So according to PCPer it has DP1.2a Plus, yet is not mentioned by AMD in their list of FreeSync monitors. In any case, I'm glad we're officially done with TN panels.
 
so, when do we expect this monitor (or monitors advertised @ CES 2015 to be out \ available for purchase?)

I think most new monitors are coming out in March. I don't think Asus has yet given a date for this model.
 
Any monitor that supports DP1.2a with the optional Adaptive Sync or DP1.3 should also support FreeSync. So I'm guessing the reason why it wasn't listed by AMD is that ASUS didn't pay AMD for advertising.
 
So many awesome (-sounding) monitors coming out right now it's a struggle to keep up. Wish more specific information was known about the exact panels used. I hope we don't have to wait till March for reviews, even though the monitors themselves aren't expected to go on sale till then

Or it is DP1.2a compliant, but omits Adaptive Sync. Adaptive Sync is a purely optional part of the specification.
 
So great to see these kinda monitors finally arriving. I hope to see a more affordable 1080p 24" variant soon though. Isn't there any 1080p IPS 120Hz panel announced yet?
 
Wonder if they will ruin this with the same grainy matte coating as the PG278Q.

I seen couple of times people saying that "grainy matte coating" but, i dont think i understand what exactly that means.

Is it same panel (coating) as i am seeing on BP3201PH?

The Swift is still a fantastic monitor and I don't see any mention of G Sync + ULMB on this model. Is having wider viewing angles really worth giving up those up for?:confused:

Personally I don't care about ULMB. But viewing angles and color mean enough to me to dump the Swift and fall back to my Dell UP3214Q for now. I'll be all over an IPS GSYNC display.

I like the Swift for gaming but I I have to run Monitor Calibration Wizard to force a color profile for the Windows desktop/apps (MCW doesn't help for most games) as color and gamma are so out of whack. And that's after calibration.

Also, due to TN viewing angles running the Swift in portrait is not an option. I'd like to try NVIDIA surround in portrait with three monitors.
 
Please please please let it be FreeSync.... and GLOSSY. If so it will be an instant day 1 buy for me.

Ditto. For the love of god Asus please don't ruin these monitors by covering them up with the same grainy crap used on the PG278Q!

wow.. im glad I didnt get a 2715 to be honest. time to see what comes out this year and replace my 2713hm with a higher refresh rate IPS monitor. What an exciting time... I refused to get the swift because its TN.. the IPS colors are just so nice.
 
Many are reporting that this monitor will support adaptive refresh rates but doesn't specifically say AMD's Freesync...weird. Anyways if it does support freesync then I guess it's time to replace my 780 with a 390x once I get this to replace my 248QE:D
 
You might get some slightly washed out colors on matte coating, but glossy is just too reflective. I have one of those korean monitors and frankly, day or night, the reflections are just too high that I can see myself in the monitor anytime of the day! It is even worse when you have a keyboard and mouse that emit lights!

Also, why IPS for gaming? Wouldn't higher contrast and blacks of va be way more beneficial than wider viewing angles?

At this this point it seems like IPS is just another marketing gimmick.

Really? I used to have a glossy Catleap and I was never bothered by any reflections. Glossy is actually one of the things that I now miss when I replaced the catleap with my 590D after I broke it.:(

I use the original swift day-to-day and the colors are worlds apart from even my girlfriend's Qnix.

Let alone a quality IPS panel.

They made this thing for a reason. Back when the ROG Swift was originally announced there was a HUGE share of potential buyers that refused to give it a go just because it is a TN panel.

Asus knows what they are doing, and IPS is most certainly not a "marketing gimmick"

There are around 5 different matte coatings with varying thickness; the thicker the coating the more obvious grain/haze/sparkle becomes when viewing white and light colours. Monitors with high ppi and the same matte coating as lower resolutions are also worse off (example Dell U2711 @1440p vs. Dell U2412 @1200p. They use the same coating but the U2711 looks worse).

Here's a picture taken with a digital microscope.

A.) Glossy OLED
B.) Matte LCD with a strong coating
C.) Glossy LCD

LG makes the lightest matte coating now. Notice how much clearer the NEC EA304WMi looks compared to the Asus PG278Q. Source: Asus PG278Q Review by =DEAD=. The LG 31UM97 uses the same coating as the NEC, a coating which has been classified as semi-glossy, even though it is technically a matte coating. Only TV's and a few passive 3D IPS panels released a few years ago use true semi-glossy coatings.

And contrast and black levels on my va TV are worlds apart even from what I've seen on my quality TN.

But are better color accuracy and viewing angles really more desired for video games than significantly better contrast and blacks?

Yes, They're worlds more popular.

Something like the 34UM95 was vastly more popular than the 32 inch 1440p Benq.

The TN hate has a lot of hallmarks to a classic cirlejerk, to use a reddit term.

TN panels have a wide variety of quality and the best ones are certainly pretty good, at least if you look at them head-on. The ROG Swift had very good uniformity and more than decent color reproduction. The people in this forum are a niche of a niche(which is why I read this place because I learn stuff every day). But small, tight-knit places do have a habit of developing circle-jerking that just self-perpetuates without thought and by reflex.

As for a gaming monitor, the most important is always speed and lag, everything else is secondary. That's why TN continues to reign supreme. I wouldn't mind seeing IPS displays being at or at least very close to TN in terms of speed. But until we do, let's not kid ourselves what matters.

I feel that way regarding the AG hate you can see around here. (which is not to say I don't notice the graininess/sparkling on my Swift or my previous IPS panel)

I think you have a decent point. A lot of people buy IPS/VA and then complain about the glow and QA/BLB in IPS panels and the gamma shift in VA, when they're simply sitting too close or have the brightness cranked too high. Sitting 3ft away and using 90-120 nits brightness eliminates most of these issues. Really major bleed, like some of the worst 34UM95s, is still going to be visible though.

On the flip side, TN is more suited to sitting close to the display and it's biggest issues come to light when you back off.

99% of the planet isn't good enough at games for 1ms versus 5ms to matter. People really overestimate their own speed when it comes to this stuff. Color shift on TN panels is pretty disastrous--even on the ROG Swift. If you slouch, lean back, or do anything to change your vertical position relative to the monitor, you will see color shift. It is shitty.
