25 Invisible Benefits of Gaming While Male

What's even more ridiculous than the content is the fact that it's paired with effeminate men who have never even seen a pussy, nor ever will in real life.

So I go to this restaurant and there is this waitress wearing a very revealing outfit and it is clearly making me uncomfortable. THEN the waitress proceeds to call me "honey" and "sweetie" while taking my order. I told her my name was not "honey" or "sweetie" and I would prefer that she did not address me in that manner. She replied with a "sure thing sugar" in a very condescending tone AS SHE TOUCHED MY SHOULDER! This clearly crossed the line, so I asked to speak to her manager about her unacceptable behavior. When the (female) manager arrived, she made light of my grievances and let her waitress off the hook when she should have been fired!

I was so traumatized by the incident that I moved out of my house and am taking donations. Please help.

Refused to add to the videos a view count. I am assuming it is a white knighting attempt by misguided male feminists. If I am wrong someone let me know, or don't. I don't guess it matters. They have attempted to change the face of gaming to match their politics on the down low for quite some time. Now we know, now some are resistant, and they don't like it. Meh...

Sounded like a bunch of art degrees with nothing better to do. I swear they'll never run out of equality things to crusade about as they make up issues that aren't even there.

I'm sure some of it is legit. But they speak in absolutes like these things always happen to women gamers. I haven't observed that to be the case.

As always, they are free to write games for women. I doubt I will buy them, but they are free to make them.

Do women actually believe they are the only ones who get harassed in the gaming social circles? Just joining an online game is an opening for harassment regardless of your gender, or race. People are just assholes online and only a moron would expect otherwise based on your gender.

What I feel that this is really about, is women are treated as special in the real world because dudes are trying to sleep with them. The second they go online they realize just how evil people are to each other and think it's just because they are women.

In b4 Azureth comments.....

I agree with former sentiment, people will be harassed no matter age/race/gender. Thats just how it is, and online its even worse, its a free-for-all. I am not saying that I have never heard it in games, but frankly, I do not have time to gender harass. There are plenty of women in CS:GO who have handed me my butt, so I never discredit their gender just because another girl comes on and doesn't do as good as the others, thats silly.

I hate identity politics with the burning fires of hell.

To the degree that there is a problem, it's a problem with individuals or groups of individuals. I don't harass or demean women in games. Anyone that does that is just pathetic.

If a member of a minority commits a crime, we're admonished not to become prejudiced against a group because of the actions of the individual. That's the right approach, but it applies to everyone.

I'm not going to accept responsibility for the behavior of other people - especially people I don't know and can't control or influence.

"Because it was written by a straight white man, this check list will likely be taken more seriously than if it had been written by virtually any female gamer".

Except that 1. How would I know who wrote it unless you told me, and 2. I can't take this list seriously no matter who wrote it.

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. I have a dream today!" - Dr. Martin Luther King

Misandrists one and all.

Hoo boy. Males don't get sexual abuse from women because they are men? Give over!

One of the points was that men can go to events and not get cat called at or advanced on...

I mean, really? Pretty sure that's what the majority of women want based on the way they dress. The ones who dress modestly probably get a lot less of that.

For two decades, gaming culture was attacked from the religious right. Now we've come full circle and are seeing it being attacked from the social-minded left.

What a strange time we live in. The only positive thing is that the endless outrage on the Internet is growing tiresome, it seems people are starting to tune out the shrill whining and moral posturing.

Also, I do love [H]. There are many Internet forums where this type of discussion would result in mass bannings of anyone who dared form an opinion in dissent.

For those who are not aware, this is a video on Youtube on the channel/user "FeministFrequency", known as the primary account of Anita Sarkeesian. For those who don't wish to give the channel any views but still want to participate in the discussion, here is what is written in the info box. There are links provided to text sources, including a transcript of the video and the link to a Polygon article on which it was based.

This video is based on the article "Playing with privilege: the invisible benefits of gaming while male" written by Tropes vs Women in Video Games producer Jonathan McIntosh. You can read the full article here: http://www.polygon.com/2014/4/23/5640...

Many women have courageously spoken out about how they experience alienation and harassment in gaming. Despite this fact, too many male gamers still dismiss the issue as "no big deal" and insist that there isn’t really a problem. One of the luxuries of being a member of a privileged group is that the benefits afforded often remain invisible. This blindness allows many men, even well meaning men, to remain blissfully unaware of what roughly half of all gamers experience on a fairly regular basis. With that in mind the following is a checklist of some of the concrete benefits that male gamers automatically receive simply for being male gamers.

Please note: This list is referring primarily to straight men who are not transgender but similar lists could be created for white, straight, cis, or able-bodied privilege and there would certainly be some overlap with the conditions identified in this video.

I shall comment on the video content later, however, just a couple of things to keep in mind by some of the comments so far. Satire and frustrated comments are just fine, but remember that ad hominems don't help; these people are claiming that "male gamers" are at best misguided and unaware of their privileged, insensitive ways and at worst hateful, immature, bigots. Don't make yourself into an example, especially of the latter - it will be ammunition and justification for their arguments.

Tell it like it be, brother!

It was written by the douchecanoe who produced "Tropes vs Women in Video Games" and produced by...dun dun dun...Anita Sarkeesian, the see you next Tuesday gender troll who sparked this whole boondoggle in the first place.

:D :D :D !!!!!!

This just needs a video response of the hidden benefits of being a women in gaming...

You know, shit like:

- Free in-game gifts or currency
- Help whenever you need it, with whatever you need it for!
- Attention when you're feeling lonely :(

Do women actually believe they are the only ones who get harassed in the gaming social circles? Just joining an online game is an opening for harassment regardless of your gender, or race. People are just assholes online and only a moron would expect otherwise based on your gender.

