Google Glass The Single Worst Product Ever

This is the kind of review I want to see more often. Not someone blowing smoke up our asses about how INSANELY GREAT a product is, or someone in the throes of buyer's remorse. But someone legitimately disappointed in a product and able to articulate the problems in a coherent, well-considered manner.

He was a little more general than I would have preferred on some of his criticisms, but he convinced me that product sucks.

I can think of at least 10 products that are worse than google glass, both tech and non-tech related.

Gimme a few minutes and I am sure I can come up with 50-100+.

1. Asbestos
2. Lead based paint
3. The original incarnation of Anti-Lock Brakes. System messes up and you have no brakes at all.
4. Nintendo Virtual Boy - BWAHAHAHA
5. Zip disk - you want to save a file? Instead I will wipe the disk. Oh yeah.. wonderful product there.
6. Old version of GM's turn signal switch - breaks often
7. Ford ignition switch - roll pin comes out and you cannot turn the vehicle off.
8. NinjaBread Man - Wii game
9. One button mouse
10. E.T - Atari game

Whiny and offers nothing useful. This is beta, for development and not general purchase. He should've done more research on capabilities and drawbacks before buying blind then whining about it. While I don't plan on buying one anytime soon I do see the value of a personal hands-free voice-activated HUD when it's refined and miniaturized.

The whole Google glass thing. I've never even seen it actually marketed directly toward consumers. It always been a product in a never-ending state of beta and the first generation of the product at least seems targeted toward hipsters rather than real people.

Just saying, I feel like something has to actually qualify as a "Product" before it can hold the title of "Worst Product Ever".

The guy is spot on. I have access to two of the Google Glass. We have been developing software for them. He is spot on - the product is not ready for consumers yet.
One item he failed to mention: the Glass overheats a lot as well! It lets you know it is getting hot, then shuts down for about 10 minutes. Charging on USB causes the device to warm up even faster.
My summary: could eventually be a neat technology, but it's not even close to being something normal consumers should buy. (Which is why I think Google has limited the availability of them in the first place.)

So the fact that you can buy the product straight out for $1500 and become an "explorer" (gag)...means the product is not a product?

This thing is simply not ready for consumers, period.

I know how it's like to deal with heavy glasses that crushes on your bridge since I wear specs. The very mentioning of Glass being unstable and heavy made me wince. The fact that you can't adjust Google Glass to adjust the thing made me cringe.

Battery life issue of Glass is something that doesn't surprise me. Rebooting time of 10 minutes is pretty horrid, and those facts would kill it in terms of usability.

The problem with many review sites is that they get the products for free, and they get the products before they are available to the general public. To get your view count high, most can't afford to review a product after a hundred other sites have already posted a review, as it'll be too far down in search results to be relevant. But to get access to early products and to get them for free, you have to ensure you write glowing reviews and kind of wash over any negatives lightly so as not to offend the vendor.

The only way around that is if you're already big, and you more often than not actually buy the product with your own money, which is what this guy did here. I thought it was great and agree or disagree, he was very thorough with why he thinks its such "epic fail".

And for haters that already didn't like Glass, at least its comforting to know that Glassholes will have to live with neck problems, headache, and massive inconvenience, lol! :D

Seemed like pretty legit gripes to me, and most of them are not things I have heard before.

WTF you talking about, it's already available for retail.

It is a bit of an ouch!.. but some of the strongest point can be resolved probably rather easy.
Place the battery and more connectors on the opposite leg, plus it can balance the weight.
Add gyros (if there is none), to have the image straight.
The fact that it feels that is going to fall of your head, I am sure can be reduced with some better weight distribution.
I disagree it is 10 years away, I think it is a few revisions away.
Smarter on/off should be an easy software fix.
Bootup is probably more software fixes. Bluetooth issues maybe about this boot-up?
The speaker is another minor revision, and it could be made into an extension on one of the leg that wraps around and into your ear, it can be fairly light and no so obvious.

