ASUS is downgrading me to a GTX 780 on a GTX 780Ti RMA

Your loss. ;)

OP is getting tooled with and that sucks, and I do not want to dimish the BS he/she has gone through. It sucks and is inexcusable.

That being said, when you take into account how many things they sell that do not have any issues at all, that initial failed card is something that happens. Now the replacement card(s) having issues and the promise of a 980 is something we have to take at OP's word.

Why risk it when you dont have to?

I see it from the corporate/beancounter/logical standpoint. You all seem to see it from the customer/freeloader/entitled youth standpoint. That's fine and all, but wait until you are responsible for this kind of fiasco on the corp end, and you'll see what happens.

So when the left rear wheel of your brand new Ford Explorer falls off, it would be OK with you if the dealer decided to give you a 6 month old Ford Escape as a replacement....I mean, I can see that from a dealership perspective......

it's always fun to make bullshit up to make your point. I mean, it's fun but not particularly helpful in any way shape or form.

Obviously the scenario you described would not be ok and that's why it didn't happen in this situation.

The remedy is to replace like with like.

But you're rolling your eyes because you side with the OP in believing that he should get an upgrade due to the inconvenience of waiting for the thing he was supposed to get.

Not exactly.......if the Ford dealer wanted to give you a 9 month old used Explorer in what-ever condition, sight unseen, it would be essentially the same as the OPs situation. You would have to hope the replacement was as well cared for as what had the wheel fall off.

I have said earlier in this thread that in receiving (finally) a working 780Ti, ASUS fulfilled their obligation under the warranty.

It was meaningful that they (ASUS) offered to give him an upgrade card to the 980, and obviously the right thing to do given the circumstances; but in failing to do so.....they only compounded their failures.
That blemishes their customer service as well as their corporate image.

Mope isn't sensible there is no talking to him.

Latest update: Jolene said she could do another special RMA to get the GTX 980. Hopefully that doesn't require me to ship them the 780ti and have them receive it and process it before the ship out the 980 (refurbished). I told her I would have no problem doing another credit card hold for a cross ship, so that I can make sure the 980 works before sending the 780ti back.

Cross ship or bust at this point. The way this whole thing has played out, I could see you sending back the 780ti..getting back a 780..and the vicious circle starts all over again.

I would make sure the 980 worked before I gave them back the Ti. For sure.

FFS! Haven't you gotten your card yet??? they better hurry up or the 980ti will be out and they'll owe you one of those instead. :D

I processed the cross ship 2 days ago, will definitely test out the 980 a few days before sending a card back.

so moral of the story, nothing has changed with Asus video card warranty process since the day of the TNT cards whenthey hosed me with something similar

i haven't bought once since, or sold one in two computer shops I worked in (easy sell to customers when you say if you want Asus your own your own for warranty they just go MSI or EVGA lol), or purchased one for any of the 3 locations ive done IT work for, I figure of the 250-300 nvidia cards ive replaced since the TNT days in the office not a single one has been Asus

Asus made a billion dollar profit in the last two years, and it takes them four months to replace your video card.

It's not acceptable, it's disgusting.

Yep, and dealing with that much volume, every now and then, they screw up, and it's endless whines on forums. Rock on! :)

If they had good customer service there would be a lot less of these legitimate gripes or what you call whines.

Wow, I read this whole thread... What a nightmare.

Clutch, man I hope the 980 works out for you. I know I sure as heck wont even bother with the RMA process for my glitchy board. They may try to send me a socket A. Nobody needs this kind of aggravation.

Hmm, seems like they made it right in the end? Its just horrible for them to waste your time like this.

Lately I have bought Asus products pretty much with the expectation of trashing it if it ever goes bad. My X79 Deluxe MB has 2 dead USB 3.0 ports buts its not enough for me to bother with the RMA problem and I'll just buy another MB if it actually breaks in any meaningful way. Though the only thing Asus I buy are the MB and router these days. I might not buy either anymore considering how my AC66U had a meltdown just after a year, and the USB 3.0 ports on the X79 deluxe.

Do you work below US min wage or what? Because your time sure is cheap...

I've dealt with Asus a few times. Not once did I really walk away happy. I can't say that about any other manufacturer. Other than steelseries.

Ive had 5 bad experiences with Asus RMA, they are the absolute worst. When any of my Asus products die, i throw it in the trash. I admit, some of there motherboards and GPUs are nice, but a company is nothing without good support to back your product.

The thing I find interesting is that typically the difference between similar competing products is so minimal as not to be noticeable in everyday use. I think the biggest difference is Asus styling is more pleasing to the Western eye. It looks cooler! :)

Seems very strange that the only asus rep to comment on this lengthy thread is you.

If they are as great as you think, they wouldn't need you to have their back.

Continue the glorious struggle to prove people should be given the runaround at best and out and out trying to straight screw at worst there champ.

WTF!?!?!??

They tried to screw him over and theres no denying it
They hoped he'd go away cause a lot of times that's exactly what happens. He didn't and that was the right course. No one made them make an agreement they then refused to live up to hoping to wait him out.

My god you prolly think you are helping asus here one insult/obfuscation at a time

You sooooooooo aren't helping your team.

There I am working for ASUS again! I'm still waiting for my first check to arrive..

Mistakes due to high volume I understand. Constant, consistent delays that come across as an attempt to wait the customer out? That's not acceptable, and should not be considered acceptable in any situation.

So to give a little update, should have the card tonight been busy with work and all lately and they first tried to deliver the card last Friday, but of course they use fed ex signature confirmation and try to deliver while I am at work. But I had someone stay over to accept the package today and we will see if the GTX980 is any good by tonight or tomorrow after some testing.

You'll have to deal with customer service for that.......

but you know, every once in a while they screw up.......

they have such a high volume, losing your check wouldn't be a thing, would it?

(sarcasm, if you have been following along.......;) )

Awesome.

I hate those signature things.
I had the same thing last week, there was even someone home, plus a giant note on the door.....guy still just left a door tag and drove off.
I luckily live near the terminal and called FedEx CS and drove over and picked it up......
The woman there acted like it was a huge favor to pick my package off a shelf and give it to me....it had already been pulled for pick-up.

Precisely!
