The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt: Official Thread

So I have not one, not two, but THREE bugged quests lol.

The "Temerian valuables" treasure hunt, "Dirty funds" quest, and "Deserters gold" are all buggy for me.

It seems if you do the end part of Dirty funds before getting the note that actually "Starts" it that it bugs out.

With Temerian valuables I somehow didn't get it to compelte even though I cleared that basement int he hosue beside the windmill that is meant to "end" it.

Instead it ends when I loot the chest in the camp that also is thie "end" for deserters gold (And the start) for the dirty funds quest.

I hope they fix that soon and I don't come across more that's bugged like that. You shouldn't be able to do the "end" part of a quest without starting it, or if you do the game shoudl "recognize" it and automatically complete it once you trigger the "Start" of the ques" since you already done what you're meant to.

I see people talking about clutter and so many quests and all this... is the UI littered with these or can you turn off all hints that there are quests places? When you're on a quest is there an arrow to follow or do they give you geographical or other hints as to where to go?

Yes, pretty much all of the above. The HUD is very customizable, and you can turn every element off & on per your preference; only thing I've turned off from default so far is the control-key hints, but it looks like you have tons of options to turn off pretty-much everything if you want to keep the hud as clean as possible.

And it seems like guides and waypoints on the map & mini-map vary by the type of mission. Main quests will give you a waypoint or area to search, and an arrow on the edge of the map to guide you to it. It seems like some other missions are more treasure-hunt or item-collection quests where they just give you clues and you have to find the location based on a description in a letter or something. Then there are some that are just "find x of item y" and it doesn't tell you where to find those.

just a note, may be obvious to some, but it wasn't to me. If you put points into abilities they do not activate until you move them into a slot on the right. if you have a mutagen then the mutagen effect will be multiplied based on same color abilities. So putting points into speed/strength alone DOES NOTHING

Yeah, Dirty Funds is bugged for me now too. I think the treasure location is the same for 2 different quests, so it's easy to get the events out of order. It still wants me to read the letter, but either I don't have the right letter, or it can't tell when I read it because I already found the treasure room.

But there's still one chest in the room (and one I found in a river) that needs a key, and I have no idea where to get the keys. Guess I'll have to come back to the area later and try to find the keys.

Hopefully there will be some quest patching in the very near future.

Yep. I am playing with the tutorials on for my first play-through. It's a little anoying, but I can imagine you might miss some important stuff in the character screens otherwise.

You can only have so many of your skill boosts active at a time, based on the open slots per your level. And the color of the mutagens needs to match the color of the skills you put beside them. You don't get a penalty for mis-matching, but you can get a sizeable boost by matching all your sections. Not really possible early in the game, but it looks like later levels can have them organized pretty well.

Speaking of which, I'm a little afraid to ask, but does anyone know what the level cap is yet? Looks like it might be 30, but I'm kindof hoping it goes a lot higher, especially considering the overall length of this game.

If you want to answer this question, please put it in spoiler tags in case I (or someone else) decides they don't want to know. ;)

I experienced Dirty Funds bug last night. CDPR acknowledged it on their forum, and that it'll be fixed or was already fixed in upcoming patch.

To resolve it I reloaded the save just before that questline, re-started Dirty Funds and read the letter (It shows up under "Quest Items" in inventory, rather than Usable Items like other letters). I think I lost maybe an hour in having to load the older save, but no biggie since a lot of that time was just wandering and messing around. Only glitch I've experienced so far in 10 hours, no complaints considering its an RPG of this scale.

Yeah both of those letters go into my usables instead of quest tab for some reason.

They'll appear in Quest Items first, and that's when you have to read them I believe, though I can only speak for the Dirty Funds letter.

Then at some point they are moved from Quest Items to Usable Items - I assume its the quest logic that does this.

I love the game, but I still think the combat in Dark Souls like games is better IMHO. But I noticed I am constantly hitting R1 in battle first lol. I might have to remap the controller to Dark Souls like setup. ;)

When I last fired up the Witcher 2 I remapped everything to mirror Dark Souls and found it worked rather well. Using the top triggers allows for you to attack while maintaining the camera better, too.

Actually I am not sure it works completely. The crossbow requires you to hold down and aim with R1 and let go to fire it, if I remapped that to Y or X then you can't aim, same for bombs and stuff if you use them. :(

Hi,
I'm experiencing a very low GPU usage on The Witcher 3 maxed out at 1920x1200 on a GTX980 SLI with an i7 5930K, 16GB of RAM and Windows 8.1. GPUs usage doesn't go over 60% and the framerate varies from 30 to 60FPS. Why? I have seen good GPU usage on videos seen on the net.

I have founded the problem. There is an option in the game to limit the framerate to 60FPS. I had enabled it and that option generated the problem keeping my cards under 70% of use and the framerate unstable from 30 to 60 FPS. Setting the unlimited framerate boosted my GPUs usage to 90 to 99% and the framerate from 60 to 100FPS. solved it.

the first time I started the game it asked me if I would like to be asked for the witcher 2 decisions. I answered yes, but when will I asked for this questions?