According to the video, yes, yes they do. And only a tiny, small percentage of men are ever emotionally hurt by bullies in games. ^o)

I watching a video a few years back about a girls pee wee soccer team playing in a boys league. One issue constantly brought up was that how the boys were meaner towards them and would play more physically than against other boys' teams, and were constantly saying how they needed to play less rough and play nicer. That was total BS. Obviously they never have watched boys play when there was a nerd, geek, dweeb, or whatever the current term is. Boys will be mean and play extremely rough against anyone they see shows weakness, that's just life.

And the same transfers over to video games. As a guy: Have a higher pitched voice? Be prepared to be called rude insults questioning your sexuality. Be too good at a game? Be prepared to be called rude insults questioning your sexuality. Be too bad at a game? Be prepared to be called rude insults questioning your sexuality. Playing against anyone who's in high school (or younger)? Be prepared to be called rude insults questioning your sexuality.

I'd probably agree that women get more abuse online than men. But, yes, some of it is their own fault. I honestly don't remember the last time I've played a game where someone comes in and says "Hi, I'm a guy", but I've seen that quite a few times with women. The same happens with sexual orientation and seeing people coming in announcing that they're gay. WTF do you think was going to be the outcome you morons?

Yes, people are rude, selfish, insincere, vile, etc. You play online, you're going to be harassed and bullied. Sure, while your gender does matter, it's vastly overplayed. As an experiment, why not try pretending to play the opposite gender, and I'm willing to bet, life on the other side is not going to be as pleasant as you think it is.

Great points.

There was a time when I wished there were more girls playing, I regret making that wish.

The majority of games were not made with the mindset of girls playing them, it's like girls wearing men's underwear and complaining about it.

Also multiplier is dominated by kids which make adult males look bad. Women need to realize who the aggressors are and focus their rage on these kids and stop blaming white adult males.

This deserves another quote. <3 Steve.

Just fucking yuck!

This guilt shit created by needy burdens has got to stop. I am sorry there are assholes out there that ask how big your tits are or say you can't game but just deal with it. Most services and games offer the great option to MUTE another player or players.

You don't see me creating a whiny, me, me, me, youtube video every time some 12 y/o gamer insinuates I am gay because he killed me or because I didn't win a match. We all put up with dickhead gamers with a little too much bravado. Just adapt and overcome. Its not that hard.

Gamers have two great options to not deal with assholes, mute and/or play with friends.

Minorities (color, sex, religion, etc) in any group will be singled out. That is human nature, so don't whine and bitch, kick some ass and show why you belong.

Hearing and dealing with these perpetual victim's who demand change to further suit their own self centered mental issues is getting tiresome.

The left's assault on free-speech and individuality...

Don't think for yourself, think like we do, or you're banished!

It's actually ironic how the left is now telling everyone how to think, how to talk, what to like, etc. when they rose to power fighting against the right doing the same thing.

I just ignore them and push back when necessary. Never apologize, never back down.

If you're an American male and had a decent upbringing, someone, at some point, told you to suck it up. Endure, fight back, show no pain, etc.

Men test each other by messing with each other to see who cowers and who hits back. Men respect other men that can take it and give it back when appropriate.

The SJWs imagine that there is one unified brotherhood of privileged, straight, white christian males conspiring against everyone else. (Patriarchy!)

Yeah, we review everything to make sure we stick it to as many minority groups as we can - right.

The best trick these people ever pulled off was was taking a dominant, retributive role in our culture while still successfully portraying themselves as outsiders and victims.

Bravo.

stalked and harassed?

I'm sorry -- but are all these women filling out their profiles with their real names, numbers, addresses, and facebook profiles? If they are... fucking stop.

I'm a regular ass male gamer -- and I've run into assholes online, I do this crazy thing called "mute" when there's someone acting like a dick.

It works amazingly well - i get to enjoy my game and not have to deal with any bullshit. As others have said, what's stopping women from making their own games?

If I as a straight male go into a gay bar, do I have a right to complain when I get swarmed by dudes offering to buy me drinks or suck my dick?

Last point - there are times when after a shit day at work you want to just fire up a video game, blow some people up, and talk some shit. Nothing serious is meant by it, but it's a great way to relieve some stress.

This whole GG issue is infuriating - I have stayed out of it because I don't trust them and I if I did speak out, no matter how civil, I would be seriously worried about the impact it could have on my professionally.

not this crap again. I watched, and couldn't help but think it was a list of 25 whipped chumps. Never fear though, my opinion doesn't matter because if I disagree then I am just part of the "problem"

My evidence may be anecdotal, but it is hard to ignore years of gaming with males and females alike. What I have found is that trolls will be trolls. I have played countless games online with my wife (a female). She sometimes gets harassed for being bad at a game, usually because she IS bad. Maybe she just has a thick skin from all the beatings I give her for burning my dinner.

/amidoingsexismright?

I really want to know when the extreme leftist SJWs began thinking that "cisgender" could be used as a derogative term. It's like they believe being heterosexual is a social wrong that needs to be "corrected."

Gender identity politics piss me off.

Post of the year!

Back when I was raiding with my guild in wow we had several ladies in the raid group and those who tried kept their spots, those who didn't got bumped just like a guy that wasn't any good. I don't remember any specific female hate socially either.

Games have nothing to do with this, it is society. Women may or may not be harassed and that depends on society. The world is full of freaks that can also ask me as a male to show x, y, z pic of my body for their plessure, what do I do? SAY NO and continue with my life.
