Far Cry 4 set in the Himalayas

Does anyone know of any sites that are selling the game keys for less than $60? I remember when Titanfall came out and keys were going for $20-25 less than retail on certain sites.

um...how about trying the forum you're currently posting in?

Played for a bit this evening...game seems like it runs pretty shit at times. Lots of stutter, even with no AA, and forget about using AA...stutter/lag like a bitch. This is only at 1080p, too.

can I go to a movie theater and ask to demo a movie and walk out before the end?

Actually I'm pretty sure most theaters will give you a refund if you walk out within X amount of time. Or at least, they used to...

There are a variety of quasi-reputable and foreign (legit) sites out there, but I suggest checking www.greenmangaming.com first. They're based in the UK, but if you're from the US they will route you to the NA titles. They typically have a discount voucher for 20% or more off on just about everything, all the time. If you create an account, you'll also get special vouchers in the 25-33% range that are limited time/limited use, in your email. Also, those with accounts can see the "VIP" section where they pick about 9-10 of the most popular titles and just plain sell them for cheaper without any vouchers needed. Most titles activate on Steam, but some like AC Unity, FarCry 4 etc... are direct activation on UPlay only. Also, its important to note that the standard voucher (at 20%) doesn't work on FarCry 4 or AC Unity - Ubisoft won't permit it. However, they have a copy in the VIP area (standard version, not gold unfortunately) that's like $40-something or other last I checked. Same with AC Unity.

However, as others have said, FarCry4 is one of those titles that is part of the current promo for Nvidia GPUs, so many here may be willling to sell or trade for a coupon, ultra cheap.

I think that's only if the movie theater had technical issues such as a damaged screen or projection issues...you can't just walk out because you don't like the movie and ask for a refund

Used to be able to in the early 2000's. If you left within the first 15 minutes or so you were entitled to a refund. I haven't been to a movie since then though. Before we signed our rights away in the Napster case to save Metallica, you used to be able to buy a CD and return it the next day if you didn't like it. The CD store would try to talk you into finding suitable music to preserve the sale. They would sell the used CD for cheap on a special rack like Gamestop does now. Otherwise you got no questions asked full refund.

Try asking for a refund on some music today.

Okay I think I found out what is causing my game to crash. I don't know if bad drivers or bad game or both. All I know is I get a driver crash with results in a game crash when I use any form of TXAA, whether 4x or 2x. I am using 4x MSAA right now and have been running smoothly for 2 straight hours. With TXAA I usually crash in about 30 minutes.

Are any of you guys playing ultrawide? 2560X1080? What kind of FPS are you guys getting? I am only seeing around 35-45fps with my signature rig. 2700k @ 48GHz, GTX 970 @ 1515MHz core/8000MHz mem, etc etc

I'm playing on 3440x1440 borderless with one 290x. On high I get around 60-70fps. I can't do fullscreen because of the horizontal FOV being broken if you play on fullscreen. The funny thing is everybody talking about pirate not being able to set FOV. Well, I got the retail and when I run borderless, I can't even adjust the FOV.

i'm getting around 55-60 fps with aa off and no triple buffering and a few things on high rest ultra on 3440X1440. I think i'll wait for a fix to get FOV without stretching and maybe better sli support. Borderless has no FOV and fullscreen with FOV stretches

OK. I may have to back off a few settings. The FPS noted above was with the game completely maxed out with TXAAx2.

i think geometry on high helps a lot with fps. the other stuff might not impact fps much. And people report stuttering in some areas due to bad multi core cpu usage

I also just switched to this monitor from a standard 1920x1080 last week. I wonder how big of a performance hit I am taking going to 2560x1080. Whatever it is, it was worth it. The ultrawide is a much more immersive experience.

From Ubi Support;

"We are pleased to say that we have been able to remedy the issue (identified in our Known Issues list yesterday) which caused some PC versions of Far Cry 4 to go directly to a black screen due to the presence of external USB devices. Some players have been able to temporarily fix this problem by disabling USB devices and certain drivers, but we realize this was in no way ideal.

For that reason, this Friday, November 21st, we’ll be releasing Patch 1.4.0 for PC that should remedy the problem and allow you, as a PC player to enjoy the game as normal.

Though Patch 1.4.0 will contain additional fixes on release, we wanted to let users know that the black screen issue has been tackled. An update containing the full list of fixes will be posted to the News Section of the Far Cry 4 page prior to the patch being released on Friday.

If you would like additional help, please click on the link to update this ticket.

Thank you for your patience."

...can I buy a game and play 4 hours and then decide to get a refund?..

With Origin you can, which is one of the few things they've done right with their service.

And if you really want to know my rationalization. Its simple. I Don't trust the large developers or publishers. They are known liars. They have a history of it. They need to win my trust. Until then, I will treat them as they treat me.

--------

Back to FC4, I highly suggest picking up the elephant riding perk early. Its good fun.

When is it crashing? On initial boot (before the logo videos?)

