NVIDIA Unveils The Titan X At GDC 2015

gotta wait two weeks:

Jen-Hsun quickly emerged from the back of the room, saying he had one. Unwrapping a concealed box artfully labeled TITAN X, he unveiled the company’s new top-end GPU.

He was cagey about details, saying they’d be revealed in full in two weeks at NVIDIA’s GPU Technology Conference. But he said TITAN X, built on the company’s Maxwell architecture, has eight billion transistors, a 12GB framebuffer and took thousands of engineer-years to build.

Even the card that the joke references isn't 3.5GB card, it's a 4GB card.

Nothing in the article says anything about reserving 12.5% of the memory as "cache."

Calling this anything other than a 12GB card is nonsense.

neither did the 970...

SRSLY? LOL!!!!

Relax ;)

So what is everyone's guesses on price? I think it's safe to assume we are looking at a minimum $1k for this card but some have speculated $1300.

For that price I better get 40% more performance over the GTX 980. Highly unlikely I know.

Betting it'll drop soon and probably at around $1,499. Make as much money as possible then drop it down to $999 and they'll still sell/make more than AMD with an equal card for $400 less because the market share leadership.

If, when, they release this before the R9-300 Series things are going to get worse for AMD. They just can't get in front of anything at this point. Constantly reacting. It's going to be a monster to deal with @ 50% performance over the 980 and then they'll slice it down so far to compete with AMD it wont matter what they release.

All hail our Intel/Nvidia overlords. Kinda sad seeing the writing on the wall.

Dear lord he kept digging the hole deeper and deeper! :p

I found out NV fans have no sense of humor and are willing to pay an outrageous sums of money for a 10 fps increase...priceless!

Yeah it sucks. Doesn't put NVIDIA in a hard spot at all. Just sit back and watch AMD play catch up.

Where did you see that it has 50% performance increase over the 980?

Well not priceless, pricey.

Actually it's very likely you would get >40% performance from Titan X vs a stock GTX 980. I'm guessing the price will be about $1k.

I'll probably pass on it. But if it's a big upgrade from my Titan Black (like 50% improvement, which I doubt) I will consider it if it's priced at $1000, but I have a feeling it will be $1500 or something absolutely ridiculous like the Titan Z was.

I hardly ever use my DP right now unless I'm working on a intensive project. If there was a "Smart DP" it would be a instant buy for me since I mainly hate having to turn it on and off for applications and games, since it kills performance in games by like 10-20% leaving it on.

Though the Titan Black still seems to do everything I need it to. It would probably be a buy for me when I can use my money elsewhere.

I probably won't go 4k until there's a 120hz 4k panel with G-Sync.

Strictly gaming related ROPS dictate A LOT of performance. If they added 50% more then you will most likely see a 40% increase in gaming performance.

I have a feeling this was announced early because they expect the 390X to be announced soon. Nothing shocking.

As soon as these drop on Amazon I'm grabbing one. 980s will be gone within the week, I'm thinking a single full Maxwell should be 40%+ faster than a 980 so it will be a good replacement for SLI. Less noise, no SLi issues and I finally will get to use MFAA + DSR.

Is the card really long? It looks about as long as a 295x.

As a side note:

No specs other than vram?
No release date?

This just seems like nvidia is trying to take attention away from the 390.

We have this new Titan card with 12gb. The end.

No one knows if that's the real card. This was a paper launch/announcement and could be a dummy card as he has done in the past.

That card he showed is the real deal, hence why he signed it and handed it over to Tim Sweeney to keep. The game demo they showed off was running on Titan X. Jen Hsun specifically said more information will be provided during GTC and that's why he was being coy with the details. But I think most of us who follow this sorta thing closely already have a pretty good idea of what Titan X will be. The 12 GB Vram was not surprising at all since we all knew it would be a 384 bit card. Full Maxwell is going to be a beast of a card, I can't wait to buy it.

He could have got away with showing almost anything as long as it wasnt alive.

I'd love to see full Maxwell also on 980 Ti, which would be more wallet friendly than Titan - I take it will be over 1000 euro here. A pity AMD didn't realease anything of value on GDC - we would have same stuff as with 7xx series - 290X launches, NV responds with 780ti and cuts 780 price. And 980 under 500 euro would be a steal :) Hopefully they wait with this manouver for 390 series announcement.

VRAM, bus width, and shader count based on rumors. Realistically people are right though. It'll probably be closer to 40%, but that is very large even if they intentionally did the 980 price/performance to milk the ultimate Titan X. I don't think the original Titan was even that big of a leap performance wise over the GTX 680 at the time, although I could be wrong I haven't double checked.

I just pray AMD did something to their architecture that's impactful like the original GCN 1.0 was. The revisions have been fairly abysmal.

It could of been a block of wood with some wood screws that said "Titan X" in a sharpy marker and we would still get the same kind of reaction.

Start selling your blood now and maybe in 2 years we'll be able to afford this

Since I've had my Titan since it first came out, and I like that I have a Mini-ITX build, I am possibly going to get this one as well.
