Google made history again this week, bringing 64-bit capabilities to Android for the first time with its Nexus 9 tablet. Powered by our 192-core Tegra K1 superchip, the device is also the first tablet to feature the latest version of the Android operating system, Android 5.0 Lollipop. It starts at $399 and is up for pre-order today. Our first tablet with Google, the Nexus 7, set new standards for its Tegra-powered multimedia prowess and friendly price when it launched two years ago. The Nexus 9 also breaks new ground. At the heart of the Nexus 9 is Tegra K1, the first ARM processor for Android to take advantage of Lollipop support for 64-bit CPU architectures.

$400 to get "PC-class" performance on a platform in a processor that can handle 64-bit word length about ten years late to the fairly meaninglessly different from 32-bit party before it running an operating system made by the largest data mining company on the planet. That sounds like such a deal. Thanks nvidia, but I'll just use a cheap laptop at $300 that gives me "PC-class" performance without Google's spyware.

Hmm, brings up a good question.
Are there any slim notebooks that will use the Nvidia K1?
I'm have been thinking about a tablet for myself; but then I think I will need a BT mouse and KB for work related things. Crap, if that is the case, get a slim notebook.

actually there are K1 chrome books.

I bought my wife a Nexus 7 (second gen) and it broke twice in one year (screen crack and bad usb charging port). With warranty it was $275 for the 32GB model which is significantly higher then a lot of blue brand name competition.

I think google is pricing themselves out with this. And given their reliability, I think I will pass.

64bit in and of itself doesn't reeeeeeally do much for you from what I understand, and IIRC these only have 3GB of memory right?

The Nexus 9 – available with 16 or 32 GB of storage

What is this? 2007? Pathetic storage options. Especially when the Nexus 6 is 32 or 64 GB. I' was looking forward to a Nexus tablet this year but it looks like I'm going to pass.

Since the Nexus line doesn't support MicroSD cards, and combined with the higher price, that is a deal killer for me.

Plus $80 more for the extra 16GB, when I can buy a 16GB microsd card for <$20

Guess I'll be looking elsewhere.

Am i the only one who compares the n9 to the n10 not the n7? Price seems okay to me for the 16gb option. The 32 and lte options seem steep.. maybe 450 fpr 32 and 480 for lte imo

The Nexus 6 starting price is a lot higher than it used to be the case for Nexus phones.

Seems like the Nexus 4 will be with me for a while.

Way over priced! The day of android tablets costing in excess of 400 is done. Nearly 500. for 32 GB is ^$##SWR@ ridiculous. We are not talking Apple here. I don't care If I can sleep with it! And this is only a Dual core? I had thought it was a quad core. I bought my Acer A510 for 399. and it was a T3 w 32gb back in 2012. This tech is being over hyped and over marked!! Google and Nvidia can bite me!

Yeah, was always surprised why some of the Nexus products lack common features.

I have my eye on a K1 powered tablet, but I expect there to be several more to choose from here in a couple months.
Will probably snag one with the features and price point I want then.
