how much increased health does one typically want to shoot for?

Up until the last patch, 200% was the "minimum" and 240% was considered a good life pool. With 1.2 and the drastic reduction in the amount of % life on the tree, I think that 130% is a good baseline and 150% is an ideal goal of late in the game.

Thanks!

And how good is a node that's just +10 to life? Seems weak.

Edit: with how you have to focus on health in this game, is it typical to get the +HP bandit reward when possible over a talent point?

The +10 to life node is not great, especially as, along with the reduction in % life on the tree in 1.2, the amount of base life per level was increased, making those base life nodes somewhat less valuable.

I still always take the +HP bandit reward (for a life based character, obviously), though. That much base life is still really good.

I'm running Abyssus right now and it took my DPS up to 33.6K.

Pretty impressed with it so far. I did die once, but that was because I was screwing around with different Amulets (Carnage Heart) and curses with CoDT and forgot to re-map my Leap Slam.

I got into a spot of trouble, pressed my W key to GTFO, and nothing happened. Well, something happened...I lost 10% XP

So I'm just picking PoE up again after over ~6 months off. Is there a guild? Looking to make some friends.

Yes we have a guild, but the hours are very odd for us to all be on at once. PM Leninghola for an invite.

I didn't have many total disconnects this weekend so I was able to do all my dailies. Managed to get Haku to 6 so I expanded my Hideout and invited Vorici.

Question about hideouts...

Say I want to stop using the hideout that Haku provides and use one that Vorici has...do I lose the decorations I had in my old hideout if I use another one? Or can I use them in the new hideout?

Oh...thought I'd mention that I was able to get Catarina, Vorici, and Eleron from level 2 to level 5 in 1 night because it "seems" they have not completely fixed the spawn rate for all zones. I don't know if I was just on a lucky streak of if using 3 zones resets some sort of counter for how often the masters spawn. The masters were popping in at least 70%-80% of the instances I ran...if I hadn't gotten tired and logged for the evening I'm sure I could have gotten all of them to 6 or 7 that night.

I used the upper/lower submerged caverns and the little zone where the crab is...I just ran from one to the other doing new instances each time. Since it's a low level area, I used 5 quicksilver flasks and just ran through the zones to see if a master spawned. if so, I did their quest and, if not, I ran to the next of the 3 zones and select a new instance for it.

Ahh smart. There's no penalty in XP for doing their quests if you're a high level? Sometimes the quests are hard enough in normal, I figured they'd make you do them up to merciless as well and it'd be really really hard.

My build is slowly coming together while, at the same time, making me reconsider how I ought to "finish" it. There were so many amazing crit/crit multi/crit + accuracy nodes scattered over the bottom half of the tree that I couldn't resist trying a melee crit build to begin the Rampage league. The plan was to do infernal blow + melee splash for AOE and molten strike + conc effect for single target. Leveling has gone ok, especially after a got a 295 dps siege ax from the weaver quest. I bench crafted local crit onto it and I've been smashing things until I can afford to buy an epic phys/crit scepter.

That said, I might switch my skills around and try to make this into a herald of ash overkill burn prolif build. I want to use heavy strike with and many big damage supports as possible to do huge damage to one target and then proliferate the overkill ignite to surrounding enemies. I've seen this done by a few people but I thought their execution of the idea could be better (namely in how to apply a really big hit). I might try to make it work with a Romira's banquet ring so that, hopefully, my first few hits won't crit but will just work down the life of the target. Then, once I have a couple power charges and the target's life is pretty low, I do a massive crit and apply a huge burn to his friends.

I just ordered a new Trackball to replace my Kensington Slimblade.

The CST 2545-5W has 2 input jacks on it which accept external, user-programmable buttons. (for a total of 5 buttons)

This means I can connect a button to it and program it with "Alt-F4" in case I need to make a hasty exit from the game for some reason. ;)

I had to look this up because i'd never hard of a mouse with input jacks on it before. Crazy!

