Home network storage

I have 3 PC's and a Laptop on my home network. I'm looking for a means of storage that I can access on any of them regardless of what PC stuff is on. That way I could record video on one and edit on another without both being on and having to transfer all the time etc.

Any suggestions?

How good are things like this? http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Central-Personal-Storage-STCG4000100/dp/B00ARB5FNE Is the newer version really worth the extra cost? I'm trying to do it somewhat cost effectively

Basically any Network Attached Storage would serve your use, or if you want to go cheaper, you can just use an external usb3 or eSATA HDD enclosure, and move the drive from computer to computer as needed.

How much storage space do you need? Are you interested in video/audio streaming? Torrent or newsgroup downloading? Data redundancy requirements? These will affect your options.

sounds like you need a NAS if you're saving all the contect into one localized place.

Map the NAS drive on all computers and just save to it. You can do whatever you want on the computers without effecting the other.

:)

If your not paranoid about security and have basic needs any out of the box NAS would work. Just make sure you have data redundancy for safety.

I'd prefer in the 2-4TB range. Basically what it will be used for is some TV shows/Movies that I want to save, as well as when I stream saving the videos there so that I can edit them from another PC later for things like upload to youtube etc.

I have a 1 TB internal and do okay with it. I'd save a lot more I delete, but at the same time it wouldn't have all the shit like games etc. I'd likely use at least 1.5 TB on it, so I figure for room to grow it'd be nice to have 3-4, but I could settle for 2 if I needed to for cost.
