390X coming soon few weeks

I wouldn't be surprised if the 8gig model (if true) will be quite dear. ~$750 maybe? Keep in mind that the 980 classified is $700 and the Kingpin is $800, which are both 4gig cards. This is going to demolish any 980.

AMD likes to offer great value but these chips with HBM could be very expensive to produce.

At this rate I wonder what an 8GB 390X Lightning is going to cost -- $800? $850?

Really puts a damper on my enthusiasm :/

Meh. AMD co-developed HBM. So they have the advantage across the board with implementing it. As long as they build a solid interposer and don't have any crazy issues with packaging, huge advantage there compared to Nvidia, it likely won't cost much more than high binned GDDR5, plus you get to save costs in other places too.

AMD has not gone over $550 for a single GPU card yet, but I suppose that could always change. The CLC may only be on certain editions for all we know but that and the HBM are wild cards when trying to estimate a price.
If those prices include VAT then it would put the 390X around $550 US if you factor in 19% VAT (which is Germany's %) and other fees/conversions. I have more than enough set aside for a new card, whether it is NV or AMD will depend on reviews and perf/$$$.

I think they need to release a beast of a card and make it faster than the 980 at a similar price... They are not doing very well since the 9xx series came out.

You should of seen the 4870 release when it was only 5-10% less slower than the GTX 280 but it was half the price. I don't think AMD is going to do that this time though.

The die size of the 4870 was less than half of the 280. They could easily undercut nvidia without taking a loss. Not so much this time around.

I own a 3850, 3870, 4850, and 4870 (1 GB). I even had a GTX 280 at one point... Offed it to a friend, replaced with the 4870.

If the 390X is ~50% faster than a 290X, then I am going to sell both my 980 gamings and grab 2x 390X if XFire is any good at all.

I don't know, I have never owned Xfire before, and before I went SLI i heard alot of people complaining it also has bad support and many people are dissapointed in it also. But I still went for it and I have had a fairly good experience with SLI, only a few small problems I have encountered so far such as texture flicker in some games, but they that have easy/temporary fixes.

Before I went to a GTX 680, I used 2 5870s in crossfire for a couple years. For the most part it worked well, some games would stutter. The only complaint I had is that crossfire doesn't work in windowed games like SLI. For me I play games like WoW or SWTOR windowed(fullscreen) so I can easily alt-tab. With DX12 I don't know if that will be a limitation or not. The windowed vs fullscreen may or not affect you.

You will also need a to purchase a small power station to run it.

Only if that one in the pic is MSI brand so it goes with all my other MSI products. :p

But in all seriousness it couldn't be much different to what Xfire 290X owner's or other power hungry dual gpu setups people use.

Well, if the 'leaked' info is correct and at stock it's 300w, it could be worse than the 290X is already

The more info coming out makes me glad I picked up the 2 450$ 980 G1s I did :)

Still if the 390x is substantially better, I'll switch back to red team but I won't do crossfire again.

AMD about to lose even more money/marketshare ... T-minus 4~8 hours.

4096-bit bus has been known for ehh, 6 months? Maybe longer. It was part of the original HBM leaks.

Only thing I'd mind is the heat output. My 1200w seasonic should handle xfire 390's but it would get so hot in the summer. Going to have to purchase an ac unit.

I stopped caring when they said $699.
Anybody else want to tell me what that number means?

edit: ~25% over the 980.

Yea, I'm not so certain I want to pay $699 for a single gpu card. I think $550 is my max price for any single GPU card and thats why historically I buy AMD/ATi because the value was there and the max price isnt Nvidia crazy.

Same thoughts here. 390x might be 50% faster than 980, but if it crosses my max price threshold for a card, it's pretty much irrelevant to me. That number is around $550-600 for me.

Same for me. If it were $500 for 4GB and $600 for 8GB, thats a pill I could swallow. But $700+ is just way to high for me for a single card.

More like $350 or so for me, I'm a cheapass anymore.
But that was enough to buy a pair of nice 280x's six months ago,
and it'll buy a pair of 290x before too long, which ain't that bad.
Especially if they get dx12 to use the memory more better-er.

Wonder how much not having the mining craze in full swing is going to
swat GPU sales this go round for NV and AMD?

Yeah $699 is too much, at least for me. I could stomach up to about $600 for a 8GB 390X.....maybe $650 if it really killed it in terms of performance and exceeded my expectations.

If it's $700 in USA, it will be 700 euro here. That's kinda expensive. I really hope performance justifies it. But I don't trust any "leaked " benchmarks - I believed them before Bulldozer launched :) still if it's Titan X performance it might be cheaper. But right now, if 390x comes in June, rich enthusiasts will just buy nvidia.

Also all green camp will need in June is to introduce 980ti at 980 price and cut vanilla 980 price, becoming price/performance choice. Just like amd used to be :)

If the 390x is as fast as the rumoured leaks. Then that is at the upper limit of what i am prepared to pay. But the performance might well justify the price. Who knows how much coin it cost for AMD to co develop HBM...

$700 for a 390X 8GB card with CLC makes perfect sense. I think I've posted this before but here it goes again:

$550 "base price" + $50 for CLC + $100 for extra 4GB HBM = $700.

And that might even be "generous" depending on how much extra HBM costs over GDDR5. I used +$100 because that seems to be the vram premium for the 8GB 290X cards.

$550 for a 4 GB (HBM) air-cooled Titan X competitor. I am moist.
Too good to be true. Makes me wonder how the 390 non-X fits into this.

^this

if the 4GB HBM version comes in at $550, and completes with the TX, im all over it like a fat kid on a cupcake...

Well change HBM to GDDR5 and Titan X to vanilla Titan and you've basically described the 290X lol.

If 390X used GDDR5 instead of HBM I have no trouble believing it will be close to Titan X performance at almost half the price.

But yeah cost of HBM is the 10 ton gorilla in the room here

Sure it would be nice, but if the 390X is 30%+ faster than the 980 there is no way AMD will price it at $550.

I'm expecting $650, with the CLC/8GB version at $800

Are you guys telling me an 8GB 390X Lightning might approach $999?

Goddamn never thought I'd see the day AMD dropped a $999 card rofl. Times sure have changed.

:p

8 GB HBM + AIO and near Titan X performance and people are delusional enough to think it'll cost $500? Get real. This thing will at least cost $700 if not a lot more. Cut down version may be in the $500-$600 range.

we are talking about the 4GB on air.

No I'm just saying in general. I read it in comments all the time in various threads and discussions. The 390x with 8 GB HBM + AIO may be the first AMD card that is actually worth $700+ IMO so AMD would have to be nuts to price it any lower.
