NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Hey Prava! Are you referring to the new v3 PSU bracket? Necere made some changes that would help to allow better fitment with the new SFX-L PSU. The new bracket raises the PSU up a few mm to give a little more room for cables on the bottom (that will hit the back of most GPU cards) and material of the front-top of the bracket was removed to allow room for the internal power cable (the SFX-L power socket has a different orientation (LINK)).

Same here.. mini PC, mini keyboard, 34" monitor :D

I'll have to upload a picture of my setup... but I have my desktop in a bit of a mess, since I cherry-rigged my system to another psu to check whether my 450W SFX one was dead or not. Mmmmmmm

Hi all!

I have completed my NCASE M1 V2 build some weeks ago:

Cheers.

Another spaniard :D :D :D :D :D :D

Nice build ;)

Nice write-up ! Thanks for taking your time. Can you link to the PCIe riser you used and perhaps illustrate how you've bent it ? Have you also tested the performance and if it is still linking at PCIe 3.0 x16 ?

The PCIe riser I am using: Link
The flexible cable is 10cm long, and I was worried that it would be too long. But it turns out to be a nice fit for my usage because of the orientation of the board.

ok5rwVa.jpg

The daughter board of the PCIe riser has its connector facing downwards so the cable has to go through the daughter board.

kGElfti.jpg

There are screw holes on the back of the board so I think it is possible to secure it to the case. But unfortunately I don't have such skill to do so, lol.

It was a little bit tricky to install the riser because of the lack of space (to operate) and the limited length of the cable. I had to remove the CPU cooler and then insert the graphic card into the riser, secure the graphic card and finally insert the other end of the riser to the motherboard. The last step is a bit hard because I had to bend the cable in a sharp angle while the cable was tight.

if i dont use a c1, would it be possible to fit a graphics card+backplate and a sfx-l psu by modding the cable connectors a little?

I think it is possible but I couldn't tell how much you'll have to shorten the connectors.

Fantastic pictures and info, Tschus! For those of you who are planning a build with the M1, C1 and M7I (or M6I), the low profile 20 pin USB header adapter cable available at moddiy will allow you to plug your front USB in. The C1 (at least how I have mine oriented, hanging over the memory) interferes with the header connector and the fins cut into the cable because it is too snug of a fit. I will take some pictures on Monday when my replacement psu arrives.

Thanks! I didn't realize that if the C1 is hanging over the memory, it'll block the 20pin USB. My orientation implicitly avoid this problem lol. Great info, thanks again.

Well i have my M1, and my 780 DCII doesn't fit, the PSU sata cables are backwards and i need a bigger desk. Many changes this year.

Can you show pics (and update the Google docs spreadsheet) (and possibly post in the build thread)?

Might help someone who is in a similar situation and save them some grief?

I wrote on the section "V3 Buyers" i'm #35.

Pics from the build i don't have yet, but the vcard doesn't fit for maybe 3mm. I hope i can do a build log this week.

Finally got my V3 bracket that I ordered Dec 13th. However, I was very disappointed to see that I had to pay $38 customs fee, when I only paid $18 for the bracket and shipping.

Shouldn't customs fee be based on the value of the product? Anything I can do about this? Usually the seller writes the value of the product on the package that is shipped. As far as I understood, this was shipped directly from Lian Li in Taiwan, with Taiwan Postal Service.

Hello everyone,

I have been a forum member at overclockers.com for about three years and just joined today. I was looking around for almost three months to find the perfect mITX case when I stumbled across the NCASE M1. I ordered the case within five minutes of reading and seeing builds, it was love at first sight!

Current components
4790k
Asus maximus impact Vl
16 gb G.skill 2666mhz c11
Evga gtx 780ti sc
Silverstone 600w sfx
Noctua NH-C14
2x Samsung 850pro 128gb
Panasonic UJ-265

I sold all of my ATX components to have a smaller footprint yet have the power I need to play any game at max settings. This case is a work of art and I cannot wait to have it in my hands. I ordered it on Jan 6. the same day I discovered it. I have no idea when I will actually get it... Anyone know how long the wait might be?

Would 7cm be sufficient, or would I need to go for 11 cm do you think?

A recent post indicated that a 10 cm PCI Extender was barely long enough for moving the graphics card to the case's bottom two PCI slots. If this is your intention then it would seem that the 7cm version will be too short. Get the 11 cm version.

I was considering buying the following flex extender, as they at least claim Gen3 compatibility.
http://www.ameri-rack.com/ARC1-PELX16A1-C7V2.html
Would have preferred something with EMI shielding, but if it works, I won't complain.

I have the 3cm and 5cm version of those and they are gen 3.0 and they are also shielded (they're really well shielded actually, makes them hard to bend).

Woot! Woot! I just received an email stating my case should be shipped Jan, 21. I'm juiced right now because everything for this build is just sitting in my desk waiting. I have been thinking about the airflow of the case and wether or not I should sell my 780ti with the ACX cooler and buy a 980 with the Nvidia blower style cooler. I am kinda limited on time, looking through 700+pages on this thread will be hard to determine M1 users opinions. What do you guys think? ACX cooler or buy a new 980 with the blower style reference cooler?

Both work but the 980 with reference blower is ideal.

Since the 780ti is a really good card still, and probably will be for a good while, I would keep it for now. Though open air coolers are not ideal, they do work, so if you decide you can live with thermals and acoustics you could keep it and wait for the 1080 (or whatever it will be called) instead. It is of course entirely up to you, but I dont think you can get more for your card on the used market today than in 1 months time, so doesn't hurt to check it out first.

