Dying Light - zombies, 4-player co-op

I finished the game last night, 25 hours played with 100% story completion and 75% side quest completion.

I feel like most of the positive reviews for the game were from gamers who only played the first 5-10 hours.

Once I hit the 10 hour mark the main story missions became a chore to play through, the story became convoluted and uninteresting, and I encountered a lot of bugs. Bugs such as getting stuck in walls, glitching through walls, using the grappling hook and not grabbing the ledge resulting in long falls to death, and not having story progress save in co-op sessions.

Not only that, but around 10 hours I came to the realization that weapon/mods don't really matter, there's no reason to loot anything in the game, no reason to buy/sell stuff from the vendors, and the skills unlocks are useless after you get to around level 10 in all skill categories.

Who thinks it's fun to take away everyone's stuff to fight boss monsters? Who thinks its fun to have to parkour through a pre-determined path for 10+ minutes getting reset anytime you die? Who thought it was fun to be in a dream world and jump ledge to ledge, or create travel points through sewage that takes 20 minutes to find your destination....

Have a lot more to say but I'll stop there

I'll be honest I haven't picked it back up since that stupid fight. Sorta lost my desire to keep playing. I may give it a shot tonight.

You kind of half expect when they take all your stuff that the boss fight is going to require some imaginative way to defeat it, learn some offbeat craft skill mid fight or something, but it doesn't. You just stand behind sharp objects until it kills itself. Incredibly disappointing.

it takes about 6 of the throwing knives you can pick up, I think they respawn between deaths. I agree with a lot of the complaints, although to be honest a maximum weapon upgrade can do close to 2x the damage of the same with no upgrades. Not really necessary though, the strong attacks can take out most enemies if you hit them in the head. The other attacks, (spinning, drop, etc) well, more confusing shit that I never did figure out how to use before I finished the game.

If you paid me 387000 I would have a cabin built for you and also get you some parkeur lessons and a few of those boxed games. Hell, I would do it for 300k, saving you some money...

Was about to buy, but then noticed it included copies of the XB1 version. Pass. Plus, only 2 sets of headphones?

For that price you should get the XB1(s) and a full home theater setup as well.

Ah man, that ending was fuckin painful. I totally get what people were saying, you jump from 50% to the ending credits in pretty much one hour maaaybe two long storyline and it is just all kinds of irritating to get through. I mean first off, really you put an artsy abstract maxpayne dream scenario with 0 build up right the middle of the game and you put MUTHERFUCKING DONKEY KONG PLATFORMING IN IT? FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU? Then like the rest of the game is just these endless obnoxious platforming sequences and its all so poorly done. I died like 20 times falling off shit for no apparent reason. It's all random. I'd do the exact same jump twice and it just sometimes not land. God what a stupid fucking game. So much potential wasted.

The fight where all your shit gets taken away (AGAIN) is fucking stupid. If you die (which you most likely will at LEAST once) you still lose a bunch of Survivor points. Stupid bullshit.

chillax. survivor points are the most useless of the three. All you need to do is consistently pick up air drops to "bank" them and when you turn them in you will probably rise 3 levels or so. Run around looking for military knives to throw, I believe they respawn. It makes for quick work of the charger.

Oh, I remember that part. There is some rebar you can pick up. Took the charger down pretty fast.

Not the charger fight...this is the second fight where you lose all your stuff. Charger fight was the first one.

The one where you fight Takir or whatever his name is right after Jade dies

I know Survivor points are no big deal (you actually find a TON of those Disaster Relief Kits in Old Town) but it's still dumb to have you lose 3k+ every time you die in a stupid unfair fight.

youre pretty much at the end of the game it doesn't matter but yeah its strange and pointless I'd already forgotten who that guy was and it was supposed to be some big deal.

Idk what the deal is but this game was really amaturish. Anyone know why you get different color guns? Theres no difference and you cant mod any of them. Seems like something unfinished.

Seems like they were something added last minute or something. There's missed potential on customized weapons and elemental damages. Only time I found the guns actually useful was when fighting the bandits, really.

I just don't get how these are the guys who made Dead island and on the same engine. The news said they shared rights now, maybe there's some elements they couldn't share? In general the weapons are a massive downgrade from Dead island.

The platforming is so easy in this game there is even an auto-grip action. Sounds like a L2P issue to me.

No but seriously this game is pretty easy. There are a reason most of the mods are for making the game much more difficult and the zombies more aggressive.

Great game though.

I don't recall the weapons in DI degrading, it is a really cool feature they added for this game. The guns, yeah, leftovers from DI which had a gun based class. Not really necessary, but good for reliable head popping. Not so much against zombies.

Weapons degraded in Dead Island. I don't believe there was a limit to how many times a weapon could be repaired, however.

Personally, I despise weapon degradation. I don't understand it. How is a squishy zombie head able to damage solid metal? I get that it's to encourage exploration and finding new loot, but I find the idea of a skull being tougher than a metal pipe less believable than that of an actual zombie apocalypse.

