the soundtrack (music and effects) is awesome. Cheap too.
2- Civilization Revolution 2 I know, it's a mobile game. But I love the Civ series and being able to play it on my iPhone6+ on the train is fantastic.
3- Shadows of Mordor It's pure fun, nonstop.
4-
5-
7-
8-
9-
10-

Thus far this year?

1. Diablo 3: RoS
2. Civ 5
3. Skyrim
4. Titan Quest:IT (Soulvizier)
5. Grim Dawn

In no particular order so far this calendar year:
  • Dark Souls II (PC)
  • Dead Space 3 (PC)
  • Destiny (PS4)
  • Dying Light (PC)
  • Forza Horizon 2 (XBONE)
  • Grand Theft Auto V (PC)
  • Project CARS (PC)
  • Titan Quest: Immortal Throne (PC, Vanilla with Fanpatch + Patchfix)
Haven't really played much of anything so far this year... At least to give my opinion one way or the other.

I don't know that I've even played 10 games in the past calendar year, but I did just graduate and am working through my backlog. Here's what I played in the past year.

  1. Pillars of Eternity (currently playing)
  2. Divinity: Original Sin
  3. Shadowrun: Dragonfall
  4. Wasteland 2
  5. Dishonored
  6. Defense Grid 2

The only 2 recent games that managed to hold my attention till completion were mordor and gta5. Really TRYING To like witcher 3 but 2 couldn't keep me interested...
Ori was cool, maybe ill reinstall it...

Elite : Dangerous has kept me busy since December. Addiction baby, addiction.

Cities Skyline is good, but lacks something I cannot put my finger on.

Tomb Raider
Far Cry 4
Crysis 3
GTA V
Wolfenstine New Order
Wolfenstine New Blood
Ryse: Son of Rome
Need for Speed Hot Pursuit
StarCraft II
Age of Empires 3

Age of Wonders 3
Baldurs Gate 2 EE
Cities Skylines
Divinity Original Sin
GalCiv3
Pillars of Eternity
Shadowrun Dragonfall
The Walking Dead season 2
Wasteland 2
Xenonauts

Backed five of those, six if you count the founders for GalCiv3. All were worth it. Last year in games was excellent from my pov.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
Shadows of Mordor
Haven't really played a whole lot else that is recent...doing Witcher 3 now and so far that is pretty good.

In order:

- Dark Souls 2: Scholar
- Bloodborne
- The Witcher 3
- Dying Light
- GTA 5
- H1Z1 (battle royale)
- Shadow of Mordor
- Infamous SS

And the winner for Most Disappointing Game of The Last Decade goes to:

- Destiny

I didn't game much in the last year, I recently just got back into it but so far my favorite games I've played in the last 365 days are...

Witcher 3 (still playing, been a fan of the series since the beginning)
MGS: Ground Zeroes (can't wait for The Phantom Pain)
Shadow of Mordor
Prison Architect
Plague Inc: Evolved (this game actually got me back into gaming after a significant decline in interest in the last few years)
Grand Theft Auto 5

I would include The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, but it felt more like a interactive movie or something, had a decent experience with it though.

I dont think ive even played 10 games this past year, im not a fan of most of whats come out lately but not in order...

1) Dota 2
2) Heroes of the Storm
3) Divinity OS
4) Pokemon X/Y?
5) Diablo 3 RoS
6) Forza Horizon 2
7) Shadows of Mordor
8) Starcraft 2 Heart of the Swarm
9) WoW
10) Dragons and Knights on android

I didnt even finish 1/4 of those, meh, not a great year for gaming in general

2015 is by far the best year for games since 2007. Look at the games released within the last 3 months The Witcher3, Bloodborne, DS2 scholar, GTA5 PC and Batman next month and Star Wars Battlefront this holiday. Crazy good year.

Witcher 3 is pure mediocrity for me, poor combat, mediocre graphics meh. Cannot stand GTA games, and flat out refuse to buy V for PC after the BS they pulled with GTA online on consoles, hate the shooting mechanics theyre god awful. DS2...no opinion on that, Arkhan games again, shitty combat. so...no.

They have identical combat to the game you chose at #7 on your list, Shadows of Mordor. I mean identical. You hated GTA5 and Witcher but like Pokemon?

Some people have strange taste.

If im playing a shooter or any game that has shooting elements i want it to play like a tight controlled shooter (another reason why i couldnt even finish the EXTREMELY overrated last of us), GTA offers none of that. Mordor is more responsive and has the added nemesis system that Witcher does not which gives the combat a strategic approach on the higher difficulties, Pokemon at least requires strategic combat to compete online which GTA requires none of

Updated the list. Thanks for the lively discussion and adding the best of the games that you've played to the list. :)

In no special order and, yes, even those “dated” games have been this year…

GTA5
Last of Us
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2
The Walking Dead Season 2
Wolf Among Us
Kings Quest 5
Deponia trilogy
Shadows of Mordor
Wing Commander 1&2
Hotline Miami

The ones I played in the past year in no particular order:

