Sorry if a new thread bothers anyone but I wanted to fork this away from the GameWorks controversy and just focus on player experiences.

I'm playing on a 4770K at 4.4GHz, single AMD 290X (I have two but CrossFire is not working yet) and 16GB of RAM. The game is running at around 50-60 fps, on High settings at 2560x1440. I turned Detail Level up to Ultra, and turned off HairWorks entirely, other the rest of the settings are standard.

Even though I am only getting around 50-60 fps, it feels very fluid - better than I would have expected. It's even more demanding visually than Dragon Age: Inquisition, and they had a fraction of the budget of that game. They definitely met my expectations.

Here are some screenshots from the very beginning of the game: http://imgur.com/a/6karq

Those of you with poor performance, disable HairWorks entirely. The "High" settings use HairWorks on Geralt by default and most users are reporting it tanks their performance regardless of GPU, NVIDIA or AMD.

I was getting around 35fps in the indoor scene at the beginning of the game at 4k on ultra with a 290 (no hairworks, crossfire not working) but now for some reason I'm getting like 22fps.

If you go to the games thread there's already a crap load of comments regarding performance....and I uploaded a vid with afterburner showing my results....

hairworks seems to be the issue for me

off i get 60fps all the time on and frame rates tank in to the 30s and 40s its not unplayable but its not 60fps ether

this is with every thing else maxed

Game looks pretty dam nice for the reduced settings you apparently have to live with....Never played this series but looks like a game i could get into:)

Game looks amazing. One thing that many people seem to fail to understand is how big of a difference there is between still screenshots and seeing the actual game in motion. The world feels alive. You can't see the way the wind blows the grass and trees or the way shadows move with just a screenshot.

this.

Also 2 Titan X's = locked 60fps (frame rate limited to 60) at 3440x1440 max in game settings.

There's a video option called MAXIMUM FRAMES PER SECOND it defaults to 60 fps you have to move the slider to left to unlimited to unlock the frame rate.

Oh I know, I was saying I locked the frame rate to 60fps.

I'm getting acceptable performance

i7 2600k @ 4.6 ghz
780 ti SLI @ 1200 MHz core and 3700 memory.
1440p
All settings at ultra
HBAO+
HairWorks full on
Motion blur off
AA off

Getting 50-60 fps outdoors
Memory usage is only 2.1gb so have plenty of headroom.

do to hairworks stuff out doors is easy mode
go to an inn or some where with lots of people and check your frame rate

It was outside in the first town with lots of people and animals around.

Apparently Hairworks is using 8x sample antialiasing on the hair/fur effects themselves. I remember reading about a config file setting somewhere which can turn down the AA. People are saying that turning it down to 2x cuts the performance hit in half without much loss in visual quality.

huh ill have to mess with that
thanks for the tip

take some screen shots with fps showing....im curious how good it works and looks on amd cards. I wouldn't doubt you guys figure a way to make it look just as good as green team and without dropping a bunch of money

They posted a comparison of the various AMD Tessellation levels and the impact on HairWorks here: https://i.imgur.com/2wyxv90.jpg

2x looks pretty terrible, 4x looks decent, and 8x looks good, 16x looks fantastic but YMMV with performance.

Man, 2x absolutely ruins everything about it lol. He looks like a flithy teenager with greasy hair and a patchy ass beard. 4x isn't too bad and 8x is the default in game setting i believe.

I don't think 8x is the default, people on the reddit thread are reporting a lot better performance with the 8x setting in the driver than the "AMD Optimized" setting.

Sorry, i think you're right. I have a 980 gtx and it looks a lot more like the 16x picture than the 8x or 4x.

I'm thinking of the anti aliasing setting that you can change in the ini file. Altering that from 8 to 4 cut the fps drop by 3-5 on average heh.

Tried it and it works! Thanks!
How is the visual quality of Hairworks with the AA turned down? I haven't seen any pictures of the various settings, yet, and I'm not playing the game until I get through W2 .

id leave that alone and just override the tess factor, mucking with the AA is bound to look aweful.

0 and x2 look bit noisy but x4 looks acceptable with less performance hit than the default 8. Still, my GTX770 is not enough for it. 35-44fps average is too low for me.