This is what I did. I used DS4windows and made a custom profile for TW3 and the controls are identical to the Souls games as far as combat is concerned.

The last couple of months I have been pretty much only playing SOTFS & BB, so I just couldn't get used to the shitty combat and controls. Changing the control button layout helped a ton.

Nice! Sounds great. Thanks

I just saw your questions, I figured it had to be a limit somewhere keeping your cards down. Are you planning to get 4K up and running sometime soon? A pair of 980's would be perfect for it, or at least 1440P.

not in my hopinion, my two GTX980 SLI can't push all games at a constant 60FPS, even at 1200P, why bothering with 4K? IMHO GPUs are not ready differently from what nvidia says.

Anyone know how the places of power work? I activated the one on the royal griffin quest in White Orchard, but unlike potions/oils/other effects, there is no status timer nor indication of 1.) whether it is active or 2.) what the buff does.

Anyone else with the Steam version checked how much cloud save storage they have available (properties->updates)?

Mine shows "4.34MB stored / 5.66 MB available" which I hope is a bug. Or the saves are way smaller than I expected (the ones in TW2 were huge. I have 400MiB+ of them)

the first time I started the game it asked me if I would like to be asked for the witcher 2 decisions. I answered yes, but when will I asked for this questions?

A little bit after you leave the first area, you'll get taken to a castle to speak with someone. When you get there, a guy will come in the room and ask you about 5 questions about your past.

Holy moly, just checked and mine says: 9.99mb stored/14.71 kb available.

I am a constant saver, hitting f5 and making manual saves after quest/before I spend character points.

WHY on earth would they make the storage only 10mb???

RPGS like this I always have 100's of mb's of saves.

edit -

I wish I imported a save also. I Thought since it had the option to "simulate" a save everything that carried over would be an option given to you to choose, but alas one of the main things I wanted (the tattoo) only carries over if you actually do import a save.

10+ hours in and not something I want to restart for, hopefully people will find a way to manually add it in.

(if you don't know what I'm talking about early on in Witcher 2 you have a chacne to get a tattoo and then it will carry over to TW3 if you kept i in TW2. ).

Well that's not encouraging. I've played 5h and have used half of the storage? Ugh.

I mean, I'd gladly have them take 100MiB from TW2 if needed :-p (which on a side-note, I can't remove my TW2 saves due to the game crashing due to too many saves)

seen, you didn't convinced me.
4K is not affordable for a GTX980 SLI, not if you want a constant 60FPS at least.
try AC Unity, Watch Dogs, Ryse son of Rome or even The Witcher 3 and than let me know, just to mention a few.

All of these games are poorly optimized for the most part, and I'm not even sure Ryse really even counts as a game (slight troll)! I guess if these are your benchmarks, then no, 4K with 60+FPS isn't worth it for you, if you NEED 60+ (do or die). 1440P (or even 1600P) however would be a nice upgrade for you, the extra pixels are very much noticeable, any considerations for those?

Seems the new patch fixed my crashes while in the Inventory. Also I really like the new sharpening filter combined with SweetFX + De-saturation +SMAA it really improves the image quality by quite a bit.

Next patch: fix the small text size and overhaul the shitshow combat.

I also recommend Death March difficulty, especially for anyone that played a Dark Souls game. Its the way this game was meant to be played, IMO. Its really not hard per se', it just means you can't faceroll enemies by standing in front of them and mashing attack. That instead, you have to wait for the enemy to attack, jump out of the way, get a few shots in and take a step back again. First bear fight crystallized that. In fact, first Bear and first Griffon fight there *were* similarities to a Dark Souls fight in the pacing - trying to stay at their sides or rear, taking a few swings then stepping back and waiting for them to lunge again. Griffon killed me 4 times before I beat him, and it was great.

On Death March, Wyverns and Gargoyles (in Velen) feel like they came straight out of Dark Souls. They're "regular" enemies but are incredibly dangerous and have different attacks based on your range or position. Hell, they can even punch straight through Quen.

what is this small text size issue?, i have not had an issue with text.

On bigger TVs/monitors, the UI text is pretty hard to read.

Creepy ass game.

Have you got any screenshots of that combo?

Got charged by a bandit on a horse 7 levels above me, he winds up to one-shot me, and I Telekinetic Blast him off his horse and he's knocked to the ground, I move toward him and tap light attack once for insta-kill, have a nice day.

Finally just figured out how to carry a torch for dark areas; have to place it in your pocket, then select it in the radial menu, then right-bumper to light it. Helping in this cave I just found.

there is a lot in the UI that they don't tell you. Like aiming a crossbow, you hold down the fire button. also... seems like you are stuck with the shitty bolts, the ones you make are limited :( - I guess until you upgrade the crossbow...

anyway I thought the first area was big, the second area, holy shit. Spent hours there just messing about. big game. also a lot of areas I had to back away from...
