Dragon Age III: Inquisition announced!!!!

I was able to get all the doors in the first elemental door as soon as I unlocked the oasis, I have also now managed to get 2nd door, but dont have enough shards to do all the 3rd element yet.

Yeah, you can open one on your first trip but you won't be able to open all 3 until you find every shard in the game.
You'll think you're getting pretty close and then you realize that the last set of shards requires you to do something that's typically recommended for those who are at least level 18, too. IMO, if you can do that (I won't spoil it) - the Oasis reward doesn't mean much.

This game runs like crap and doesn't even look that good. I'm getting similar numbers in FC4 which is infinitely more impressive looking.

If the next Mass Effect is similar, I'd be really happy about that. One of the things that DOI does so well is what Mass Effect always did so poorly - scope. With Mass Effect you're going all over the universe and exploring different planets...by visiting a single building on them. It's hard to really feel the expanses of the universe that way. However if they even let you explore areas the size of the Hissing Wastes or Hinterlands, mission accomplished.

DAI has scope, but it's lost the tightness of plot and pacing because of it. And I'm not sure if it's the characters themselves, how f'ing far apart everyone is in skyhold, or what, but I'm seriously uninterested in all my companions, which kind of sucks. Think I'm getting fairly close to the end, but I don't feel the things I do or choices I make (which also don't seem to occur all that often) have any kind of real impact in this game, which is totally different from the other games. Even DA2, which while a bust, I really liked their idea of how time advanced, you rose up in the world, etc. Haven > Skyhold was cool, but really seemed to then get stale pretty quick. Choosing templars over mages, for example, feel like made no real difference at all. Choosing templars over mages in DA2 (admittedly, it was the end) made a huge difference.

Hmmm no problem here running @ 4k.

This games graphics blows my mind. Some of the area's are just breath taking.

Everything is glass smooth for me also. Great game and looks awesome.

Something is wrong on your rig. I'm running a comparable system to you and I get 50+ avg FPS even in the most intense scenes. Either your hard is throttling due to heat or something else is going on.

Really? We have damn near the same specs, and my framerate is all over the place.

Yap. Usually in 4k I had everything max, no MSAA on. Framerate was between 40-60fps depending on area.

If I ran it at 1440p @ 60hz. I would use 4xMSAA. same as 4k around 40-60dps depending on the area.

For me If I ran at 1440p @ 60hz with 2xMSAA I would usually stay at 60fps.

Just beat the game with about 78 hours played. Great game....Loved the spoiler at the end.

AND OMG *****SEMI SPOILER***** Cannot believe someone is back from Original DA. That was a nice shock!

Now I will need every ounce of self control to keep up my slow pace and not rush to the end just to see who is back :D

still waiting for a patch to fix the first patch, because of that I am playing the game offline to avoid the first patch.

Ok. After spending close to 30 hours on my DW Rogue I'm done getting destroyed by AOE attacks and the AI cannot effectively control a stealth rogue without it dying.

Honestly I think the engine simply does better with ranged attacks than up close. I'm hopeful that ME4 will fair better with frostbite.

Having said that I have enjoyed DAI immensely but only with ranged characters.

The best way I found to save your DW Rogue is to use barrier properly on them, have at least one dagger with +1% Heal per hit and the other is best to have a hit gives +X guard type dagger, along with regen potions. You have to micro manage, save barrier till their low (30%-40%), then cast barrier on the rogue, either tell them to drink a regen potion which last a decent amount of time or see if they can attack enough for that dagger to leech enough HP back. With the exception of a few Dragons (electrical are the worst), I didn't have that much trouble keeping them alive. I think the most important part of the fight was micromanaging the potion use. If you let the AI deal with it they waste a lot.

