Steam 2014 Winter sale is here! runs from December 18th to January 2nd.

Picked up Tomb Raider: Pistol Burst, Tomb Raider: Pistol Silencer, Tomb Raider: Animal Instinct, Tomb Raider: Headshot Reticule, and Tomb Raider: Agility Skill for a total of 95 cents. All were content that I was missing from Tomb Raider. Now, to actually PLAY Tomb Raider.

spent $0.00 so far. I hate how 99.99999% of the games that steam puts on sale are independent games.

You really should give indie games a try, over the last couple years over half the games I've bought have been indie games, and many have been better than many AAA titles over the years.

To name just a few:
FTL
Don't Starve
Papers Please
The Stanley Parable

I could go on, but instead I'll just say if you ingore indie titles you are truely missing out on some of the best games around.

Now with that said I do wish Steam would stop having so many early access games on the daily deals, personally I would like to see them limited to the community choice deals.

Bought this war of mine. What a great game. I played nice on my first try and didnt survived long. Now im trying to be an asshole , but its easier said than done.

Not sure If I'm sold after buying Divinity OS I suppose I just don't know what the hell I'm doing type of think at least the roaming around isn't turn based that would suck .LIke in other turned based games you move a few inches then need to take a turn.

I tried to make that same argument a year or so ago during a previous Steam sale and was basically told that 99% of indie games were second-rate trash not worthy of your time. Some people are ignorant and can't accept that a game can be fun if it doesn't have the EA/Ubisoft/etc. label on it.

I acknowledged the fact that of course, not all indie games are great or better than their big-name counterparts but to blanket label them all as sub-par is ignorant and narrow-minded. Oh well, their loss. People that think that way can keep paying top dollar for the buggy, formulaic shovelware that some of the big devs are cranking out these days. Sheeple will be sheeple, I guess.

Only thing I've gotten is Shadow Run : Director's, that's it.

Not interested in the game but man these steam trailers are amazing. Fun stuff.

Yeah thats part of what drew me into purchasing the game in the first place. I understand not everyone is into this type of game but it sure is funny.

Up until a year or two ago I never gave indie games a second look either, but after trying a couple, FTL of them I found that they can be awesome and are a steal when you consider their lower price points.

Ironically, most of the ones I've played not only cost a fraction of what a AAA title will, but they also provided far more hours of gameplay and tend to provide greater replayability.

The scales have tipped so greatly that indie games have a higher quality than AAA mainstream bs. It's not that the indie games are so amazing, it's that AAA games suck so bad that the indie's are legendary by comparison.

Arma III is up for $29.99 (only mentioning since several have asked)

I'm missing Itsy, Sage, and Silver if anyone has extras please let me know.

Picked up The Witcher II: Enhanced Edition for $2.99 just now....

Oh and also Two Worlds II for myself and a copy gifted to my little brother....

Yeah picked up the Witcher too I had the UBI soft version but the patches were huge for the game and it got lost with a new Windows 8.1 install.
Never finished the game but it was pretty awesome as far as I got.

Do it! I finally installed it from the backlog and it's a great game, I enjoyed it.

I don't think Wasteland is going to go any lower than it is now. Not to worry. It'll go down in base price by the time it's up again next sale. I've got a log enough already. I am very much looking forward to it, but can always afford to wait.

Damn right. I haven't even started the first Witcher and I still bought Witcher 2 any way.

yeah I pulled the trigger on that for 3 bux. had to lol at this review:

Glorious boobs, bloody action, eyes get poked out, people get burned alive, murders, drinking, tattoos, demon-sex, softcore porn "romance" scenes, brothels, dice playing, arm wrestling, fist fights...this game has everything!

Yeah, I have no clue either, but I would imagine that right after the deals changed they would get slammed with them, I just have no clue as to how many resources they would demand.

After rereading my original response I wanted to say I wasn't trying to be harsh, I just wasn't, and still am not, sure if it would be worth the time, effort and resources that would be needed (but for all I know it could be a simple plugu in and us next to no resources.

I will say that Steam has come a long way with dealing with these sales, just a couple years ago it would take multiple attempts to load the store, and downloads slowed to a crawl, but this sale I've never failed to load the store and Shadows of Mordor downloaded full speed for me.
No offense taken. I was a little frustrated that I just barely (probably within seconds) missed out on that $4 N4S game. I had never cut it that close before on a Steam sale, intentionally or not. (As I mentioned, it was unintentional that I cut it so close and lost by seconds.)

Yeah, the pinball tables are F2P, but you buy the tables separately. They're sold the same way on PSN (and I assume on Live as well), so it's not a Steam thing.
Oh, I didn't know . I see, so they're hoping people buy these fancy skins/tables. I didn't buy any of them yet. I would've bought a Back to the Future one one the spot if it was available. : \ I think the download was something like 3.5 GB, which is a lot for a pinball game! Advertisement video looks pretty, but I haven't played it yet.

so the question is, should i play TW2, TW1 & 2, or just wait for TW3.

