The only reason the 6+ is tempting me is for that extra battery life...

so if history serves me right with me 4, 4s, 5 and 5s multiply those number by .75 and i still cant get a full workday out of one unless i want the phablet edition

During a busy weekend in Vegas using my phone for stuff* I doubt it could last that long**.

*If you have to ask you wouldn't understand. :D
** Killed a phone by mid day.

I hate the fact that android phones are using 1440p resolutions, I was so happy to see them use a common resolution and then to see them shit all over it just to have a check box marked off against apple ... useless, absolutely disappointed.

I sort of felt the same way until I started streaming videos on youtube at 1440p. Granted there aren't a ton of them but the ones that are, holy smokes they look nice. Very cool feature to show off to people.

It was the same when Android was the first to 720p, 1080p etc. Its not to compete against Apple, its progress.

I wish you could downsample youtube videos on mobile :(

Of course it's for competition. Not just against Apple, but also other competitors in the Android arena (LG/Samsung/HTC/etc).

I agree that 720p was bound to happen (and even 1080p) but 1440p is absolutely a marketing gimmick that manufacturers are using to sell phones to people that tend to really care about spec sheets, which tends to be almost every phone geek your run into anymore. You might notice slightly better clarity I suppose, but the trade-offs can't be worth it IMO (heat generation, causing throttling, battery consumption and sub-par 3D performance)

I am glad, however, that this technology is being actively developed if for nothing else than the VR headset world. A 4K display @ 5-7" (give or take) would be fantastic for a future Occulus rift. On a 5.5" cell phone I'm having a tough time seeing the benefit (no pun intended)

Yes, we may not see the benefits for most content, but the research that goes into these panels has multiple benefits and will drive down prices. As well as affecting research into batteries, heat consumption etc.

One could say the same thing about 4K tv's, Dell's 5K display etc. Its all about innovation and progress. Something Apple doesn't really care about (their niche i staking existing tech and polishing it) so they really shouldn't be mentioned.

You already have mentioned them.

i am think highly of apple watch more than iphone6 or iphone6 plus which is better for my life

I over all agree with this.

Eh, I have to disagree with it being a gimmick. I've been using my G2 for about a year now, and a friend of mine picked up a G3 recently. There is a definite difference between our screens. I'm not saying mine is bad--1080p still looks pretty darn good, but the display on the G3 is noticeably better when you compare them side by side. Like you said, there are trade offs though (battery, gaming performance, etc).

I think 1440p was a bit early to the market. The Snapdragon 801 isn't quite enough to run it, but we'll have to see how the 805 does when the Note 4 drops in a month. I have a feeling that real progress with qHD resolution phones won't happen until the 810 is available though.

yeah i would have liked if this gen stuck to 1080p instead of trying to go beyond that. I'm more concerned about heating, battery life, and the stability of the overall phone. :/

I may pick one up to just resell it, brother in law has an old verizon iphone 4 that works and he doesn't use, verizon will give you $200 for it, I have an upgrade so I could get this for free. I would probably resell it as I want a develop edition phone and verizon doesn't sell those with contracts so basically I would use what I sold it for to buy a different phone out right.

same thing I did on S4 to get my 5S. Except, the value on S4 drops faster than a drunk girl's panty from the club.

Value on any android phone drops at least 50% within a year. Mostly 50% within 9 months. After a year and a half expect no more than $200 for any android phone. Resale has never been android's strength.

Sounds too much like selective quoting.

There's a difference between "use with one hand" and "hold in one hand." The Verge wasn't saying that you can easily use the iPhone 6 Plus one-handed, just that it's not ungainly to grab.

I swear, the kremlinology that goes into trying to 'prove' a sinister, pro-Apple bias can be a bit much. Reminds me of the ridiculous conspiracy claims against the game industry lately.

^^ And, that's just what I expect a pro-Apple ass-kissing Steve Job worshiping apologist to say!!!!!!

MMMMUUUUAAAAAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!!

Just thought I'd save everyone the trouble.

Of course the iVerge would say that  Another reason I hate the iPhone, they get a free pass all the time, where Android get's ridiculed under a microscope, but as soon as Apple put's similar Android features or upgrade the size on the iPhone, it's "magical" and "revolutionary".

