Intel SSD 750 PCIe SSD Review: NVMe for the Client

Finally.

It's not like they even came out with their entire enterprise line up though ;)

I love it, but it's interesting to see how the real-world application load times in the Tech Report review really don't differ all that much across SSDs.

It's also interesting to watch the SM951 walk away from the Intel drive in AnandTech's benchmark suites. It will be even more interesting to see how the upcoming NVMe version of the SM951 (mentioned in the AnandTech article) fares.
 
Are there any C2XX or C6XX chipset motherboards that support NVMe? Or phrased another way, is there any Intel motherboard with ECC memory and NVMe support?

X99 chipsets can do ECC, as long as the motherboard vendor enables/supports it.

SuperMicro has some 2P 2011r3 boards that support NVME I believe. C6xx I would presume.
 
Stupid question, I read somewhere that as long as the motherboard has UEFI, it should work... wonder how good this will be with my p8p67?(pcie version)

I think it has to have a certain version. I'm guessing it won't boot on your motherboard.
 
I'm curious if it can be used as non-bootable storage in non-NVMe motherboards. For example, my X9SAE.
 
I found that part strange. I wish someone else did these types of tests or Tech Report did them again with software that pushes storage like the various mods for Skyrim or video editing.

I can't imagine them going much further without actually editing a video. And isn't simulated application use the sort of thing already handled by things like PCMark?

I'm still mad they're not backporting any of the support to X79/DDR3. Come on! NVMe needs PCIe 3.0, not DDR4!

I had some of the intel p3700 and p3600's in a lab that I work in with a lenovo p900 dual socket board running 2687W V3's. Both of the drives were actually nvme bootable in that platform without any major issues so long as you told the bios that you wanted to allow for uefi storage oproms.

Actually tested a number of platforms with those drives and most that were z97 and x99 booted just fine with them as the windows drive, its just a matter of setting your CSM support for uefi storage controllers.

The AnandTech storage benchmarks do a mix of pseudo-real-world operations, but the SM951 still won out there as well.

I love the idea of the SSD 750 from a technical standpoint, but for client and workstation type work it looks like the SM951 is still the way to go.

I wonder if other C612 boards like the X10SRA would work

FYI I got my p8p67 working with a PCI-E NVME SSD on a p8p67 and I am able to boot to the NVME drive using the hacked bios I made following the instructions at Win-Raid.com you can see my posted bios there as well, if you want to try it.
