Hello,

I want to buy Galant table top with frame (160x80 cm) and two T-legs.

Will it be sturdy, steady at the maximum height?
What is the maximum height of it, 82 cm or more?
I just have a large monitor on a thin base, which will be shaken, if the desk is not sturdy.

twenty pound cat jumps up on mine, also with T-legs... monitors don't shake one bit

You will have zero issues with instability. The desks are very solid and can hold a considerable amount of weight without any stability issues. I used one for years with 4 monitors, PC, laptop, shelves, etc. Never had a single problem.

Your only issue will be trying to buy it new - it has been discontinued by IKEA.

Its been replaced by the new Bekant series. Im planning to get the corner version and its a bit "shallower" than the previous Galant.

The website only mentions the basic measures (160x110 cm) so ive been at the store to check the other figures.

Made a simple drawing to better illustrate the measurements of the new Bekant corner desk.

All measures in centimeters, divide by 2.54 for inch conversion.

Just trying to figure out where to place my Ncase M1 when having the display in the corner.

They are all over craigslist for dirt cheap but depending upon which part of the world you live in that may not be an option.

I have exactly that desk, 160x80 with T-legs. It's stable front to back, but it moves a bit from side to side. The T-legs are more stable with a corner desk, as it has a third leg rotated 90 degrees which prevents the side to side motion.

I have a 46" TV, my computer, 27" monitor, keyboard, etc on it and it is stable!

Thanks for those measurements, very helpful!

IKEA has an annoying and inexplicable habit of discontinuing popular lines. They whacked the enormously popular Jerker and now the Galant. The main attraction of the Galant was its customization possibilities. You literally could put together a desk of any size, length, or shape. I owned both of these desks before deciding on a DIY desk that I'm now using.

Its successor the Bekant series has rounded corners so customization by putting 2 of the desks together is not possible anymore without a weird gap in the middle. Makes me wonder what they were thinking at the time.

I'm thinking the same thing. They're not even customizable. You buy one size desk and that's it?

I'm looking to go to Ikea and buy some Galant stuff, just to have. I had a Galant leg break on me, my fault, but if it happens again I'm not sure that a Bekant leg would work.

An A-Leg or a T-Leg broke on you? the Bekant series no longer uses the A-leg system. I'm curious how in the world did you break it, those things are solid as a rock.

I had a T-led break. The small part that is welded on the leg that holds the set screw for the height adjustment. I thing the weld itself broke. I was moving the desk away from the wall by picking up each end and rotating the desk. My desk is 110" wide supported by two T-legs, I guess the stress was a bit too much. After it broke I went and replaced both legs. I'd still like to have a replacement on hand and it looks like the Bekant will fit.

the ikea website states that the legs carry a 10-year limited warranty, so you may want to check that out.

I did see that. I just tossed the old legs and bought new ones. I still need to go to Ikea and buy some other stuff, while I'm there I'll buy two T-legs.

I recently moved my desk to add a shelf and I took it apart first so there wasn't as much weight on the legs.