If you can prove with documentation that it's how much you paid, then you could try to make a claim.

Obviously Taiwan Postal Service only bring it as far as the cargo ship, so there's another company at the other end that does local delivery. Usually that local company charges some amount for customs brokerage and handling fees. I don't know how it works in your country, but in the Netherlands for example we pay 13 euro handling, customs duty over the value of the product + shipping, and sales tax only over the value of the product. It can add up quite quickly.

The value on the package is 300 Taiwanese Dollars or 9,50 USD or 8 Euro.
Mine was free from duties and tax, got a stamp "Vrij van belasting Inkl. Amsterdam (09)".
Usually, at least here, you can send some paperwork to get it refunded.

I agree with some other users. As an M1 owner myself, I'd suggest you keep your gpu and tinker with it once you have the card, something that should happen very soon. So, once you have it, you can check whether the system complies with your needs (or not) and adapt your build accordingly.

In any case (bad pun intended  ), you will love the case. Once you have it in your hands, you will realise why it has so much praisee, and barely any negative feedback. Its pure passion combined with rational design. A true gem.

Guys i really need your help, my 780DCII doesn't fit and i really love it(the performance) but doesn't fit maybe for 5mm, do you know some kind of modding or a non stock cooler that it fit?
Sell the card and buy another isn't redituable for me, because the money exchange is too expensive and i don't want a card under the 780.

Hi guys,

I've a nCase M1 v2 silver one and I would like to change it in black. Are panels still orderable ?

Thanks in advance

Best Regards

That doesn't sound right.

You can use your PayPal invoice if the invoice on the box is insufficient.

If you have issues, just email me.

Disclaimer: I'm stuck in South America since I misplaced some travel documents, my internet is sporadic, but I should get back you within 3 days if you email me.

Thanks, I really appreciate it.

I contacted the office that sent me the package, and they said the seller (Lian Li?) had stated the value as 120 CAD, which in turn caused the high import fee. CAD seems to be Canadian Dollar... Not sure why CAD is used, and not sure why 120 was used... (I am located in Sweden)

So right now I am trying to get this corrected, and get a refund for the import fee. I will try to use PayPal invoice to prove this.

I thought this might be of interest to you to, and possibly others as well. So I keep the results public here.

I've had this before, although a bit less dramatic. Paid 21 euros instead of the 28 euros I expected. When I looked at the documentation, it also had a different recipient address. Maybe that other person paid my 28 euros when he should have paid less.

I guess that those customs slips are printed in a stack, and then someone goes around all the boxes and matches the slip to the box. Sometimes they make a mistake and accidentally exchange two slips. Maybe there is someone in Canada who ordered a full panel kit and is now explaining to Canadian customs why Lian Li put value of only 145 Swedish Krone on the customs declaration.

Has anyone ever tried to put a small rectangular window on the gpu area? seems like a cool way to see your gtx graphics card.. Anyone know who can do the job with quality and finesse? Or maybe ncase can add that as an optional side panel?

Whenever someone says "window" in regards to this case, only one comes to mind... and this is not mine, but I do remember seeing this on OCN:

just some info

In my build I'm using a seasonic x series 650w PSU, which is 150mm long.
I decided my 750ti was too loud at idle and bought an Alpenföhn Peter 2 to shut it up.
it fits on the card and in the case.
it fits under the psu fine, and theres room for a slim fan between it and the gpu/ psu, and maybe some 20mm fans between it and the case floor.

However, since the cpu socket on my Gigabyte H77N-wifi is so close to the PCI slot im changing to a P8Z77-I Deluxe so my Noctua U9B-SE2 doesnt interfere with the mounting nuts on the gpu cooler.

Oh i have seen that already, but in order for you to have that kind of window you must not use the radiator/hdd bracket on the side of the case, I was thinking about just a small rectangular window so that the "geforce" logo on the card can be seen. But with regards to quality and finesse that seems to be a nice window job.

That's a clever combination of parts. Would that cooler fit on a GTX 970? I think the bare PCB for some of the cards is shorter than the retail cooler, so the longer ATX PS would still fit. Would slim fans on that cooler be enough to cool a 970?

I was thinking of trying something like this on my M1 by either cutting an oval window in the below the fan grills or by simply replacing that of the case with a sheet of glass and adding magnets around the edges. If I get around to doing this I'll post some pictures! The case itself is so beautiful that I'm hesitant to change anything!

I think it should, iirc people are using 670 water blocks on 970's.
You'll just need to make sure the heatpipes won't run into anything (I had this issue with the deepcool v6000).

I can't say for sure, but its rated on the website for a 290x with normal fans which I think has a tdp of ~220w vs the 970's ~150w so I think it would be fine.

...
I've never looked at how that Alpenfohn cooler would fit in the case, but it seems to do so perfectly. Looks like a good option for those wanting to use an ATX PSU while still having a large GPU cooler. Very nice.

FML... After waiting a month and paying a premium ($255) the package finally arrives. Box wasn't even damaged I couldn't believe it! (I have terrible luck with postal service package damage in the past) Then I open it up and I saw silver... ewww. I went from super stoked to super mad instantly :(

Just double checked my order receipt in my email to verify I ordered Black + Optical drive slot, so someone got them mixed up during shipping
