Acer Predator XR341CK 34" 144Hz Curved Gaming Screen with G-sync

..A VA ultrawide? On a 35" display?

Do these companies even test the products they're designing?

I bought a FG2421 and haven't turned it on in 2 months because I can't stand the off center contrast shift. Biggest waste of money I've ever spent.

The curve might help with that, but you'll have to be in the sweet spot. Plenty of people are fine with VA panels. Still better than TN.

Very much this. Do people not realize that what they deem to be a critical flaw might be a non-issue to someone else? Great, so you don't like VA contrast shift. Good thing other panel technologies exist...

I still think this monitor is vapor ware

(I REALLY hope I am wrong:p)

I am Monitor Nostradamus :p

I had a feeling this was vapor ware

Its like Acer pulled this outta their ass. We don't even have 21:9 Gsync monitors yet, and all of a sudden "144hz , curved , Gsync, etc." LOL

This monitor has always had a chance to not live up to its full specs. Although Acer did pull the incredible 144Hz IPS 1440p G-Sync "out of their ass" which was quite a surprise. The tech is there. The difference is that AUO listed the 27" Predator panel in development. A matching "fast IPS" was never located for this display.

I chalked it up to two reasons:
1. This monitor was never going to be full specs which was quite a possibility.
2. Acer ordered a custom panel from AUO and kept it under wraps. Kinda like what Asus did with the Swift.

It just happened to be #1.

Got XB270HU, couldn't wait that long :)

2560x1440 at 144Hz > 3440x1440 at 75Hz, imo. But you'll need a fair bit more GPU to drive the former!

I really wish this monitor was at least 100Hz. I will be skipping over this one.

I have a Titan X OC'd. I could buy another if needed for SLI.

Just saw this posted by TFT on twitter regarding this monitor

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/news_archive/33.htm#acer_xr341ck

this is worth stating again:

"Acer mentioned the screen was G-sync v2"

that's almost worth its own thread. this is the first gsync monitor rumored to have more than one input, which means it's got new hardware inside, which means this "gsync 2" rumor is substantial.

gsync was being demoed in 2013. we're due for an update. that will leave nvidia a generation ahead of freesync, which is exactly where they want to be.

I for one welcome our new seamless-transition-ULMB/gsync overlords. (I wish) (not that 75hz can do ULMB nicely anyway)

It could potentially if they double the frequency and have it running at 150hz strobes I suppose?

I don't think that's a technical problem they're willing to solve yet considering how little benefit there is to having a hard transition between full-persistence sample-&-hold to low persistence. Either the effect is too jarring or they have to build in some beefy hardware to handle the magnitude difference in backlight required, neither of which is an elegant solution.

The BenQ XL2420G was a gsync monitor with multiple inputs. Unless that was something exclusive to BenQ I don't see how having multiple inputs makes gsync v2 so special. There has to be more updated features than that. My guess would be giving the user the ability to turn vsync on/off when you're out of gsync range which is 30-144Hz

If the 35" is 2560x1080 VA,it could look good with DSR (1080p looks excellent to me with DSR). Any experiences with DSR+gsync? works fine?

From what Ive read from others:

G-sync + DSR works fine

DSR + SLI works fine (I'm using this now with my 2 x Titan X's. I use DSR in some games though to be honest I actually cant tell any visual improvement over my normal gaming res of 3440 x 1440. GTA V and Far Cry 4 to me look at exactly the same at 3440 x 1440 vs a higher DSR res)

G-sync + SLI + DSR does NOT work. There are plenty of people on various forums saying as soon as you turn on SLI w/ g-sync, the DSR options from the nvidia control panel disappear. I have a friend who also can attest to this.

And that right there was one of my main questions. G sync + dsr + sli = broken is definitely a deal breaker. The previous poster may not see a difference but along with sweetfx it has become a must for every game for me. Many times I find myself forgoing the in game aa for dsr because it just looks that much better. Gsync was like the main benefit of choosing this monitor over the other available wide screens

$1300 for 75Hz and G-Sync...

IMO that would be a bargain until recently, considering that was the price point of the LG and Samsung curved 60 Hz non G-Sync 34" monitors. But they are now a couple hundred less, and the Dell has been as low as ~$800, which makes $1300 a bit harder to swallow. And it's not even available until September, so who knows what pricing will be for the non G-Sync 34" units at that time.

Feels like too little too late.

Uh, what? So its not 144hz?

Eh. Not really too much to get excited about anymore, given the 1440p 120hz monitors and 4k 60hz G-Sync/Freesyncs hitting the market. I'm aware that this too has Gsync, but I have no need for the niche resolution and lower refresh rate if it's going to set me back that much. The hardest decision I'll make is between the two panel types mentioned above: A -lot- of games simply don't support 120hz, as glorious as it may be, but I love it to death. On the other hand, many of the games I already play would benefit massively from 4k, but I -hate- input lag and absolutely adore the idea of a delay free monitor, and the fact that 120hz chops the native delay of 60hz in half again is very tempting.

