34" 21:9 UltraWide Displays (3440x1440) - LG UM95/UM65 & Dell U3415W

people need to stop posting over exposed pictures of their monitors asking for us to decide whether or not they are happy.

Only YOU can decide if you like your monitor.

Do I need to adjust the setting on my monitor more or is that terrible backlight bleed?

Honestly the picture is overexposed and MOST of what i can see there is IPS glow, not back light bleed. It is hard to say overall with the quality of the shot though.

taking a picture and asking other people what they think is bullshit. Are you enjoying the monitor? Are you distracted by the colors when viewing content? That is the only real thing that matters.

Here let me show you this picture...and its not even close to what it actually looks like in person...but what do you think?

LamiaFusion, is that what your monitor looks like in person? I mean, I know it isn't...but that is why you are getting these kind of replies. If you are going to take a picture..at least make sure it looks like what you actually see.

Picked up the Dell 34" today and have been playing around with it. I'm pretty happy with the monitor overall but unfortunately the kicker really is the bleed issue.

As you can see, its quite bad. It's not *quite* as bad as this but in dark scenes it really stands out.

I'll be talking to Dell in the New Year to see what my options are.

Yeah its with the machine not connected to anything. It seems toauto adjust brightness when dark so its not nearly as bad as that, but it still seems pretty bad though. One of the other guys who got one reckons it's not as bad as mine.

The game is Crusader Kings 2. I just wanted to demonstrate that it actually looks alright on the ultrawides, as it was one the reasons I was hesitatant to move off my Dell 3011.

Overall I think it's a better monitor than my 30", particularly for gaming. I'm just not that happy about the bleed - it really seems the luck of the draw.

It looks like it's either really overexposed, or you have a hung program window on the right side there.

I checked out the linus video. I think Wally's shot is overexposed, but Linus isn't using a purely black screen either. It looks like has has bleed in the lower left that the taskbar is helping hide. It's hard to say whether he's got it in the upper left, but definitely so in the upper right.

Watching the rest of his video, it looks like lighting hides even BLB of this level. I can understand someone being unhappy with it, but I don't game in a dark room.

I actually did play Amnesia in a dark room. I use 5.1 surround though. I think that's the game you're referring to. It's not par for the course for me though. I think the only other game I did that with was the first FEAR.

Dead Space didn't really get to me except the needle in the eye scene.

Getting one of these with zero bleed seems pretty difficult though. The 32" 4k I received last night looks a lot better in dark scenes.

I just got it last night, so I need a few more days to really put it through it's paces. Last night I tried Crysis 2 at both 4k and 1080, and WoW at 4k. I'm using a single 980 at 1500/7800.

Only screenshot I have is shortly after logging on in WoW.

Crysis 2 is playable with AA off and post-processing turned down. I'll try 3 this weekend, and dragonageinquisition who's been frequenting around here gave me a config to use for that.

As for Crysis 2 1080p, there wasn't any significant smearing or ghosting. I was surprised with some of the ragging I've seen of running a lower resolution on a 4k display. It doesn't look any different than a 32" 1080p TV to me.

I don't play multiplayer shooters like BF4 or CS:GO.

I'll try and get some better shots - I think it is overexposed as well (sorry guys, I'm using a RX100 and was just using the automatic snap to get the photos up). It doesn't look that bad in person.

The bleed is still worse than my Dell 3011 (A06) panel though, which is a real pity. As I play a few dark games I'll be looking to swap out in the new year, and if the replacement isn't good either I'll be going with the Phillips 4k

I tried this monitor for a week or so and returned it for a 16:9 monitor. Specifically the Samsung S32D850T. I liked the monitor and the colors, but I found myself having to scroll twice as much as my Dell U3011. I don't game as much as a I used to, so the U3011 monitor was more suited to my taste since I surf and watch movies all of the time. The 34Um95 is a good monitor, no doubt, but for my purposes it was not the monitor for me. The vertical height is important to me and I was constantly having to mess with the aspect ratio to find the best fit when watching a movie. I even found myself having to reduce the size of the movie to fit the screen since it was too big most of the time. Very aggravating. If they increased the vertical size by 2" or 3" inches the it would be perfect.

OK so I picked one of these up and it worked fine for the first day. I had it paired with another monitor, both over display port. Then i disabled the LG in windows resolution settings, and now I can't get it to detect in windows at all. The monitor can detect when i'm in bios and display the bios, but once i'm in windows it just disappears. Anyone have any ideas? Do I need to just settle for hdmi?...

Wish Dell would have done a flat one...

Want one with the option of endless returns until they stop shodding me with quality, as I tend to do on their Ultrasharp line.

Don't want to try LG for the fact it will be a lot more hassle :/

Is the Dell U3415W actually for sale anywhere in the US yet? Still not seeing it on their site.

Waiting for tests on the :

- Samsung SE970C
SE790C_001_FrontMain_Black1-890x543.jpg

- Philips BDM3470up
philips-bdm3470-2014-03-450x412.jpg

Ps :
LG 34um95 : too many problems.
LG 34UC97 : why not... seems to be better than the 95 ( corrections of problems )
LG 34UM94-P : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4JLttZi1zw
Dell U3415W : need more tests and reviews.

