34" 21:9 UltraWide Displays (3440x1440) - LG UM95/UM65 & Dell U3415W

Hi guys ! For those interested, I posted a few pictures of the AOC on a french forum : http://forum.hardware.fr/hfr/Hardwa...g-34um95-3440x1440-sujet_62912_36.htm#t786730

I'll translate all this on the dedicated topic on HF later ;)

^^ Thank you! IPS glow and backlight bleed looks somewhat acceptable, I guess. The multiple stuck pixels really sucks, though.

I emailed AOC earlier this week asking for *any* information about a US release, since the Euro shipments have already started. The dipshits just ignored me this time

My pleasure :)
I edited my message above to add another link to more photos. I wrote a short review, comparing different screen resolutions to see the difference in FOV and sharpness. Hope this can help those who are hesitating between a 16:9 and a 21:9, or even between a native resolution of 3440*1440 or 2560*1080.

HDMI limits the bandwidth to 50Mhz when set to 3440*1440. DP allows you to go up to 60 Mhz

Mine is going back to Costco- a red vertical line showed up....it goes away when I press the bezel, but it always returns. Sad.

Ya, but was wondering if someone that has it in hdmi 50hz mode has noticed a huge difference or if it was negligible. I'm not a pro fps player, but play casually. Would I be affected or not really? It would be mainly used as a work monitor

As my laptop only has hdmi, no display port.

Neither the LG or AOC supports HDMI 2.0 for 60MHz, right? Wonder if the new curved variations do.

I haven't noticed the difference for desktop use, but some people complain about eye fatigue et frequencies lower than 50Mhz. I guess it depends on how sensitive your eyes are.

Unfortunately, neither does. To my knowing, this hasn't been mentioned yet for the 34UC97...
LinusTechTips' review mentions the connectivity upgrades by refering to the USB3 and TB2, but not HDMI 2.0, so my guess is that this monitor doesn't support this standard...

Hey guys. This thread is long, so I'll just toss this in here.

I own both the LG 34UM95-P and the Asus ROG PG278Q.

I posted a few pics and opinions of both in this thread:
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1834794

The LG is great but definitely use it with the DP connection, not HDMI. The 50hz of HDMI would not be fun to deal with. I'm hoping this resolution takes off and in the near future we start seeing g-sync 34" 21:9 couple with 120+hz refresh rates. The added real-estate over 2560 is amazing in games and desktop use and if you could combine it with the instantaneous snap of 144hz w/ g-synch....Well, WOW!

I don't get why some people are posting comparisons of other monitors in this thread. Some are not even apple to apple comparison. Not the same native resolution and such.

I've managed to get ahold of an LG34UC97 for two weeks. Will be testing out some games and posting impressions with both GTX 680 SLI and GTS 970. Please reply with a lest of games/impressions if you would like me to do them. If I can manage to get ahold of a camera I will make a short video with an overview of the monitor etc.

I guess because, how do you know if you really like the thing without comparing to what you had before it?

When I got my Dell u2711 (I cant remember what I was using before it), I thought 'man this is so much nicer than my last monitor!' When I went from the u2711 to the LG 34", I thought, well, the same thing. When I picked up the Asus PG278Q, well, it was mixed results as to how I felt about it vs the LG 34" Just trying to give opinions man.

At first, I thought your question was intended to be humouristic, but then I realised you were serious and started questioning myselft about the profound usefulness of my "tests". And then, skypine27's reply shed all doubts off my mind. There was at least one person who understood me... :D

As meant by skypine27, not everyone knows right from the start that opting for a 34" 21:9 monitor is actually the way to go. Or not. So, comparison to what you might currently own may be a good way to get a grasp at what to expect.
For instance, I was hesitating moving to this image aspect ratio, and pictures similar to those I posted would have really helped make up my mide easier.
Hope my 2 cents help some make their choice ;)

I plan to buy this monitor but the price point is a bit prohibitive for me. If it comes down to around 700-800, I would pick this up in a heartbeat. Currently I think it's around 1k right now. Unless there's a 20% coupon for microcenter somewhere...

$949 at costco is about the best right now....I think

Anyone using the lower end versions like the LG 34UM64 or 34UM65 for photo editing or video work?

LG 34um65 owners: Can you please post a pick with a 50/50 split screen, showing a web browser in one and a app (any app) in the other? I want to see how that looks, ideally I'd be browsing the web and editing photo/videos in the other. I ordered a new QX320QHD for $461 but wonder if the extra $138 is worth the upgrade.