I didn't necessarily like how they handled the ball, but the idea behind it was kind of cool. It was a nice break from the rest of the game and the graphics were nice.
IMO, the worst thing about it is that they encourage you sneak around and explore all while giving you a weird false time limit. I did notice that with the dinner bells - just save and reload the game. That seems to reset the timing for the bells so you can look around a bit more. None of the collectible items were truly essential, although I believe there were 1 or 2 Amulets of Power, which give your team permanent stat boosts. Once you hit level 18 or so, those start to be the only items worth grabbing anyway.

Is it me or is gold basically useless in this game?

I don't mean literally completely useless as it's required to purchase (for a measly 345g) respec amulet, but I am level 15 and have over 22k gold and it just sits there.

I finished the game with around 40K and I bought a number of schematics and gear I didn't even use.

Crafting in the game is freaking terrible and I only ever made one good item that I used end game (a bow for Sera). I played the 99.999% of game without ever using anything other than the normal Healing Potions as well. Maybe you need them on Nightmare difficulty?

There are some items along the way that are worth buying, but not a ton of them. I bought a lot more stuff early in the game than late. It seems like schematic drops are somewhat random, so I guess if the game screws you over you can always buy them or buy comparable items.
One of the best uses for your money are the books in your castle that give you XP and influence.

Didn't know there was a book vendor. Where can I find that vendor?

It's actually directly across from your other vendors. The one that mostly sells junk along with an overpriced 2-hander and bow. There's a staircase leading up right beside it.
I didn't notice it until later in the game, so it might have unlocked after a quest or table mission.
I don't think the book vendor sells anything but books, and you can find the descriptions for what each one does beside them.

yea, I don't think the books "do" anything aside from allowing you to convert coin to influence which lets you get "perks" - which are not necessarily very useful

Yeah, I know it's Kotaku.

Is this accurate at all? I'm leaning towards buying this.

I've put in about 45 hours and sans a few design choices and bugs I feel like I've already got my money's worth. Stay away from the bioware forums. It's a toxic neck beard environment full of impossible to please whiners.

Sure this game has bugs but in the time I have spent with the game I have had zero game breaking issues but I have to admit Templar quest choice is garbage. I choose the mages because it's simply a better story.

I'm 80 hours in and it has been fantastic even with a bug every now and then. I enjoy it so much I tend to explore every nook and cranny. It makes me wonder though... Why the fascination with dead people, wine, and cheese :p.

I was skeptical at first, but it's definitely worth the buy. Make sure your hardware is up to snuff though.

^^ Good deal.

I remember the Bioware forums back when the Mass Effect 3 ending issue first showed up. *whistles*

It would be nice to have more than 250 save slots and a chest.

That would be nice but not game breaking for me. Personally I'm impressed what they did with an engine built for FPS games. I look forward to another DA game based on this engine.

I am surprised regarding the praise this game gets in a PC Forum. It is at best a good "Console action RPG". If you go in expecting that then it is enjoyable. But a tactical RPG it is not. Nor is it GOTY material.

"in your opinion"

I think a lot of the praise comes from the fact that DA:O set the bar pretty high, and DA2 was considered by most lovers of DA:O to be so far below that bar as to be buried.

Taking that into consideration, anything that was closer to DA:O (as DA:I is), was going to get looked at with rose tinted lenses to some degree, simply because it "wasnt DA2" all over again.

That said, DA:I has problems, and for some people, the pluses dont outweigh those minuses. I've found the crafting and gathering parts to be far too grindy and MMO-ish. Some of the side missions were fun, others were just massive time sinks, for no real gain. The AI for the party is on a level bordering retarded, and the camera is locked down as if my PC were a console incapable of showing more than a few things at a time.

Again, it comes down to what you as a player find enjoyable. I still replay DA:O to this day, and have played it to completion more than 20 times since it launched, but if I ever do complete DA:I, I honestly, dont see myself ever playing through it again. The story isnt even drawing me in like a good book that I'd want to re-read.

If not for camera hacks and other unsupported tweaks, I'd likely never finish it even once.

I'm nearly at the end of the game & it keeps CTDing in DX11 & Mantle... I guess I'll go play something for a while until they do a better job at patching.