Witcher 1 gameplay was terrible. I started but gave up. Witcher 2 was fantastic all around, I played through it twice. I'm really looking forward to witcher 3

I'm not normally into military-esque games but Arma 3 looks pretty cool... I like open world sandbox types... add guns and stuff to blow up. hmmmmm

Witcher 2 for 3 bucks is a no brainer.

That's what I thought when I got 1 and 2 for $7.50 over a year ago. Of course I have yet to install them. For this price I might make another steam account and fire up another backlog!

Highly unlikely IMO that you've been playing anything better than witcher 2

That's probably true. Bioshock Infinite, Brothers, Battleblock Theater, XCOM EU, and Guacamelee in recent months. I fear the Witcher series would take too much time to beat.

yeah I pulled the trigger on that for 3 bux. had to lol at this review:

If you want it even cheaper, games for xbox live gold has the Witcher 2 for free on the Xbox 360 second half of January.

I absolutely love The Witcher 2, haven't played 1 yet.

It's also worth pointing out, that anyone who might be interested in The Witcher 3 should buy 1 & 2 now as each knock 5% off the pre-order price for The Wild Hunt, so for $4.50 you get $6 extra off The Witcher 3, and you get the first two games as well.

I liked Witcher 1 a lot. I have started Witcher 2 twice now and haven't been able to get into it. It gets such high praise I know I must give it a shot again.

Witcher 2 is worth a full $60. Even if you don't ever play it. The reason is the developers. CD Projeckt RED are hands down bar none the best, most pro-consumer old school video game developer out there today.

Witcher 1: at launch, solid 7. But had some issues with sound, some weird bugs, balance issues, etc. CD Projeckt RED put out patches for MONTHS afterwards making sure everything was good. redid the entire dialogue in like 10 languages. Fixed all the bugs, balance issues, etc. Put out some new content (enhanced edition), gave everybody that had already purchased the original game the free upgrade, no questions asked, out of the blue.

Witcher 2: Game Launch: 10/10. top 10 RPGs on all time. In many lists for Top 10 GAMES of all time, period. Made for PC first and foremost. Pushing the boundaries of GFX cards and DX. Some store got the preorder rights bonuses for it, the second their contract expired, CD Projeckt Red gave all of the players in the entire world, no matter what/when they bought Witcher 2, all the DLC for free. CD Projeckt RED continued to put out patches to fix miscellaneous bugs for a couple months. A tight gaming experience got even tighter and better. About a year after the PC release, they released the game for Xbox 360. The X360 version had about 8-10 hours of extra gameplay compared to the originally PC release. Upon x360 release, CD Projeckt RED updated all versions of Witcher 2 to the enhanced edition for free. The company that made a 70 hour game, gave everybody another 10 hours regardless of how they purchased it. Fucking incredible.

Did I mention, no DRM?

CD Projeckt RED fucking rock.

Congratulations, you've just moved another sale for them. :)

Damn you. I just bought two copies for two of my cousins because of your post. I hope you're happy!

:D

Yeah, I had hoped for a large cut as well, although honestly I was sort of surprised at it was cut as much as it was.

Last night I broke down and picked it up from G2A for $21

Got the steam key through Amazon awhile back for $20 :D.

I own both The Witcher 1 & 2 and can't get more than a couple of hours into either. I've restarted them multiple times but just can't get into them. Geralt is a boring character (his voice is relentlessly monotone no matter what is happening - it reminds me of Liam Neeson in the stand up comedian skit with Ricky Gervais), the story doesn't make me want to care about the supporting cast, and the combat is clunky at best. Lots of people seems to like it though so it's worth checking out when it's cheap.

So far I've bought Banished and Shadowrun: Dragonfall

Banished is ok. It was interesting for the first night or two that I had it but I probably won't pick it back up. The survival aspect of it is cool but the gameplay lacks direction IMO. The only thing that there is to do after you've built your first town is work on achievements most of which will require you to start new towns specifically to get them. It's pretty monotonous to me since there are only a handful of buildings and every town starts off with basically the same build order.

Shadowrun has sucked up 19 hours of my life in 2 days. The story is interesting, your dialogue choices and actions can really effect the story, and the character building is fun because of how it affects what you can do in the game. It's the best $7 I've spent all year.

I'm still waiting for Sunless Sea to show up on a flash sale. :|

I look forward to playing it. Now that I have a system that doesn't crash when I'm playing games, and is capable of 1080p gaming, I'm working through my backlog that has accumulated over the past few years. The hard part is picking out which old games to play. It feels like this xkcd cartoon.

I know, I have a i7-4790K and a Gigabyte 980 overclocked card, yet I'm currently playing the 5yo game Borderlands for the second time through as Brick. The first time, in 2011, was as Lillith. Go figure.

CD Projeckt RED fucking rock.
So, in other words, it what Electronic Arts and Ubisoft should be.

Yes, I have the Witcher 1 and 2. Unplayed.
