BLOODBORNE - Gamescom gameplay trailer

I just bought a PS4 for this and DSII. Then learned about Demon's Souls and bought a PS3 for that.

Started this last night and had my ass handed to me. I love it. I havent gamed in quite a while, the sound on this gave me goosebumps. Haven't experienced that feeling on this level since the shareware floppies of Doom 1.

Since you went all out and got a PS3 for DeS, which is my 2nd favorite in the series, I might suggest taking a look at Dragon's Dogma. It has fantastic combat and atmosphere and is fairly similar to the Souls series.

I believe they may be working on a remaster or an online only MMO style version, but it is a fantastic game, and like I said very 'souls like', if a bit more arcadey.

The new load times are much better but still need some love. Trying to finish all the chalices and doing COOP and invading can get frustrating with 30 seconds worth of load times.

The load times are significantly improved on the stock 500gb hdd. Couple that with being able to read the item descriptions and it seems even quicker.

.

they are working on mmo style version and already had closed beta 2 weeks ago in Japan
it's planned for ps3/ps4/pc

agreed...load times are very noticeably improved

I love that they went back to the Dark Souls 1 and 2 method of showing item and lore descriptions rather than the generic Bloodborne logo (although the logo did look pretty)

I was farming for echoes to buy stuff from the stew pot vendor. I was out of bullets so I used the torch with my Ax instead of the pistol. Works pretty well burning mobs covered in loose rags or lots of fur.

Fighting the boss in the Cathedral Ward church. I read a message that said try fire, so I'm using fire paper on my Ax. So far I have only gotten it down half way. It doesn't seem to be a real tough boss. Need to keep away from it and hit and run when it seems safe.

^ Remember you can press down on the D-PAD and exchange some health for 5 temporary bullets.

And another reminder when you fail on a boss: rather than tediously stopping to re-fight every common enemy on the way back to the boss, to keep your sanity the game is actually designed for you to run past all those enemies on repeat attempts to get back to certain areas faster. With a few exceptions. This is kind of a common mechanic in Souls games . Of course it really only works once you're already familiar with an area, otherwise you'll get slaughtered.

Yea I learned that run past enemies trick from playing Dark Souls. Very doable running from the lamp to the fog gate without taking a hit.

Good reminder about using the D pad for bullets. I read that early in the game , but forgot all about it.

I always did wonder about that door. I assumed it stayed closed because I killed the NPC that was responsible for it.

so last night I stupidly discarded my machete-esque weapon (whatever its called) by accident. lmao.
i tried going back to hunter's dream to see if it would replenish somehow but just restarted the game after a while, since killing by hand didnt seem to get me anything. I had only just started anyway.

switched to the axe the second time, and I like that better. it forced me to learn more fundamentals, and then I finally realized that it too expanded with L1. whoa.

then I finally remembered the targeting system I read in one of the tips. now we're cooking with gas!

I'm sure someone will post a YouTube video using only their fists for the entire game

the first werewolf inside Iosefka's Clinic can actually be killed pretty easily with just your fists...all it took for me was 1 Visceral attack and follow up

I made it all the way to the bonfire with my fists before I gave up and figured there was something I missed.

sho-nuff. Right there on the steps....

Feeling kinda confident with my Ax. It is +6 and all gemmed up. If I avoid attacks I can take most enemies out with 1, 2, or 3 hits. Went down these stairs looking for a lamp ( hadn't seen one lately ) and found the Hemwick Witch instead. Almost beat her the first try, but her AOE attack got me at the very end.

I know the feeling. I love the +6 Ludwig Sword. I pretty much wipe the floor with most things. I couldn't believe it when I beat Vicar Amelia on my 2nd try. The Witch was my only exception where I beat her on the first attempt.

I have to say I am really kind of upset with myself. I didn't stock up on all purchasable supplies to max before I beat Vicar Amelia. It seems everything in the bath messengers double or more in price. I had a lot of echos with me after the fight and was planning to spend a good portion of it just stocking fire/bolt paper and such since they are so useful, but it went from 1750 to 4000 each. It's not all that big a deal, but I guess that's my real life personality seeping into the game world, my mind is just disliking the idea of spending that much per item when it was more than half off just a few minutes ago.

^ Yes you can backup your game saves to USB storage, or with PSN+ the saves can back up to cloud (in fact I think this happens automatically anyway - on some set interval - but you can you can also initiate it manually right before you switch drives to ensure you back up the latest savedata). Hell, back up to both.