Thus far (i'm very early into the game still), I also find the stamina to be really annoying. I can sprint around everywhere and scale buildings like I'm spiderman, but I'm all tuckered out after 3-4 swings of a pipe? Again, I get that this is on purpose to give me something to level up later... but having unrealistically contradictory gameplay elements for the sake of giving me something to do... it just annoys me.

The game overall is fun, but I'm going to start looking around for mods that fix those things.

Wow, really? Yeah, weapon degradation in DI was one of the worst parts of that game. They degraded extremely quickly and cost an obscene amount of money to repair. IMO it's still not great in this game, but it's handled much better.

The guns in DI sucked too from what I recall. Both guns and ammo were extremely rare, and when you had them the damage was underwhelming. At least in this game they can one-shot most enemies if your aim is good enough.

I was disappointed to find an orange pistol called "Rais' Gun" which did 300 something damage, only to find out it just fires 3 rounds bursts and chews through ammo.

sorry, was not clear. degredation in DI, yeah, you would top everything off at a work bench. "visual" degradation? Looks good in DL.

Oh, yeah the visual indicator of damage and repair is pretty cool in DL.

Ah, yes, visual degradation is new to DL. I do agree that it's nice to have on-screen ques that your items need repair, but I would still much prefer no degradation at all.

Dying Light gets patch 1.4 on March 10th, and with it the new hard mode...the update also improves the game's performance, gameplay balance, online functions and visual fidelity, developer Techland said

Elsewhere, an additional tier of weapon rarity level will be added, as well as extra rewards for completing the game, more character outfits, and dozens of new weapons.

One (of many) of the big problems I have with this game is that like 50%+ of your time is just spent running over long distances...it's not even having to fight zombies, you can just 100% avoid them in almost all cases. Kinda wish there was some sort of fast travel, even if it costed money or something. Though, without all the running the game (especially the main storyline) would be insanely short.

The second half is a little more enjoyable because youre in the main city and theres more buildings to jump around. I couldn't help but feel like this game was smaller than Dead Island for some reason. Maybe its just me. Dead Island had Cars and fast travel. It's frustrating to say for everything they improved upon theres things that were better in Dead island. I'm not sure how the same studio managed to turn back the clock on some things. For a game thats primarily supposed to be melee it's strange that Dead Island had many more weapons.

How is SLI performance these days? I've been holding off on this to see if mGPU performance would be improved.

Bought this game so I can play with my friends, then I find the final sequence is single player only. I will say I have gotten enough play time with my friends that I have got my money's worth, but I've no desire to finish in single player. Guess time to move on to the next new shiny thing.

The finale is just a QTE so... Can you get to NG+ without doing it? That's when things really start to get fun.

Worst ending ever...BS platforming while running for your life, and then a shitty QTE...lol.

I sort of agree with that. The running/platforming is kinda the whole game though. I've been trying to think of what they should have done with the ending.

Should you just walk to the top and shoot him in the head? Bit anti-climactic. He is just a normal one handed man after all. I can't think of what else would work. It would be worse if he morphed into some monstrosity.

The real thing I hated about the platforming was that if you died just before the end of that "fast" segment, you had to re-do the whole sequence over again. I feel like there should have been a checkpoint in there somewhere given how many opportunities there were to fail.

Yesterday Techland released the hard mode update for zombie kill 'em up Dying Light, and it added a short video message to the game....the message thanks people for playing the game...but towards the end we get a glimpse of some future additions

we see a bow and arrow weapon, for example, a stadium arena of some kind, what looks like a time trial mode and, finally, the addition of vehicles - specifically dune buggies...with the addition of dune buggies, Technland must be adding bigger environments to the game, so expect new areas soon...

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...arrow-weapon-time-trial-mode-and-dune-buggies

that sounds really cool...Techland is doing a fantastic job supporting this game...another game where waiting to buy has actually paid off

So, played the new update and you can definately tell that the Zombies are more aggressive. Finding new weapons too. Really enjoying this game and by the looks of it its just going to get better.

Seems like they nerfed Molotov production. The blueprint only creates two now on normal mode.

I felt the Molotov mechanic was OP. You could craft dozens of them and just spam away at the hoards. All in all, I enjoy the increase in difficulty.
Oh, yeah the visual indicator of damage and repair is pretty cool in DL.
I like this as well. Your weapon becomes blunted and rusted when it needs repair. Pretty cool.

Also, the destructible zombie bodies are cool. You can see bits of them fly off when you smack them with a bat, exposing rib cages and such. The dismemberment is gruesome fun too. Started using a two-handed axe the other night and squealed a bit when I first bifurcated a zombie.

Protip: You need to jump then swing to execute a vertical slice with your two-handed weapon. Splittin' zombies like fire wood yo.

Just bought the game and am pissed that the game is a freakin Stutter Fest! I have tried everything under Google's library to try and fix this. Sheeesh, I'm exhausted. I'll try again tomorrow.

Have you tried unparking the cores on your I7?

Also, alt-tabbing out and in again fixes the funky vsync behavior.