You also have a /oos macro yes? I've found it to be invaluable while playing this game.

That sounds like a really cool build. I can't really tell by your tree though that that's what you're going for. I suppose that's why builds in PoE are far more than the tree itself.

I've got my scion up to level 19, and while i plan to continue playing him as he'll be my dual wielding claw fellow, I've decided that Scions suck for leveling. It's rough not getting any of the moves you want, because their skill choices are so all over the place. I'm going to have to purchase a lot of gems i'll need.

Here's what i'm aiming for at the moment.

https://poebuilder.com/character/AA...wfEcG2-e0xcLsBbWNv6c09vxsjGKsb1dF9GSvijgV_Q==

I've decided to scrap Resolute Technique not only because of the point investment, but as i'm playing i can see that my accuracy is actually quite good at the moment (94%) and i found out that Dual Strike's quality bonus is crit, so if I ever want to max out this build I wont want RT anyway.

Also, it really sucks that there's so little chaos resistance in the tree anymore. I'll practically have to prioritize chaos resistance in every spot because i want to use Blood Rage without Chaos Inoculation... a little annoying, but i guess if it annoyed me that much I'd go CI lol

The build is interesting but needs "moar deeps" right now. I think 4 more points to get me some more crit and crit multi and I might be there.

Good luck with the claws. Be sure to check the guild stash, I've been throwing a lot of my rampage leveling gear in there so some of it might be helpful.

I started a Shadow trapper build yesterday and have taken the Saboteur skill, but it doesn't seem to be working.

Saboteur
20% increased trap damage
20% increased mine damage
can set up to 1 additional trap
can set up to 1 additional remote mine

I'm still only able to set 3 at a time, I'm using bear trap and fire trap. It still even shows the number 3 in the corner of each skill hot buttons. Anyone know why?

It's kinda wonky in implementation: you can "set" an additional trap, meaning you can physically throw another trap on the ground without your first one being destroyed, but you will still only be able to charge up your normal 3 traps.

^ ok thanks for the help. I might just respec out of it, but then again the 20% increased damage is nice

Hey there's a talent which says "45% increased Defenses from Equipped Shield"

Does that mean just the Armor or ES will be increased or will it also affect resistances or max resistances?

Those nodes only increase the armor, evasion and ES from a shield.

Aww poop. Thanks!

Did they remove some Increased AOE of skills nodes? Looks like there's only really two clusters anymore, in the templar tree and then in the witch tree. I thought i remember there being more.

The third one is at scion start where it always was. You can search the tree.

I like how Haku no longer gives me quests that are timed soul recoveries...

He popped on my 74 map last night and I was like..."That's a whole big bag of NOPE right there" but I decided to do it and, when I zoned in, there was no timer so I just took my time and worked my way through the little zone...was fun.

On a related note, I have not seen Zana in 3 days now. I think she's angry with me or bugged or something...I even went back and ran 7 66 maps just to see if she would pop in one of those...NADA.

It's so weird because she was appearing in about 50% of the maps I ran previously...

I hate Haku's timed missions. Even 10 levels over the zone level I can't get them done. I'm with you, they're a steaming pile of nope right now.

And Zana's mad at me too. I feel your pain.

I avoid doing Haku's missions when on a map over 66 but I found that if you load up on quicksilver flasks that add Armor you can fly through the zone ignoring all the mobs until you get to the boss guy, then burn him down and grab the soul, then sprint back out.

Man they make it really hard to get all of those, but that's probably the point :(
If you really badly want AoE i'd consider either a Divinarius (unique dagger with AoE, Spell DMG and Spell Crit) or Carcass Jack (Unique chest with life, resists and big AoE). Both reasonably affordable (yes 15c isn't cheap but you should be able to farm it). One or both of those combined with the witch/templar nodes and/or an increased AoE gem should give you TONS of aoe size.

ahh good point, i hadn't even considered a unique for that purpose. Thanks!

