Anyone have plans to use Walmart’s online grocery order pickup center? I was interested once I heard you can even order beer online. :)

It looks like a lime green gas station, but the new Walmart store concept in the chain’s hometown of Bentonville, Arkansas doesn’t fill your gas tank: it fills your car with groceries. Announced earlier this year, Walmart Pick-Up Grocery opened on Monday, combining Walmart prices with the experience of not needing to get out of your car.

Ahhh America, there's never been a better time to be lazy... Or extremely over worked with no time for anything else. I guess this works out well for everyone.

When I go to Walmart and see items with expiration dates ranging from the age of the dinosaurs to a week from today, there is NO way in hell I'm letting THEM pick my groceries.

Well, for some people it's a personal safety thing or just a general disgust with humans thing. You can order your food and go get it without having to be in the store where every creeper is staring at you while you shop and that's a huge bonus.

Then again, I dunno how this competes with ordering your groceries to be delivered from them since you can get free shipping and it totally shows up at your door. Aside from fresh stuff and things that need ot be kept cold, this pretty much is in competition with their home delivery (which works like awesome, btw and I only have to go out for some must fridge junk now as long as I'm okay with the occasional shipment that takes a couple extra days to get to me and I don't have to go out among people as much).

As i see it the pros and cons of this solution are as follows:

Pro:
- Convenience of a pickup, rather than having to find all your stuff
- You never have to enter Walmart "The Most Depressing Place on Earth" and see all the sad downtrodden people shopping.

Con:
- Well, it's still Walmart, so you have a disgusting selection of frozen processed foods, and practically undrinkable Walmart branded milk.

I'll probably pass. I'm a happier person never setting foot in that terrible place (or its parking lot) ever again.

Your grocery items picked by the very same people who throw ipads and other electronics in the stockroom. :D

Safeway home delivery > Wal-Mart grocery order pickup center.

I enjoy going to walmart like a root canal.

My sentiments exactly. I worked there 15 years ago, and as a result avoid it at all costs, including the cost of spending more at other stores.

This is a great idea, but the wrong store to implement it at. Wal-Mart will end up shitcanning this for several reasons. They treat their employees like shit (not just low pay or bad benefits), so employees have little incentive to do their work correctly or treat customers with respect especially when there are likely a dozen other minimum wage shit jobs in the area they can work. Not only that, a large amount of WalMart's customer base are trashy, self entitled low income people that will do anything to game the system or constantly complain (Please note: I'm not calling all low income people trashy). There will be non-stop complaints about this service, there will be theft, poor service, people will stop using it, and the costs to keep it running will exceed the benefits.

I will pass on this because I actually enjoy going into Walmart. I drive to the Walmart that is 18 miles away when there is a Walmart 2 blocks from me in the ghetto because it is the cleanest and most well organized megamart I have ever seen. Everyone including the employees who speak no english are friendly and everything is so fresh. I also have a love affair with hot and spicy spam, and this is the only Walmart within the tri state area that has it. Half my XB1 games came from Walmart and yiu will not find a better place for a great price on Mobile 1 oil.

That image looks like the gas station derby map in Flatout2.... which is about what takes place in Walmart parking lots...

I have Amazon Prime... get's delivered to work. Safer.

Safeway home delivery > Wal-Mart grocery order pickup center.

For nobility and other upper echelons of society, Safeway home delivery is super great, but the masses of lower income people are lots of more cost sensitive so this might work more betterer for them.

This is going to Fail Safe just like the People of Walmart videos there is so much crap in the Back room at our Walmart the Corp college kid brains from Arkansas who created this have no idea how to get customers on a skeleton crew with hires who know next to nothing about the half million products in the store. Screw bag manager psycho co-workers exposed to flouresant light zombies.

I wonder if you can use food stamps with this?

This is a neat idea, I would not do it for produce but if you need canned stuff or stuff that does not really go bad for a very long time then it would work well.

get's delivered to work. Safer.

Can't do that with my company :) We may have our addresses but it has to go through security checks and crap like that. They're going to think it's very strange why I'd be having food shipped to work after inspection.

So, I can order 10,000 rounds of 5.56 and have it loaded into my trunk for me, right?

With the way they cut staffing to bearbones levels, i dont know how they are going to staff this to make it work.

I can see how this would be very practical for your average Walmart shopper:

Walking the hundred steps from your vehicle through the grocery store is just more than their poor knees can handle.

Walmart.. Where their low prices mean you, the taxpayer, get to pay their employees through welfare, while they get all the profit! :D

GV milk is actually packaged by Sheppes. Unless you don't like them either.

Actually, some of their employees are honestly overpaid. They are hardly employable, borderline retards quite often, and get paid slightly above market wages probably so they won't unionize.

Ding Walmart for selling purely Chinese crap, but their employees if anything are overpaid and otherwise unemployable and would be on complete welfare if Wally World didn't give them a job standing by the door saying "Welcome to Walmart, I love you".

Stop it dude! You are killing me!!
"Love affair with Spicy Spam." At first reading I read "Spicy Pam" LOL!!!

Have to agree on Motor oil and some of the automotive consumables. If they have it they will be everyone in town on price.

Are you exaggerating? Were you looking at the main shelves or a clearance area? Somehow I doubt the truth of this, but if it is true then it could become a legal issue. I am conjecturing.

I am going to go out on a limb and say you have a rebel flag tattooed somewhere on either your body, your ex-wife's body, or both.

Just tell them that you are planning on putting in some long ours ... ;)

All my fresh groceries I buy at the the store. Oddball non-fresh stuff I'll order, or stuff I can't get locally (like my Bada-Bing cherries for cocktail garnish)

You got that right as I consider spam to be one of the four food groups. Spam, beer, and Faming Hot Cheetos are all I need before watching NASCAR on my Vizio tv.

I've been to a Walmart once in my life and it was to trick them into selling me a T-Mobile SIM card for a penny.

He's made a very good point. I was at my local (non-Walmart) grocery store last week and they had yogurt with an Aug 26 sell by date on the shelf for sale.

Until everyone else in town goes out of business because of them, and then the prices go up up up! :p

I was a big fan of Walmart until the founder died.
Remember the "Made in America!" banners they had everywhere.
They wouldn't sell the Chinese made crap they sell now.

As soon as the "old man" died, those banners were torn down and Walmart became what it is today.

I remember back in the 80s when they put a Walmart in the small town I'm from. There was a cabal of crooks that owned most of the retails stores and they were complaining about Walmart's "unfair business practices" . Eventually all these crooks went out of business. They GOUGED everyone with high prices because they really had little competition and could get away with it. They had their monopoly for decades.
I distinctly remember needing a claw hammer and checking at the local HW store. $18 for a Stanley claw hammer.
I went up the street to Walmart, and purchased the SAME HAMMER for $8.
