Yet I don't see posters in this thread criticizing liquor stores and bars. But bring up any other drug and whoa now! We can't have that stuff in our pure and wholesome society!

Actually millions of executives and professionals are closet drinkers.

Only musicians can use heroin and still be productive (at least on some level).

You could, if you want, even buy bitcoin for cash. Cash is THE anonymous currency. You don't need a real name for any bitcoin transaction. you may need details to get stuff delivered somewhere. but if someone uses his real name and adress for a delivery of illegal drugs, that person is an idiot and deserves to be busted.

The "drugs" theme around bitcoin is what "childporn" and "terrorism" is to the freedom of the intenet.

You get what you pay for.

Companies are willing to pay credit card processing fees because this allows everyone involved to transfer money quickly, easily and securely.

If Bitcoin were widely used, everyone would keep their bitcoins in bank accounts, where they'd be safe, and they'd use bitcoin credit cards, which would charge businesses a 3% processing fee.

Anyone foolish enough to keep bitcoins himself, without keeping them in some secure bank, is at high risk of losing them all in a variety of ways, like losing their private key, losing them in a hard drive crash, having their computer stolen, having their house burn down, having them stolen by a hacker, and so on. Since there are no secure banks which allow people to store bitcoins, it's foolish for anyone to own them.

This is why virtually all business which accept bitcoins do not actually accept bitcoins, and instead allow Bitpay or Coinbase to take customers' bitcoins and give the business real money.

The difference is that heroin is far more highly addictive than alcohol and far worse for your body long term than alcohol. It has far less to do with a "pure and wholesome" society as the fact that heroin users are a complete drain to it.
 
I have an answer to the OP. First some background. In China, you can only wire out 5,000 US dollars per person per year. By utilizing BTC, you can essentially get around this requirement and have the funds converted to BTC and then sent. The problem arises when you can only cash out 5k on the exchanges.

Why would one want to move a decent amount of money out of China? Many Chinese made most of their money in China and use the funds to buy property in the US.

I know, it's terrible of the forum to in any way shape or form happen to come across as biased based on the reporting of articles that other news outlets decide to post or the comments the members make that aren't tilted in favor of breaking laws by not purchasing the software they use or making fun of drug addicted anarchist libertarians who think bitcoin is their salvation to reach a utopian state of non-government that has never managed to exist that they also have no desire to actually work to obtain since it's easier to complain a lot in a tech forum.

I'm going to buy the material to make solar farms.

When the governmental currencies fail and the Bitcoin crowd gets over laughing their ass off at us enough to realize the power grid just went down and they have no way to transact their bitcoins, I'll make a small mint in solar cells. I'll only take food and bullets as payment.

Let's see, what will crash first... 500+ year old legal tender or a recently developed online commodity to facilitate the exchange of illicit narcotics...