In my experience it was dead simple changing the PS4's drive. Just need a tiny philips screwdriver and a flash drive formatted FAT32 to load the OS from. This is the guide i followed: https://support.us.playstation.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5107/~/upgrade-ps4-hdd

Did this yesterday. I had to download almost a couple hundred GB of games again so I haven't checked out the performance yet. Backup and restore of save files was easy. Putting in the new drive was easier than most desktop PCs.

Personally, I don't think it's worth ever paying for supplies until you're so far into the game that leveling up doesn't matter. There are enemies that drop most everything so you can get both levels and supplies at the same time with a little luck.
Plus, like with Dark Souls, I really only used the items that give you electricity, fire, etc. sparingly just in case I really needed a bunch to take out a certain boss. In the case of Bloodborne, I really only used flash paper with Rom. Flash paper + no little spiders + 1-handed axe attacks will take Rom down to 1/2 his health in one phase. Otherwise, that fight can become a pain in a hurry.

Yeah I don't use it most of the time, just the base weapon, but ever since Paarl, for bosses I love the stuff. I just wanted to have some things maxed so Flash, Bolt and Ash I wanted to max just to have them in reserve. Viles I have been maxed out since the beginning and never bought one, same with QS bullets, I rarely ever fire the gun. It's a bit of hoarders mentality ;) . I now need some more Twin Shards to max everything to +6 but I am near to maxing my regular shards. I have 99 on me and like 40-50 in storage and have no use for them but they keep on dropping now.

I am in the forest now and found my way back to the clinic but dam those vipers suck. I just ran past them rather than my usual fight everything methodology. I wanted to wipe out all the Giants, but only killed 2 cause the vipers are just too annoying with the poison everywhere.

I always ignored the little spiders when fighting Rom...was annoying but still easy to kill...the exception being the Rom in the chalice dungeon...that Rom I had to kill the little spiders because he seemed way more difficult

I only paid for blood vials towards the end of the game when I was working my way through the chalice dungeons...some of those bosses were really difficult so having 99 vials as backup made things much easier then having to farm

You'll start to see Twin Shards popping up left and right pretty soon. In fact, I think there's a troll in the beginning of the forest who drops them regularly. There are definitely some you'll find in the 2nd half of the forest. You're in a weird side quest area right now. Other than bragging rights, I don't think there's much motivation for killing those vipers or the giants down there. There are some items, but you can get them without killing anything. The real purpose of that area is the path to the clinic.
By the time I was at the end of the game I had just about every weapon powered up to +5 just for the hell of it...but I barely touched most of them. In NG+ the difference between a +5 and a +9 or 10 is night and day. +5 might as well just be stock for as little damage as you seem to do.

sucks that you can only +10 a weapon once each playthrough...apparently some chalice dungeons provide it as a rare drop but you have to grind it out...really doesn't matter in the long run as unlike other Souls games you really only need 1 weapon for the whole game

I rolled with the Axe the entire time and I don't regret it one bit. That said, I do wish I had a couple of the other weapons at +10. I certainly don't feel like grinding in those annoying dungeons. I didn't enjoy those very much. It was fun to fight some of the boss variants, but the actual dungeons were torture.

I played a little NG+ this morning and find the balance to be somewhat similar to Dark Souls. You essentially exhaust your ability to increase your damage much more, so normal enemies are far more of a threat. Some bosses are much harder, others not much more if any. I figure this time I'm going to try to do more of the side story stuff and try to keep more of the NPC's alive. It's mostly trivial, but I might as well.

How do you know when you beat a chalice dungeon?

I just beat the watchdog in the first dungeon and it appears that I can't go any further. Is that it? There's no "Dungeon Complete" message or anything?

pretty much if you don't see any more doors to a new level then you know it's complete...you also get a new chalice (but you also get them in earlier levels as well)...they should give you a message that the current dungeon is complete

as far as NG+, I wish they would have done it like Dark Soouls 2 with new enemy/item placement, slightly different boss battles etc...Bloodborne takes after Dark Souls 1 where enemies just become stronger

Tonight I slaughtered the Hemlick Witch and completed my first Chalice Dungeon. I thought the Hemlick region was pretty good for grinding echoes, needing around 20,000 to level. I need blood chunks now to beef up my weapon, twin shards are no good. Only thing left to use twin shards on is my torch and pistol.