A little bummed and a little relieved with the monitor. My 110hz Korean 1440p monitor will have to do until the right 21:9 ever gets released. I'd probably grab one and check it out if I win big when I go gambling, I sorely miss my LG UM94.

So it isn't 144hz? Big deal. I still think 75hz is impressive, but then again I'm one of those that doesn't find 60hz to be a deal breaker either.

I'm considering this as a replacement for my U3011, but I'm concerned that I would miss the vertical real estate.

The September release date kinda sucks, but I'm in no hurry to buy a new monitor anyways.

Hmm a bit of research shows that gsync+sli+dsr indeed does work.

Count me in on this one still. Only other thing I could see interfering would be a 32-40" 4k ips gsync monitor.

The 16:10 vertical is nice but damn I love 21:9. I had the UM94 for a several months and the wow factor never went away for me.

Those 'solutions' don't sound all that reliable. But hey, if it works for those guys, i guess it works.

But I can testify 1st person from a friend who is running 2 x 980s in SLI, that the DSR option boxes literally disappear as soon as he clicks the enable g-sync boxes. So, from a nvidia standpoint, it's not really working (I skimmed those fixes and they don't sound very reliable to me).

I've already been having to do a similar trick to get sli to work with dsr and custom resolution. So I'm not bothered by it as long as it works at the end of the day

For g sync + sli + dsr

1) Disable SLI
2) Disable G-SYNC
3) Enable DSR
4) Enable SLI
5) Enable G-SYNC

Need your opinion: I don't play a lot of FPS games and I really like the idea of the 21:9. I don't watch movies on my computer either. Would I be better served with this or the 27 inch?

Well, you've said what you don't use your computer for, but no mention of what you actually use it for.

In terms of gaming, those offered in first or third person (like shooters, racers/simulation, and 3D platformers) are usually best suited for the wider aspect ratio. Other games like 2d side scrollers and top down strategy/moba rarely benefit from or can even use the wider aspect ratio.

If you're a gamer, based on what you've described, I'd say a standard 16:9/10 format monitor may be more to your liking.

Alternatively, if you work on your computer, the wider desktop space can be of huge benefit for multitasking, as anyone with multiple monitors can attest.

I thought this might be somewhat relevant here:

BenQ XR3501
2560x1080 (meh for desktop use, I know)
21:9 curved
144Hz

Coming Q2 2015. Might be a decent alternative to the Acer. Some people may be willing to give up some resolution and G-Sync for 144Hz.

Here is the first footage I have seen of an actual unit of the XR341CK and VA Z35 version.

The case and stand are so much more aesthetically appealing than the cheap generic look of the XB270HU, don't understand why Acer doesn't apply the same design philosophy for all of its gaming monitors. Am still half considering the XR341CK notwithstanding the lower refresh rate.

Looks, sir, are clearly subjective...

I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted this monitor back when many of us were convinced the hype (IPS, 3440 X 1440, 144HZ, G-SYNC) was real.

Once we found out the reality (IPS, 3440 X 1440, 75hz, G-Sync), I still decided I was going to buy one on release day, as a hopefully noticeable upgrade to my curved LG 34" 60hz.

But GOD, after seeing your full size pics, thats the ugliest looking monitor I have seen in a LONG time. To me (I'll clarify here, I'm an adult (35+)) it SCREAMS: "IM A GAMER!!"

I like my computer room at home to have an adult/home office/professional look to it. That hideous stand trashes a professional looking thick wood office desk. I'll try to cover it up somehow (I'm not into VESA mounts). Fortunately from watching the first video link you posted, the IPS g-sync model does not seem to have that red crap on the back of it.

At the end he said "it will be available this june" (regarding the 34" IPS).

The red trim and large branding don't bother me because my setup is orientated against a wall, so I am only concerned about how the monitor looks from the front. But yes, I agree the IPS version looks more elegant by comparison, and in any event I wouldn't buy the VA version because of the resolution. Both still look markedly better than the XB27HU IMHO.

i just want to let you all know that 75hz/fps with a Gsync like this one will still be very very good and pleasing on the eyes, i have the Acer 1440p with Gsync and when some games were running around 75fps, it honestly felt like it was running much higher than that.

I think Gsync makes a lot difference at 75fps than other monitors without it.

Lol, it looks like they used a Batarang as the base for the stand.

I'm with you...as a gamer in my mid 30s I prefer a far more subtle aesthetic for my gear. It's becoming increasingly more difficult to select high performance peripherals when everything looks like this:

Give me a basic mechanical keyboard and a SteelSeries Xai any day...

True. it's even more gravy at 75fps +

If it's ips, than the high res balances out the 75hz rez