This is where I am as well. I loved the idea of 21:9 but then the thought of how short they are vertically gave me pause, and now having seen a 34" in person, I am definitely much more oriented towards a 40" 4k 16:9 for my next. Hopefully the next step up to 37" or 39" 21:9s happens before too long. I think these are great for consumers and I hope folks are happy with them.

Just placed an order for the Dell U3415W with Dell Malaysia. I was pleasantly surprised when the sales rep told me over the phone that it costs only 3499 MYR. That's about 1000USD for you guys across the pond :) or about 300USD less than what's quoted on the Dell Hong Kong website. FYI the LG 34" curved sells for 5500MYR here so it looks like I got a good bargain!

in the US, we get mailed/emailed these coupons for 20% off, do you [or anyone that get those] and are able to apply it for the Dell U3415W? its for dell electronics and accessories, there are a few exclusions but i dont think it mentions this monitor

I keep seeing that referenced but where do you actually sign up for the dell coupon mailers?

Let's hope Samsung manages to make a panel without significant backlight bleed, if i have to do a lottery i like to maximize my chances. I'm a bit worried about that price though, i'd like to keep it below or as close as possible to 1k euro's.

Samsung = Va panel. ( less subject to backlight bleed ) but in the opposite side of the coin, suffers from gamma shift... We will see with tests ;-)

I hope we will get soon information on the 34" philips BDM3470UP as well.

Been Using the AOC u3477pqu on a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 with Display Port / Windows 8.1

The Issues I've been having are Similar to what some people experienced with their LG Monitors.

#1 -- When First starting the Monitor it turned on for a few seconds ....suddenly made a POP sound and Shut off. I then had to unplug the power cable & plug it back on for it to work again.

#2 --- Second Issue once it started working again....I put the computer AND the monitor into sleep mode. I then leave it for a few hours. Then waking it up from sleep mode the Monitor stays on for 10 seconds ( i can move the mouse etc )...Then POP shuts off....and i have to unplug / replug for it to work.

#3 -- In Power Options In windows, If I set the Setting To Turn off the display ( sleep ) To 5min for example....The screen wont ever fall asleep. It will just continuously turn on and off every 5min (What ever interval it was set to ).

I have Installed the Drivers on the disk Provided with the AOC Monitor.
I have also installed GeForce 344.80 Beta Drivers.
I ALSO Disabled Display Port 1.2 in the OSD settings and switched to 1.1 .

At this moment I am not Experiecing the POP issues after these changes.
But I still cannot put the Monitor to sleep. ( When I don't want the computer to sleep ).

Plus I cannot Switch to HDMI 2.0 As I believe there are no HDMI 2.0 Ports On AOC.

Anyone Have Similar Issues / Ways to Revolve this sleep Problem While still using DP?

Drivers seem good.

From what I read on forums :

- To everyone using the default cable - GET A NEW ONE!

Hummm So even for the AOC The default DisplayPort Cable may be the culprit for the Sleeping Issues?

I will try to get a new cable when I have a chance then.

Anyone else find the blinking (when the monitor goes to sleep) annoying? There doesn't seem to be an option to disable it and I really don't want to tinker with the bulb. Any options out there other than using black out tape?

Been thinking about going from 1920x1200 TN-panel to 27" IPS but decided against it since it wasnt much of a upgrade screen estate wise.
Same with the lesser ultra wide options that would be a step down to 1080.

Now that I saw this thread im eagerly waiting to read reviews once the Dell and others gets released.

Will mostly upgrade due to work but wonder if a GTX970 is enough for lighter gaming like WoW, Elite:Dangerous etc? Ive lost interest in FPS so it doesnt matter if BF4 would give the GPU a hard time.

Is anyone else concerned at all with the upcoming inclusions of freesync monitors in 2015, that investing so much in a monitor now is potentially an unwise idea? I'm super keen on a dell u3415w but the above thought is holding me back. Birthday coming up soon and feeling the need to treat myself :)

I don't do TN panels, so no, this doesn't worry me. I'll use one of the UltraWide panels for a couple years and then upgrade when they have VA/IPS G-Sync panels in 21:9 running at 144hz.

If you keep waiting for the "next big thing", you're never going to buy a new monitor. Buy now, enjoy now, upgrade later when you feel it's necessary.

Sooo... After 176 pages.. which one should I buy? I COULD afford the curved 34UC97/34UC87 (~1100€), but the non-curved 34UM95 costs "only" ~735€.

Are all problems with the non-curved solved by now?
And is the curve worth 365€ (444$) extra? (or if the non-curved has still problems, but the curved has none)
I can't compare the two versions, because they are only in stock online. I saw a curved TV once, but you can't really compare that.

I think the curved would be nice, and I could afford it...but I just can't justify the price. I think it is up to you if that kind of extra money is no big deal or not and weigh it against that. To me: It's nice, but not nice enough for the situation I am in. If I was a millionaire, I would get it ;)
