Walked into a CVS but I didn't want to hold the line up just incase it didn't work, so I went to the pharmacy.
I held my phone over the terminal and from the sleep screen, the phone activated and displayed the cards stored in Passbook.
Went to the register and paid in one step. Easy.

The same at Walgreens.

Apple Pay > Sliced Bread

I went to McDonald to get some fries earlier, pretty much the same experience....
Much easier than taking credit card out of my pocket and wallet...

Went to Whole Foods on Monday. Payment was easy-peezy. Plus I got a free apple out of it for using Apple Pay...

Sorry for the newb question, but can Apple Pay also integrate your CVS membership card or does that still neeed to be supplied seperately?

Yes, Apple Pay ties into loyalty cards.

damn now I have to get a big honkin' phone :|

No you don't.... just move to Canada... grab CC you want to use, tap the terminal, put card back in pocket and you're done.

If I only had ONE CC with the tap feature I wouldn't even have to take it out of my wallet. I could just tap that.

P.S. Welcome to 5 years ago USA.

Oh wait, So for most people, we have to take out the card from our wallet and put it back, then into the pocket?

Not to mention how many credit card stolen through that Tap features......Now we gotta buy a tin foil wallet.... Ouch

Yup. I take it out, tap it and put it back in. Complicated I know...

And on the stolen card thing... let me see... I've owned credit cards for almost 20 years. I've yet to lose how many.... hmmm.... let me think..... Zero. Zilch. Nada. None.

You don't need physical access to an RFID credit card to have it stolen, someone just needs to get within range and grab the data. If you want safe, Chip and Pin is the way to go.

AFAIK those tap credit cards are limited to certain amounts. I read that in Britain they are limited to 20£.

I didn't mean to fork the thread. I was just hoping if anyone from Apple HQ is reading this right now that some of us would prefer an iPhone 6c, please

I might be making this up but...I thought there was some sort of code generated each time you use the Apple Pay that does not allow anyone to grab it. Each transaction generates a new code?

Well it was something like that....from Apple.

Every time you hand over your credit or debit card to pay, your card number and identity are visible. With Apple Pay, instead of using your actual credit and debit card numbers when you add your card to Passbook, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted, and securely stored in the Secure Element, a dedicated chip in iPhone. These numbers are never stored on Apple servers. And when you make a purchase, the Device Account Number, along with a transaction-specific dynamic security code, is used to process your payment. So your actual credit or debit card numbers are never shared by Apple with merchants or transmitted with payment.

I have no idea if what Apple is saying is true or not... but here in Canada we've had tap to pay for years... I've never heard of a single person getting their data stolen via tap to pay. Stolen credit cards? Sure... stolen info from tapping? Never. (PSA - Not saying it can't happen or won't... just haven't heard of it.)

I hope you're joking...
why? I'm entirely serious.

I was referring specifically to the 5s size being perfect in my hand and not wanting anything to do with this current phablet-mania, but to go even further I absolutely adore the poly 5c.

it's resilient, won't dent, seems to be much better quality than the 3's, feels smooth as silk in my dickbeaters, won't bend (I guess that's a thing for whatever reason so might as well put it out there), and takes me back to a time when I used to hate on all things apple until a stripper left a 3g in my couch and I fell in love with it compared to my cheapass android phone circa whatever year that was when we were struggling for relevancy just for maximum irony potential

Hmmm... I always thought the 5c felt "slimy" in my hand... too shiny maybe??

He meant the actual form factor, as in the 4" screen. The main benefit of Apple Pay is that you can have multiple cards and it's technically safer since no one ever has direct access to the cards information, just a code AFAIK.

I think the 4" screen is too small... HATE playing games on the things. 9.7" iPad is a bit too big... I always thought the Nexus 7 was perfect until the iPad mini came out.... now I would say it's a toss up... for games the 7-8" screens are best (IMO of course).

I'm too busy white chess horsing and skeletoning around to worry about iOS gaming :D

I don't do much... but when I do I want to throw my iPhone... controls are just too small. My Nexus 7 got dropped too many times and is officially broke and my iPad (as mentioned) is too large to lug around with me so my wife uses it. Time to get a new iPad mini or Nexus 7 I guess.

EDIT - This is why I have been waiting for Apple to release a bigger phone. Since I bought the original Nexus 7 in 2012 I was smitten with the larger screen... still JUST small enough to carry around and NOT be inconvenient but yet large enough to not make me miss my full sized iPad. If/when I buy a new iPhone is will DEF. be a 6 Plus. If not an iPhone it would probably be a Nexus 6. No need for small tablet anymore.

Large Phone
Large Tablet
Large Laptop

Life is complete! :D

someone should make an infographic video about how this works.

Put your card + friend(s)'s in the same holder and tap it on the pay machine to see who is the chosen one to pick up the tab.

I know one of the reasons walmart couldnt justify doing it was due to over a third of their business was coming from food stamp cards. Maybe cvs and rite aid had medicaid payment issues.

Isn't that the same promise PayPal makes?
It is, but PayPal stores your account data. Apple does not. They really just mediate the transaction between your bank/card issuer and the merchant, whereas PayPal accepts payment from your bank/card issuer, accepting and/or storing card and account credentials, then doles funds out to merchants. Assuming everything works correctly, anyway.

Obviously, Apple stores data for any cards you've already added to your iTunes account, but any cards you add through the wallet interface are merely tokenized. The only party who has knowledge of your card number is the card issuer itself.

Great...what a cluster fuck this will be. EVERYONE always wants to have their own idiotic system .

Steam, Orgin, GFWL...ever notice how only one took off and worked?

I won't be using proprietary mobile pay...fucking stupid. I hate shareholders.

EDIT: What Android fans aren't telling you is that Google Wallet is turned off, too. Also, people are blowing up CVS's Facebook page about this. Hopefully it'll force them to not bring in their own app/system. Though I'd bet 90% of those people wouldn't care and would willingly give them their info to put in their own app.

No, It is because they along with some other merchants want to role out there own system next year.

http://techcrunch.com/2014/10/25/currentc/

The consumer then unlocks their phone, opens the CurrentC app, opens the code scanner, and scans the QR code shown on the cashier’s screen. In some case, the reverse may happen where the consumer’s CurrentC app displays a payment code and the cashier scans it. If a QR code can’t be generated, a manually entered numeric code may be offered.

QR Code? Really?

So they are expecting less than savvy people that already have difficulty swiping their card and entering their pin, to go through all of those steps? What a fucking hassle. If Walmart is waiting for this trash system, it's a good reason to avoid shopping there because the checkout lines will now be down the shopping aisles. Like the author said, it only solves the retailers issue not the consumers, which is bad business. Any great business knows you solve the consumers problem first, which Apple has done.

Hopefully none of this will matter. I only looked at CVS's and Rite-Aid's FB page, but those two pages were being blown up about them dumping Apple Pay. I then went to Walgreen's page and there were a ton of posts saying basically "I swapped my Rx over to you guys because you take Apple Pay."

Hopefully this will teach the dumb fuck CEO's and share holders that consumers don't want dumbfuck proprietary bullshit that isn't secure and they'll bring back Apple Pay/Google Wallet.

I think the 4" screen is too small…

It's a phone. It has to fit in the pocket. 4'' is excellent for that.

They weren't on board Apple Pay to begin with. They're launching their own app in 2015 based on… wait for it… QR codes.

So, instead of tapping your thumb to pay, you unlock your phone, launch the app, and scan a QR code. That's the real LOL.