I notice that when you loose echoes to a powerful enemy they come back in a less powerful foe, or even on the ground. That makes exploring way more inviting, or less dredful. Also I haven't run into anything like curse in Dark Souls where you get hit with a permanent 1/2 health penalty. I hated curse with a passion!

You'll encounter a few random chunks soon, but I don't recall running into large quantities for them until Yahar'gul Chapel. You'll find a fair number of them laying around there, and there are enemies that occasionally drop them, too.

Most of the game I'd rack up souls in the Cathedral Ward, although after you kill Rom that run is no longer very good. At that point, Yarhar'gul becomes a better option. Toward the end, the Lecture building is a good spot. There's a room full of 1-hit enemies that can net you 15K souls in less than a minute. With the quicker loading times now in effect, that spot would be even better.

With status effects, I never really worried about them. Other than being poisoned and frenzied (very, very late in the game) there's never really much worry about curses or losing your health for dying.

I'm at Rom on my first run through, pissing me off... I have Tonitrus as my backup and main is Rifle spear... close a few times and others just getting WTFpwned... I'll try again later this week. It's been a fun run. I'm following EpicNameBro's play through on youtube and the lore he uncovers.

^^ I like Epic but I don't want to watch his vids until I'm done with the game.

Wandering around trying to figure out what to do next. .then I found Paarl. I tried him once then called it quits for tonight.

Been leveling up Stamina and Strength and letting Vitality fall behind a few points. I think it is more important to hit hard and keep swinging than sweat my HP.

lot of people seem to like the Tonitrus (especially for PvP)...I should try it out more in a later playthrough

I need to change my screen name to Foul Beast

or plague ridden rat

for a long time I never understood what exactly those Yharnam citizens were saying...sounded like 'flagriant rat' to me...I knew they said 'rat' but I couldn't make out the first part until I looked it up online

I like Tonitrus, but it kind of sucks cause of durability. I only used it mainly on the large Viper pits that spit poison in the forest and IIRC there are only about 6 of them and it took the Tonitrus down to 70-75 durability, so that is about ~20-25 or so kills before it breaks.

With Rom, I found the easiest approach to be killing all of his first batch of little spiders. Just get 1 or 2 of them alone and strafe 'em. From the side or back they only take a couple hits to kill.

Once all of the first batch of little spiders are toast - he's essentially helpless. Use a Bolt Paper and swap to your weapon's 1-handed (aka. fast hitting) mode. Keep strafing and rolling until you're behind him and then go apeshit. No strong hits, just weak ones. Once you take about 1/4 of his health - let your stamina come all the way back and then start swinging again. He'll start to teleport while you're attacking, but if you have all of your stamina, you can actually prevent him from doing it with more attacks. You can take off more than 1/2 his life in one go with some timing. With a little luck, he might even teleport right beside you and you can get a couple more freebie hits.

At this point - killing the spiders is more trouble than it's worth with him raining shit on you and blasting water everywhere. Try to make a big circle toward him while rolling toward him when the water starts raining on you. Eventually you'll be able to circle around the spiders and get some hits on him. Again, stick to quick attacks and remember that Flash Paper increases your damage. Don't get greedy as he can still occasionally 1-hit you with his rolling nonsense. When he teleports this time, he's hopefully almost dead. You'll keep this approach up, but hopefully you can actually get a little greedy and finish him off the next time you get close.

I'm on NG+++ and I always kill all of his spiders before taking on Rom, even after he teleports. Just pay attention and roll out of the way when he rains on you.

Took out Paarl then I wandered over to that machine gun tower to find that gunner who was giving me all that grief and cleaned his clock.

Funny thing was he wasn't hostile this time around. No matter. I couldn't lock on to him so I just swung wild and let him have it. He wanted to parley? Screw that! I had nothing to say to him. I took that scum bag out.

He wanted to be your friend. </3
It's how you approach the area, I think its if you come in from a different entry and not the Old Yharnam light, he doesn't attack you and you can talk to him. I'm not sure there is an order to it, but could be(Like having to sneak up on him before he sees you).

you can still use the Old Yharnam lamp and still have him friendly...you just need to have visited the Darkbeast Paarl area first...then just use the shortcut to the Blood-Starved Beast boss by jumping off the roof after the Old Yharnam lamp (having already opened up the shortcut to the ladder) or open up the shortcut door after defeating Paarl

The Paarl fight is the trigger?
