Why no love for LG G3?

The D850 model I think is the official ATT version ? I don't want that due to the crappy locked down bootloader, you need to use some crazy method to install TWRP Recovery, and sort of like Safestrap crap, I HATE. I just want true root, and true real Recovery. No Safestrap type of garbage hoops to jump through.

Thx. Guy said it's VS985W

Yes, the D850 is the AT&T version with locked bootloader that you will have to jump through hoops and play circus ringleader to circumvent.

G3 has the carrier-specific SKU idiocy (and frequency band locking) common on all phones aside from the Nexus line.

VS985 is the VZW variant. D850 is the ATT variant. D851 for TMo. D855 is the EU international variant.

But will this Verizon version work on ATT with no issue ? I'm fine with gimped 4G LTE as my Wife is on WiFi 80% of her day. And HSPA+ is more than good for her. I just want to make sure important things work like phone calls and texts ?

I found a decent priced white G3 on CL, but guy said it's from Verizon. He said it works on ATT though ? But how's that possible ? Verizon is CDMA and ATT is GSM ?

And can the Verizon version be rooted and have full TWRP Recovery installed just like the international or T-Mobile version ? None of that stupid Safestrap weird crap like ATT phones need to go through

Jesus.. I thought you just got a Nexus 6 for the wife? Guess it was too big for her even though she knew it was a 6" phone before she got it?

They (LG) lock the bands (Because the carriers want it so). The only cell radio you'll get on ATT with a VZW G3 is LTE Band 4 (see my posts on last page with XDA linkage). No HSPA or anything else. Band 4 is the most common city LTE band for ATT IIRC, so it might work, ish.

...but cell phones are almost always in the realm of "this shit needs to work 24/7 no matter where in the event of emergency"

LOL...I was wondering the same thing...although I just wrote it off as Zorachus was a collector of fine phones :)

Craigslist my friend ;)

In the Chicago area, CL is really good for gadgets; smartphones and PC parts. Knock on wood, I've had very good luck the past 5+ years. Most my phones are done through trades or bartering on Craigslist.

I would never buy a phone off craigslist. Do you trust someone that well?

I've purchased or traded for smartphones on craigslist for years now, have never had a deal that didn't work out for both parties. Some would call it luck, I call it choosing to deal with a certain type of person: if they're acting strange and shady they probably are so, I don't care to deal with such folks. If they're straight forward, know what they're talking about, etc, then I take the chance and I've never had any issues.

You can check - to some degrees - ESN and IMEI numbers on Swappa these days, it's not perfect but it has "saved" me maybe 4 times in the past 2 years or so because an ESN/IMEI actually did come up as blacklisted so I backed out of any potential deal.

So far so good, I have an LG G2 running CloudyG3 which is a direct port of the actual G3 stock ROM (minus some kernel aspects since the G2 has a Snapdragon 800 and the G3 has a Snapdragon 801) and it's the best damned smartphone (or any phone for that matter) that I've owned in the past 20 years. I've had dozens of devices from the earliest analog smartphones (the infamous Motorola "Brick" in the 80's) to the most current hardware available and this G2 is just freakin' amazing. KnockOn/KnockOff, I mean really, after 5 minute of using that it was like "WHY DON'T ALL SMARTPHONES DO THIS?? WHY HAVEN'T THEY ALWAYS DONE THIS?!?!?!"

And using it as a device remote control too, replacing several devices at home (TV, cable box, etc, even my air conditioner is now controlled by my G2) - simply awesome (yes I know the Galaxy devices have an "IR Blaster" too, I owned a Galaxy S4 Active which is one damned fine device itself too).

It really is that good...

Been wanting a G3 but the prices people ask for 'em on craigslist and even eBay are crazy for me right now, when it gets a little lower in the sub-$200 range I'll go for one. Got this G2 in a trade for a Moto X (nice phone but not enough to it for me) so it's not like it cost me anything out of pocket (the Moto X was a freebie for a traded laptop which was thought to be dead but I got it functional with minor effort).

Love this G2, can't wait to get a G3. ;)

The 5.0.1 OTA update for the D850 (AT&T) went live on the 10th.
Few users reporting issues with Google Play Services (like on other phones/carriers getting the Lollipop update).

I'll probably back everything up, do a factory reset, then install it this weekend.

I just got the G3 a week ago. I went from a Motorola Droid Maxx and I instantly noticed the battery life difference of course.

I do really like the G3, I like what LG has done with their UI. I was in the past a stock Android lover, but I do like this G3 UI.

Only negative I have is the battery life, but I was expecting to have a compromise coming from the Droid Maxx and it's insane battery life.

Solution. I have one. Do recommend. Only downside: it's much heavier and thicker than the phone itself, so it will add a metric shit ton of bulk and weight.

For those batteries, how does it fair in the heat? I work outdoors and just curious if it'd heat up much more or not? I don't mind weight. I have an LG G2, but I'm going on my 3rd replacement for defective screen repair. My wife on the other hand has had the LG G3 since release and it works like a champ. I kinda just want a phone to hold me over till the next LG G4 (or w/e it's called) or the next HTC phone is released.

This past weekend I did a data backup, factory reset, and did the Lollipop update on my G3. So far, so good. No issues...I think the factory reset helped curb any issues that are being reported.

waiting for t-mobile to drop the update. Wanting to see if this will help the battery update. Lately I am struggling to get 3.5-4 hours on the kitkat.

When you reach full charge, take it off the charger and reboot about 3-4 times, turn it off, plug it back in, then power on and let it fully boot before disconnecting the charger. See if that helps out.