Seems like they took out some +burning nodes as well. I think I remember going to the witch tree on my RF templar for some +burning nodes and +aoe, but now that doesn't seem worth it over all the other +HP or hp regen i can get.

Man if only I had enough point to make this RF build

https://poebuilder.com/character/AA...gS76KC2F5aIO2JwtCow48pldN4_6P8kU64caeEH8MfQ==

Since i probably will never have this many points, what do you guys think should take priority? I assume I'd got for HP regen and burning damage first. This should be attainable:
https://poebuilder.com/character/AA...NVbUUIFBHGJGE72Eh4up07XrvYEu-igtheWjGnhB_DH0=

So, how big of a difference does the +40HP bandit reward make over having an extra point to spend in a 5% life node?

I ask because all my characters thus far that are now in standard league picked the skill point every time. Including my level 69 RF Templar.

I'm such a compulsive min/max-er that I have this nagging feeling that i should re-roll a Scion to do it right. Does anyone know if Elemental Damage effects RF damage? and if so, does it effect RF damage to both enemies and the player?

I remember reading a change not too long ago that increased burning damage only affected enemies when it comes to RF, and doesn't increase damage against the player.
Found a good resource with all this info in it!: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/832331

Lastly---Does anyone know: When you have a skillgem supported by, lets say Added Lightening Damage, does the ligtening damage always hit first? or does the skill always hit first?

Can someone explain the whole "diminishing returns" when using straight AR gear?

I understand that there is a point where it is no longer any benefit to increase it so I was wondering at what AR level that is...If I use my high AR gear and an Aura, I can get around 25k AR, and the tooltip says it will stop 71% of physical damage.

I don't really think it's stopping that much, though. I still seem to take a lot of damage.(even when NOT wearing my Abyssus) I watch videos of guys with builds who have 7k-8k ar and they are doing just fine while it seems like I am taking more damage...I don't think it's all elemental damage that I'm taking but I still increased, greatly, all my elemental resists over the 75% cap.

What is your level and your chaos resist?

Character is 87.5
Chaos resist +45% all others capped

I don't have a problem with Chaos damage. The chaos damage I do take is right in line with what I expect to take from Chaos damage given my resistences to it. That said, I'm at +55% Chaos resist with a flask, 45% without

The mobs I'm taking damage from don't do Chaos damage. Hence my question about the diminishing returns of AR levels...

Appreciate the link. I'll have to check that out from home. Youtube verbotten from work, though they don't mind me browsing hardware sites since I use that info when recommending system configs and the like...

I couldn't watch the whole thing because I'm also at work, but he re-confirmed what I'd heard before.

My main question, and maybe he got around to it in the video, is why the hell did GGG make armor function this way? Making armor weaker against big hits is such a weird design decision imo.

It's my understanding that they're trying to make a "realistic" armor model. That is, a monkey hits you with a rock and a lot of armor will completely mitigate the damage. A 15 foot monster smashes you with a 500 pound hammer and all the armor in the world won't do you any good.

Oh, well, yea. okay, actually that makes a lot of sense :D

That's why stacking mitigation is so important. Armor plus arctic armor plus mind over matter. Or evasion plus block plus lightning coil. Any one by itself isn't enough for high level content but combining them is extremely powerful.

I just started playing this game a few days ago, slowly trying to learn all the stuff. I randomly picked a witch to start with, but I'm thinking of going back and trying another type of character. What is a good choice for solo playing? I'm interested in just doing the quests and stuff for now more than anything so I want to do it by myself and take my time with it.

Any character if you ask me. They all can kick ass alone.

Well not scion... But that's just my opinion. Their skillgem rewards are too unfocused

Has anyone noticed changes to weapon swapping? RF's benefits no longer seem to stay, even though the effect is still showing and my life is plummeting.

Not sure if this is intentional.

Go on YouTube and search for path of exile beginner builds. Pick one that looks fun and go to town. I'd suggest picking something that was posted pretty recently as the skill tree just went through a big overhaul.
