Blizzard's Answer To Stereotypical Female Characters

What about those of use that want more transgender representation? If I knew Zarya was once a man, and they could put that in her description, I would feel much better.

Its really comical at this point. Anita approves because the female character is ANOTHER Russian stereotype? This is hysterical.

I can't wait to see the same group crying out for inclusiveness justify how a very well known stereotype is the proper response. Talk about hypocritical bullshit.

Sure, but what about us transracial individuals that have no role models in society and face TRUE discrimination? Transgenders have it easy, as they are now a protected group, yet I still get harassed and sometimes even physically attacked when I wear blackface in public, because ignorant phobic people are offended by the idea of simply making my outside appearance match who I know I am on the inside. But this isn't a zero-sum game, so perhaps Zarya's story could be that she was once a black man and kill two birds with one stone. Just a thought, but I'm glad we're having this open constructive dialog.

but I thought only rpg/anime loving kids and such care about "characters". gaming should have stayed nerd only thing. mainstream people have ruined it completely.

Remember when Blizzard devoted resources and time to making content and good mechanics? Now it gets to be wasted on catering to specific demographics that don't even play the games (until they're dumbed down to mobile-game complexity!). Lower the bar and ostracize those that exceed it! Yay progress and equality!

But don't worry, I stopped buying blizz w/ D3. Money, Mouth and all that.

Most woman and men in media who have muscle are not doing it naturally. Remember Chyna from WWE/WWF? There's a reason why muscular woman look funny, because they all take steroids like men. The men and women in the Olympics don't even look like that because steroids is cheating.

Pretty much this.

The nutjobs pushing this agenda are anything but reasonable. Their leader ignors female critics, refuses to debate and plays the victim card every chance she gets. It's internet bullshit drama at it's finest. Their liken to the Westboro Baptist Church of gaming. They are so outrageous, the media has to give them a venue. Unfortunately, they are having an effect on some game development choices(i.e. mother russia looking manbitch). Therein lies the problem.:(

At this point, no I doubt that. For a significant portion of the folks involved in griping about this subject, it isn't remotely about being reasonable, it's about using disapproval and social shaming to make themselves the authority on normal rather than anyone else, and being able to use that to marginalize who they feel like.

Doing that would placate some, but I doubt it would be 99%, and definitely not 99% of the people who are notably vocal on the subject. It might cover a pretty significant portion of actual female gamers, but they aren't in control of the public discourse on this subject either at this point.
