I've been really enjoying "walking simulators" and exploration/story games lately and looking for some recommendations.

So far I've played Dear Ester, The Old City: Leviathan, The Stanley Parable, and The Vanishing of Ethan Carter (Absolutely loved the game as a whole, graphics, story and the way you solved the puzzles/scenes). I did also play Murdered: Soul Suspect, didnt think that was a true exploration type game tho.

Any recommendations for similar games with a really good developing story?

Gone Home is a great one, it got many GOTY awards when it was released. If you grew up in the 90's the game has so many nostalgic touches, highly recommend it.

Other ones:

Anna
To The moon
Serena
Life is Strange (thi sis the newest one I recommend, it's just the first episode so far but it's an interesting game with a twist allowing you to control "time" and change things).

You also might want to check out the ":Adventure" genre as a whole, which is very much what these games are but usually less puzzles and little/no side-characters or dialogue between characters.

Telltale's recent games are a good starting point, The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, etc. Both have GREAT stories (The Walking Dead won many GOTY awards as well) and you make choices throughout each episode that carries over to others and changes things (even if some characters live or not).

I've always wondered about The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us games, I'll have to give those a try. I just started Serena but it keeps freezing on me so I'll keep trying to get it to work. I tried Only if also and the constant button mashing is quite annoying so I'm not sure if I'll continue playing that.

Thanks for the recommendations, I think I am gonna put the Telltale games on top of my list. And I'll also try out the Gone Home game.

How about a crawling simulator? The Dayz mod of Arma2 was incredible at that.
You're joking (or half-joking), but DayZ for all its faults is actually a decent exploration game. They're adding some interesting areas in the standalone worth looking at. Not quite what the op is looking for in terms of something that's narrative-driven, but the narrative is what happens organically when other players come in to the mix.

I just played finished to the moon, which I would recommend. Lifeless planet is another game I plan on starting soon, and I think it for the walking simulator category.

I just finished "Gone Home" and I did like it some what but didnt fully understand the ending and where everyone went. I'm not sure if I missed anything but I figured there would be more background of the "supernatural" stuff about what they experienced in the house. If someone can pm or post in a spoiler box where everyone actually went. I'd explain what I think happened but I dont know how to make the spoiler boxes and dont want to post any spoilers. It was cool but not worth $20, I did like how the house was designed.

Totally should. I really want to try Fables comic now (which Wolf Among Us is base on) just because I loved the world that much.

Pilgrimage mod for Arma III is a whole lot of walking. You will have to fight some brutal AI every so often though.

And then ofcourse Skyrim/Fallout 3/FNV goes without saying, especially if you avoid fast travel.

I started to play Slender: The Arrival and must say it is pretty scary. I havent been this type of scared from a game in a while. I'm liking it so far.

Just bought Ether One. Looks like a good story, and from what I've read you have to make choices so the story can go two different ways.

FYI...check To the Moon for updates. I had an update and by chance was curious to check it out. Turns out they added free DLC. Short mini-stories, looks to be episodic with two out so far and more to come. Won’t take you long but a nice bonus.

Note you’ll have to open them from the folder and not through Steam.