-Make sure the game is successfully writing/creating its profile files in your /mygames/farcry4/ folder.
-Whats your system specs? Have updated drivers?

Any solid fixes for the negative mouse acceleration yet, or the stuttering while driving? Perhaps I should find the patch notes..

If you run Surround or EyeFinity, like I do......the FOV slider in the game is disabled.
So I guess multimonitor gamers are like pirates?

I'm just waiting for Hayden over at flawless wide screen to fix all this crap.:D

Has anyone purchased running AMD hardware? I thoroughly enjoyed Far Cry 3, but got horrid performance issues once I moved my rig to a crossfire setup. Just wondering what performance is like for anyone running any AMD gpu('s)?

I hope to play a bit of it when I get home tonight. I'll let you know. Got an FX-6100 and a 7950.

So I played a bit last night. Everything as maxed as I could get it at 1080P and I got an AVG of 30-40 FPS usually. Sometimes went above, sometimes a bit below but usually 30-40. Think I'll turn some settings down.

Shit. Just got a new card (R9 285) and I'm getting pretty shitty frames rates. Playing at 1080P and I have to disable AA and MSAA to even attempt to get 60 fps. I still get the shitty stuttering occasionally that tanks my fps hard. When flying those copter things it's pretty bad. I've got pretty much everything on high, w/ a 2600K at 4.5 ghz. I'd take this card back, but I don't think I can fit anything 'better' in my case.

Great can't even play today. AVG has decided my legit copy has a virus and has vaulted some files. Uninstalling that piece of shit AVG now.

Seriously, do not use AVG, fucking piece of shit vaults everything. Think I'll have to re install FC4 :(

Edit: Decided to format. See if that helps with stutters or anything.

Personally, I prefer AMD hardware. However, even though the cost is more, how about an NVidia 970? There is even one that will fit in a mITX case with ease.

Surprised that it took this experience for you to realize uninstalling AVG is a good thing.

I wouldn't go to that extreme yet by any means - wait until the stuttering is resolved by a patch or by applying one of the tweaks mentioned in this thread (I have yet to try the one that was just posted). I sincerely doubt your issues has anything to do with the horsepower of your 285.

Are you guys with stuttering issues Memory or CPU-limited? My coworker has a R285 but a rather dated AMD cpu well. He OC'd it another 0.3ghz and performance improved significantly. Could be separate issue than yours though.

I found little or no value in them and stopped playing? Essentially "demoing" them. Or do you think I should pay for the ~4hrs I played Watch Dogs? Do you really?

See if you can run to a mcdonalds and eval some bigmacs for 4 hours in case you don't like them

And the answer to your question is yes, yes you should pay to play it if it costs money to do so. You liking it or not has nothing to do with if it should cost money or be free. If they want you to demo it for free they will release a demo.

Just buy a GPU that comes with a copy of a game and then return the GPU and keep the voucher. I've been doing it for years. Got me Watch Dogs, Far Cry 4, Borderlands 2, Borderlands Prequel, Far Cry 3, Hitman Absolution, Blood Dragon, Alien Isolation, and many more all free. It only works if the voucher is outside the box of the GPU though. Most stores count the voucher as software and opened software can't be returned :)

That's essentially stealing part of the package & not returning it with said item (GPU).

Not if you find a store that sells the voucher as a separate item on the bill. The way I do it I'm only returning one of the 2 items I purchased and it is sealed and brand new (the GPU).

If these publishers wanted my money they would provide me a demo. I don't pay $50-60 on faith and I don't pirate, it's against my moral code.

You're stealing pure and simple

don't try to justify it saying they should give you a demo... I should own a fking Ferrari that only cost $50 too right?

You're a thief and your "moral code" is laughable.

I'm a customer buying and returning product and am following the policies of the stores I frequent. If their policy is so poorly done that it allows me to get a free game then that's not my problem, I didn't write the policy.

The free game comes with the caveat that you purchase something to get the free game. Once you take it back you forfeit all right to that "reward"

Your morals are laughable

If you have a complaint about a food product, most places let you return the uneaten portion for a refund. The companies can continue to want me to pay for their product then find out if its shitty, but I don't care what they want. In Ubisoft's case they already assume I'm a pirate (since i'm a pc user), that I have disposable income ("If it runs bad I'll just buy a better gpu") and a terrorist (cuz I'm a gamer); so fuck them. If they make a good product that I enjoy, they might get my money, but I still won't like them and will still try before I buy.

In Simmonz case, he's closer to an actual thief, taking a physical thing; but he's correct in saying its the poor policy of the store that is ultimately at fault. His logic is no different than the logic that big companies / sleezy businessmen use "Well the loophole exists, why wouldn't I take advantage of it?".

How about we get back to talking about this game?

What are you guys using as the best graphics settings?

I tried Nvidia and I noticed it Gave some improvements and lost some.

At the request of others I will break off from this offshoot of the game topic.

You're both thieves

This game looks fun!