Shadow of Mordor
Halo MCC
Watch Dogs
Titanfall
Starcraft II
World of Warcraft
Plants Vs Zombies

World of Tanks
Team Fortress 2
Warframe
GTA V
Grid 2 (got 30% before getting bored)
Payday 2
Euro Truck Simulator
Thief
Tomb Raider
Farcry 4
Dues Ex HR
The Forest
H1Z1
L4D2 (Still a good game)
PlanetSide 2
Dead Island + Riptide
World of Warcraft (New Expansion Sucks , Quit playing right now. Mainly cause flying = gone )
Battlefield 3 & 4
Alice Madness Returns
Borderlands 2
DarkSiders II
Garry Mod
Hitman Absolution
Organ Trail (Bad ass classic , I always die though :( )
The Walking dead

Games I've played in 2015:

Plants versus Zombies: Garden Warfare
Volgarr the Viking
Destiny
Bloodborne
Dark Souls 1 (re-visted after playing through BB a few times)
Resident Evil 6 (for all of 2 hours)
Hitman Absolution
Deus Ex Human Revolution
Shovel Knight
The Legend of Grimrock 2

Since I can't think of any other game I've played in 2015, this will have to be my top 10 list for now.

Some people have strange taste.

Some people are best avoided as well, an easy feat online! Not so much in real life. Good thing this is the former.

Mass Effect series (Replayed 1 & 2, now replaying 3. I love ME, all of them.)
Far Cry 3
Lifeless Planet
Black Ops 2
Dreamfall Chapters
Diablo 3
Deus Ex: HR
Wolfenstein: New Order

Game time has been limited the past 12-14 months. New job and new girlfriend have taken up a lot of my free time.

KOTOR 1
KOTOR 2

That's it for now I think.

No order:
Far Cry 4
Borderlands 2
Borderlands: Pre-Sequel GTA5
Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare
TF2
Homeworld Remastered Collection
Wolfenstein: New Order/Old Blood
Dead Effect
Left 4 Dead 1 and 2

South Park The Stick of Truth
Assassin's Creed 4
Far Cry 4
Ultra Street Fighter 4
Both of the GTA4 DLC's
Dark Souls 2
Bloodborne
Dragon Age Inquisition and GTA5 would probably be the best of the bunch

Arma 2 + OA + British Armed Forces + Army of the Czech Republic + Private Military Contractors
Arma 3
Grand Theft Auto V PC
Warframe
Team Fortress 2
Red Orchestra 2
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
Runescape (yes I still play, leave me alone)
H1Z1
Battlefield 4
Titanfall
War Thunder
World of Tanks
World of Warships

That's my usual rotation throughout the year.

HAH, I totally forgot ArmA 3...though I've been playing that since before 2015. Still, with the patches and DLCs the game has really improved, as well as user-made content maturing as well.

The only 2 recent games that managed to hold my attention till completion were mordor and gta5. Really TRYING To like witcher 3 but 2 couldn't keep me interested...
Ori was cool, maybe ill reinstall it...

Thank you for an actual honest list. Seriously, this isn't a "name as many new games you own" contest. (Tho I did read every list entry as a serious choice.)

My problem with games has constantly been that I get bored with them sooner than later.

1. GTA5 I finished and would play more if the story kept going while Online I am bored with.
2. State of Decay was a lot of fun too and I'm playing the DLC Breakdown to see how far I can get, altho the fact that you can't grow your base more makes me want to not play it.
3. Stranded Deep - awesome alpha stage game.. but since it's still in development after figuring it all out I slowly forgot about itm jsut the memories of how awesome it was.
4. Cities Skylines was a lot of fun but once I finished a crazy city.. have yet to look back.
5. Plague Inc Evolved - Surprisingly a very fun game, had me for hours, and the Planet of the Apes virus made it amazing.
6. NBA 2k15 - Bugged me so bad that it was so damn hard to play! After many hours at it I finally figured how the system (with bugs) works and got good (and avoid bugs, or try), and kinda forgot about it with GTA5 out.
7. Trials Fusion - fun little physics side-scroller.

There's really not a lot of games made noadays that make you happy to play them... It's all hype for a specific subject or idea and once you achieve your personal goal (whatever it may be) of playing it, it's done and boring. Take Mario and Pokemon back in the day, hell we still wanna play that! :\

Would really like some more honest lists guys, really.

in the past year.. hrm..

Bioshock: Infinite
Tomb Raider
Dead Space trilogy
the new Medal of Honor
Alan Wake duo.

Yes, a little older as far as games go, but I'm still clearing out my backlog.

Hey, my list was as honest as possible - I too get bored with games, but the ones on my list are the only ones that could keep my interest long enough to continually keep playing, which really says something. The only recent one on there is Witcher 3, which I just can't put down.

Not to much gaming time this post year, but for a few standouts :

Dragon Age: Inquisition (stands head & shoulders above everything else)

Then comes :

Plants VS. Zombies: Garden Warfare
Pillars of Eternity
Life is Strange (game/interactive graphic novel)
A few tables from Pinball FX
Thief