Watch the iVerge video of hands on with the iPhone 6 Plus, the guy makes excuses right away on the size, saying Android phones feel huge and unwieldy, but somehow this iPhone 6 Plus at the same exact size is magically just fine.

hey i have a question....

so sprint is offering their family plan right... but the iphone for life family plan... is that 4 iphones for $100 a month?? or am I being charged $100, plus $70 per an iphone per a month?

Honestly its not just one reviewer. In their review of the G3, Verge actually had the nerve to say the bezels were 'too thin'.

"A 5.5-inch smartphone, no matter how thin its bezels, presents ergonomic challenges that smaller devices don’t have to deal with"

The G3 is narrower than the 6+, yet they complained about it, while the 6+ is 'easy to hold' ??

Its not just Verge, most tech sites have a pretty obvious Apple bias and its not hard to see why when Apple PR spends so much money bribing them.

As someone that always bought a 16gb since I didn't use much drive space, the $100 difference from 16gb to 64gb is a great value upgrade compared to the prior $100 to 32gb and $200 for 64gb.

Can you find an example where someone in the media claimed that the increased size is "magical" or "revolutionary"?

Actually, what he said is that compared to "really giant Android phones", it's "not too bad". I imagine if he was enthused about the hand feel, he would've used a word like "good" or "great". And, compared to "really giant Android phones", like the Note 3, the 6 Plus isn't the "exact same size". The Note 3 is 151.2mm wide and 8.3mm thick, whereas the 6 is 158.1mm wide and 7.1mm thick. I'm not sure how differing dimensions could be construed as "exactly the same".

I love how you use the LG G3 as an example but you didn't notice LG's little stunt they pulled when they released it.

When the G3 was released, reviewers were given TONS of G3s to give away. MKBHD gave away 75 on his channel alone. All of these reviewers gave the G3 a rave review saying it was the best display on the best Android phone on the market.

NONE of them mentioned that the screen was actually terrible, and that the over sharpening LG did pretty much ruined the screen.

NONE of them mentioned that it stutters during regular usage, with no apps open, doing small things like opening the app drawer.

NONE of them mentioned the very sub-par contrast ratio on the "best screen ever".

NONE of them said a thing about the phone getting so hot during regular use (not gaming, not watching video, small things like browsing the web), that the phone would turn the brightness of the already dim screen down.

NONE of them talk about the poor on screen time of the battery.

The only person who mentioned anything about this was Erica Griffin on youtube. One of the few reviewers who didn't get boxes of G3's to give away on their channel. I had my G3 for about a week before I just couldn't stand it anymore and returned it.

So right now my carrier is AT&T, but I want to pre-order an iPhone 6 Plus through Verizon tonight (want to switch to Verizon). Is that possible? Or do I have to go in-store to do this since Verizon is not my carrier.

If anyone has had a past experience with this please let me know. Thanks!

No need to go to a Verizon store. You can do it through their website or Apple.com.

I don't think the G3's bezels are too thin, but remember that different reviewers have different opinions.

And simply speaking, the claims that most tech media has a "pretty obvious Apple bias" are childish, aren't substantiated and reflect more on the insecurity of the critic than the site (no platform other than what I use can be good, therefore good reviews for these platforms are clearly biased). Hell, even 9to5Mac's deep exposé of Apple's PR practices showed that the company isn't paying off anyone -- it just gives invitations and early review units to outlets it knows are both big and aren't likely to write deeply negative reviews. Many of the people who do get that review gear don't even use iPhones most of the time.

Which sites would you say are fair, then? And don't you dare say "Android sites."

Engadget of late isn't that bad. Anandtech has a Apple and Intel bias IMO but their reviews are always a class above the rest.

Verge, BGR etc are little more than Apple fan sites and they don't bother to pretend they aren't. 'It's just the reviewers opinion' is a bs excuse because 1. all the reviewers seem to love Apple regardless and 2. they work for the site and thus speak for it.

In fact Android fan sites tend to give a much more fair overview since they are quite critical of Android devices and Google when needed and also cover Apple news. Sites like Verge etc often read like fan fiction the way they praise all sorts of intangibles yet will ignore real factual data.

Do Anandtech and The Verge not also cover Android news?