Shit, you can just buy them straight out new or used on Amazon.

Now way, too heavy is just that, too heavy, and there is no easy way to offload that weight unless you are going to wear a battery pack on your belt with a cord running to your glass.

That said, this guy makes a lot of good points. I wonder why they didn't just make Glass a display that interacts with your phone via Bluetooth, so your phone does all the work.

The problem with google glass is that it's not a top hat with monocle attachment. That would solve literally every problem.

A top hat would provide plenty of room for batteries, circuitry, antennas, etc. The weight can be better distributed, and rather than make it feel unstable would make it feel more secure on your head. Plus, it would encourage better posture. The monocle provides a better display that has been proven to work already.

Since wearing hats indoors is rude (as opposed to wearing glasses indoors), there's already a powerful instinct to remove it when you enter a private residence or establishment, which cuts down on glassholes.

Also, top hats are more stylish than weird glasses.

Oh! And a Bluetooth cane attachment! Serves as a more powerful antenna, plus it's actually a sword cane, because why not?

As someone who wears glasses for vision correction... this basically encapsulates all my thoughts on why it would be a bad choice for me.

5. Zip disk - you want to save a file? Instead I will wipe the disk. Oh yeah.. wonderful product there.

Hah! Almost forgot about those. Never had an issue with my disks though. I was aware of the "clicking death" though

"crooked" is the first thing I noticed when I put a pair on. Seeing a constantly crooked HUD would drive me crazy.

Windows 8 wins the distinction of single worst product ever, imo. How a company can take a working O/S and righteously fuck it up is amazing. If it is not the worst product, it IS the worst fuck up.

LMAO! Although, I think you're actually a genius! Joking aside, a baseball cap with flip-down HUD from the visor would work great, and you can handle a lot more weight if its balanced on the circumference of your head rather than your two dots on your nose.

The top of your visor could even be a solar panel, to help trickle charge a lithium battery.

And it doesn't need to do any processing, because that's what the smartphone in your pocket does. It'd just be a wireless bluetooth 4.0 camera/mic with a flip down thin plastic HUD and a tuck away earbud or small speaker.

Its a product to test and evolve an emerging technology. Evaluating it in its current form is stupidity. If anyone things in the coming years heads up displays aren't going to important, they are naive.

The current iteration of Glass is already outdated. Why do people seem to think this is a final iteration? Granted, uses are limited.....but it still has plenty of applications.

People said the same kind of things about flying cars in the 1950s.

The reviewer is just saying that as it is available for sale now, it'd be a massive PITA waste of money for 99.9% of consumers. I don't think anyone will disagree with that, especially after reviewing all his points.

Just to be clear, he actually said "worst product I've ever experienced".

The title of the video is "Google Glass is the WORST PRODUCT OF ALL TIME!"

So, yeah, that is what they're saying.

I don't care if it's beta, they make it that easy to buy and they encourage it's use, it's fair game for reviews like this.

Windows 8 is no where near the worst operating system ever... it is a solid OS it has some different (from windows 7and XP) concepts in the UI department (it blows my mind, for years people have asked for a more MAC like OS....this is it...).

Vista (pre-SP1), Windows ME, and Windows 95 are much worse. Windows XP x64 is THE worst OS I have ever used.

Short version of the video.

1. If you buy the prescription version because you are likely to go past the 30 day return period by the time you get lenses installed and try them out.

2. The prescription version of google glass is heavy.

3. You cannot adjust the glasses very much.

4. Doesn't do everything a tablet can.

5. Not good battery life (claims battery goes from full to dead in 45 minutes of use, max of 6 hours)

6. No power button

7. Crashes a lot.

8. 10 minute re-boot.

9. Hard to take level pictures.

10. Optional Earplugs are uncomfortable.

11. Non-standard USB, that you cannot charge while using.

Lol that's utter bullshit. MS may have slightly "fucked up" but compare it to a lot of products and you'll see how retarded that statement actually is.
