This super-thin OLED screen that sticks to your wall using magnets looks kinda neat.

LG Display is hoping you'll do just that. The company has unveiled a 55-inch OLED screen that's so thin and light (0.04 inches and 4.2 pounds) that you can put it on your wall using a magnetic mat.

If you can stitch screens together into one large display this will be pretty neat.
ie all can run off one input.

I suppose they are also using an ultra-thin power connector and HDMI cable?

That's the problem. How do I connect my HTPC, network, Xbox, Wii, etc.

This is just the screen, and it probably has a very thin cable connecting it to a box with the power supply and all the connectors.

I mean it's neat, but honestly I would rather have a slightly thicker TV than deal with a breakout box.

Not I. If we had most of the components for TVs located in a set-top box, imagine how nice it'd be if you needed something replaced, or better yet, maybe an upgradeable component system.

Seriously, these things are going to be CHEAP soon. I don't think most realize that these OLED screens can/will be "printed" on a flexible substrate, rolled up in a tube, shipped and unrolled to be mounted on a wall, or a "TV frame" (I coined that). We are going to have whole walls that are nothing but big monitors, and sooner than you think.

They should really start making OLED monitors as well.

Still too expensive. Quantum Dots aren't as thin, but are a lot cheaper and can achieve the same picture quality. You'll see affordable monitors with that first.

I'll take both please?

In all seriousness this is quite awesome. I have no idea about the costs but if they can come down to... around 1.2k in 5 years or so. Forget about projectors in schools - mount these!

Any place you could permanently have a display you could put these, potentially in tiles, to build a display.

Correct-o.

OLED will get throw away cheap. IT is really just a display on a plastic film.
When it is main stream you will see entire WALL TV made with panel you block together.
Literal "wall paper" screens you unroll is plausible, but don't know how practical.
I see a lot of applications for LIGHTING with this tech and the performance does not have to be that critical for that.

I know you didn't say for your home but it's what went to my mind. That being said I sure hope the power to run all those screens isn't more than a light bulb use. Even at that would you turn off all your "pictures" in your home before you left? I'm not sure anyone would really want to replace paintings or photos with these but I could be wrong.

And just how did you arrive at that conclusion? She is hot for sure, but hot /= porn star automatically...

I think his statement was more of a.. 'i hope she is.. if not i have a web cam.. lets make one' :-D

anyway.. i'll take 4. .. .. . of the TVs.

would really like these custom made to the size of my windows that face the road then i would get some footage of the TNG enterprise bridge and play on it just so my house looks like it is a starship on the in side.. maybe give the impression that my life actually means something ;-)

^This. I absolutely hate LCD screens. I'm still using a CRT because I can't stand how LCD looks. I want emissive, fast response, high frequency, and perfect color clarity. This is the 21st century. OLED offers all this and more. I should be able to have this for my PC. Come on, Samsung and ViewSonic! Don't you want to take my money?