Anyone getting the LG Screen Split software to work with multiple monitors? It looks like it installs correctly but all the choices are greyed out. i have the LG connected via display port, a 24inch Dell connected via HDMI and another 24 inch dell connected via dvi.

Sorry, no pic, but I can relate my experience. I tried the 50/50 split briefly, and I hated it. I found I either had to shrink each screen down to a miniscule size to maintain the proper aspect ratio, or let it take up the whole 1/2 screen and have it distorted due to being in the wrong aspect ratio. Great idea, but I could not live with it. People with bird-like vision may be OK with it.

Just received mine, I'll be posting a few pictures this week-end.

My first impressions :

+bleed is contained ; some at the bottom (middle, and right corner)
+ glow similar to AOC's, but more homogeneous
+ no dead pixels :)
+ panel is faster than AOC, about 45ms difference ! AOC was in DP and LG was in HDMI. I don't this this changes anything, but I give the information anyway.

- the thingy at the back used to screw the provided stand protrudes, and cannon be removed. Painful to use with my VESA mount (two vertical bars)
- VESA holes are aligned with the power supply connector ; still painful to use with my VESA mount
- the connectors are perpendicular to the panel, making it even more painful to set the monitor flat against the wall

Photos coming this week-end !

Just a thought for those who wanted to experience ultra widescreen without spending a penny. Had my 42" and 60" FHD TVs set to 1920x810, there's UWS experience :)
the 42" looks similar size as 34" per what I have seen the LG 34UM65 that FRYs had in display.
Only for movies & games though, desktop is extremely cramped.

Bought an LG 34UM95. It is stunning. It doesn't look overly big because I had an Eyefinity setup prior. Everything looks so much more crisp. I have no dead pixels and no backlight bleed from this one. First one I bought had to be returned. Vertical lines in it and the screen was flickering. I think I received a new revision because it had a quality control test paper included with the tests.

The VESA mounts are an absolute necessity. I've owned several 144hz monitors including the new one and I still come back to this one. Until 4k becomes more mainstream, this is my monitor for the long haul.

Does anyone have this weird power save mode standby issue? It seems to keep cycling stating that it's going into power save mode and it just keeps doing that.

Anyone have a fix for this? It's very odd and annoying.

Yup, you're not the only one. It was suggested earlier to make sure any integrated graphics processing capabilities of your CPU are disabled...but now that I think of it, I'm not sure how that would cause the issue if the monitor's cable is connected to the graphics card rather than the motherboard's onboard video port. Surely there isn't some kind of funky pass-through going on.

I haven't bothered to troubleshoot it and simply turn the monitor off when I'm done using it.

@ XViper, are you connecting via DisplayPort? If so, make sure you leave it to default DP 1.1 and not DP 1.2, as that has driver issues on non-Firepro AMD cards.

As mentioned many times, DP 1.2 is not necessary unless you're using the very few programs that require it right now, and even then you're likely to be using a professional-grade GPU for those purposes (CAD / 3D Animation work AFAIK). For everyone else, DP 1.1 allows 3440x1440 @ 60hz with no issues.

I've been having different kinds of power issues with it, where it would randomly rurn off completely and get re-detected upon waking up from sleep, or not detected at all till I physically re-plug the DisplayPort cable.

One thing to note is that the above does not occur when using the onboard DisplayPort output (Intel HD4600). It generally seems a lot less glitchy with the Intel than the GTX760.

So I've got my heart set on a 34 inch monitor now. Question is how necessary is the curve if you primarily game? That's pretty much exclusively what I'd use it for, obviously the flat panel is cheaper but if the curve really is so different I could stretch for that.

I'd say depends on how far you'll be sitting from it most of the time.
If the distance between your face and the screen is less than 1m (~3 feet?), then I'd say definitely get the curved one (but wait for proper reviews first).
Between about 1m and 2m the difference would hardly matter, and at 2m and above a flat one is probably a better choice.

Got a shipment notification today for my LG34UC97. Will be here Thursday. I'll post pics when I get a chance to open it and get it connected to my 980.

Anyone heard anything recently about the AOC U3477PQU? Supposedly going to be offered at a more competitive price $750-$800. Supposed to be released this month.

I've seen the continuous power cycle issue in sleep mode on mine as well.

Near as I can tell the symptoms require a combination of a 700-series Nvidia card w/ recent-ish drivers and, possibly, a 2013 build date on the monitor itself?

anyone have this monitor with the GTX 900 series? I have 970 and was wondering if these issues still persist
