Nice! I might steal that for work. We're a bunch of Disney fanatics here... more the boats than the parks though. At home I use darker backgrounds so my house isn't lit up by the monitor at night.
 
got mine...and the wife got hers...this past weekend

the local Fry's Electronics got 10 of the EVGA SC in last Thursday and we grabbed 4 of them...the youngsters working at Fry's were freakin'...haha

okay i joined the party. decided to keep titan x and i think it was the right decision. Even at 3440X1440 I already went over 6 gb with shadow of mordor max ultra settings and still not dipping below 60 fps. So vram is an issue even with my resolution and not just 4k and may only increase in future games and sli.

If you have a chance, would you mind comparing temps and fan speed before and after? Curious if they do anything.

I would guess not, though EVGA likes to put in their little sales pitch of helps to reduce temps by up to 3 degrees C. I'm assuming they mean at a given fan RPM. What would be more useful (to me anyway) would be if they would allow the cards fans to run a 100-300rpm slower (I'm a noise freak) to maintain the max load temp (80C or so).

Welp BL2 and BF4 works great with SLI. BF4 is amazing... everything is so crisp I can pick out snipers without even zooming.

Also found my first stutter fest!! Daughter played "Life is Strange" and it would stutter every few seconds. Turned off SLI in the nVidia control panel and a single Titan X maxes that game very easily, all better.

So far working out as I had hoped, games that could use the extra umph work and games that aren't compatible don't need it anyways. :D
 
So what is the difference between the black guard on the back and the backplate in question? Also is the backplate for when you have another card right up against it?
What black guard? The back is all naked PCB, NSFW. Backplate is primarily to add extra support for the PCB, but can also act as a heat spreader. In the case of the EVGA backplate it also comes with thermal pads for the exposed VRAM chips on the back.

That one must be EVGA's not an OEM one supplied by nVidia. Nvidia's back plate looks way cooler than any I have seen in recent times. Minimalistic is the right word to use for it.

Yep, evga sc versions of the 980 and Titan x are like that. So what's the difference between the one EVGA sells individually and the one pictured ?
 
Hmmm just realized SLI + BF4 + VSync stutters. Vsync off is a lot better, but then I'm wasting a lot of electricity and I hate screen tearing. Welp, I guess I asked for this. I could always turn SLI off... one Titan X is enough for BF4 at 3440x1440 anyways. I wouldn't have minded a little extra AA though.

Apparently this happened with the 970/980 release drivers and onward.

Edit: Found a fix, just have to limit fps to 59.8 and vsync is smooth.

I have 2 x Nvidia Reference Titan X's and they back "naked". The backplate EVGA sells on its website has some holes drilled in it, as well as comes with some thermal pads for certain areas. EVGA claims it "can" reduce temps by "up to 3C" :

Can anyone tell me if the GM200/Titan X has full DX12 Tier 3 support?
I can't find any information about it, results on Google are varied. It looks like AMD will be pushing Tier 3 as part of their marketing for the 390X and I wonder if Nvidia will reciprocate.

According the 980 review at Anandtech Maxwell supports up to tier 2. "Tier 2 was introduced into the specification to differentiate the more capable AMD implementation of this feature from NVIDIA’s hardware, and now as of Maxwell 2 NVIDIA can support the more advanced functionality required for Tier 2."

I just don't want Nvidia to sell me a $800 GPU this year and then try to use a Tier-3 GTX 1080 next year to try and get me to spend another $800.
Sounds like the exact kind of crap Nvidia would pull (sorry).

I don't care for the Titan X bios i'm using, it doesn't max voltage. I think I might just live with 16,801 and settle in around a 1450/8000 clock and a 4.6Ghz OC around 1.3V and see if it's 24/7 stable for a few weeks.
