ASUS Announces ROG SWIFT PG278Q Premium Gaming Monitor

Does the brightness slider on this thing actually adjust brightness/black levels or just back light? When using test images it seems like I cannot get within tolerances for gamma using just the monitor controls. My spyder4 seems to confirm this with its profiles, and to get close to the same amount of reduced brightness without a calibration profile running, i need to reduce the brightness setting in the desktop color control tab of the nvidia control panel to 42%.

Don't confuse this with the luminance, or perceived brightness of the monitor. I'm talking about blacks not looking black.

Anyone else seeing something similar?

I'm running into issues in games where the LUT isn't loading and everything is looking washed out. I can't adjust via the monitor and not every game has a gamma slider that works well in this case.

Did you have those problems with a single gpu configuration?

Yeah it's a single 780. It's a EVGA SC so it's got slightly bumped clocks. I read people were having difficulty with gsync when overclocking. Whether this is due to that or driver issues who knows. If it is and factory overclocked cards are suffering then that's a bit of a short sight lol.

You can pay one person $1500 on eBay and he'll ship it end of September after payment fully clears. I'm not sure that he understands that retailers will have a second wave by then.

You guys have me nervous, I have SLI 780s that are overclocked, sounds like I could be in store for some flicker/stutter. I hope NVidia gets some new drivers out soon to clear all this buggyness out. I was mainly looking to use the ULMB mode, but until I do my X99 and next gen gfx (SLI 880/980 whatever is coming in the next month or so) upgrade I was thinking GSync will probably be best for BF4 since I'm dipping well below 100 fps currently.

I'm willing to pay a few hundred over retail and I still can't get one. The eBay gougers mean business!

Any extras out there? I'll pay a premium!

Depending on how I feel about my purchase, I'll let you know.

They aren't gonna be in short supply very long. Might as well just hold out. An $800 monitor isn't gonna keep selling like crazy

I have a weird schedule with blocks where I can game. I'd love to have one for the next block of free time. :)

What are people talking about overclocking and such and issues?

Unless I'm just lucky, no flickering when overclocking or anything for me, under GSYNC/ULMB modes, overclocked/stock. I updated to the latest drivers which might need to be done, but I only did it because I thought I needed it for ULMB which turns out I didn't.

Using a single 780Ti anywhere between 1.2-1.3 GHz, 7200 on the memory or so (the memory sucks, thanks Samsung lol<3)

This has got to be the funniest launch ever. We've got it! Oh, no we dont. I mean yes we have it for pre-order. Nope, we dont have it anymore. We'll have it in 2 weeks. We'll have it in 2 days. We'll have it in a month. No wait, we've got it now.

Funny thing is that it seems to be several different retailers that are doing that. LOL! This will definitely make for a good story in a few years when one of those "remember when" threads pops up. :D

Newegg was pretty straight forward. When I ordered it it said in plain text "Back Order" essentially, "We don't friggin have this, but will ship/charge you when we do". It's showing up today for me. TD, not so much....

Mine came in today. So far I really like it. Haven't got to run it through all the paces yet, but so far I'm happy with what I've seen from it. Gsync is pretty awesome, a couple of the older games I play used to tear like hell, now they are buttery smooth. I have 780s overclocked to 1110mhz on stock voltages, and I've not had any issues so far.

Was reading on AT that someone's was having heat-related issues. Anyone seeing any signal loss potentially related to heat? Or is that just an isolated case of a possibly faulty unit?

Yeah, I've read on the official ROG forums that some people's units are going bad after a few weeks (blurry text, halos around on-screen objects). I'm interested to see if it's a more widespread problem.

link please. this is concerning

Same thing happened with the ASUS ROG Soundcard, my guess is their QC is not to par.

I'm noticing backlight flickering while in G-sync mode. A good test is to load CS:GO, shift-tab and open a web browser, then scroll up and down. It's annoying enough that I'm turning off G-sync for now. This does not happen on my VG248 w/ the G-sync module. This better not be a damn hardware issue.

Is anyone here running this monitor on an AMD setup?

Right now, I cannot select ULMB from the OSD, and when I choose 144Hz in the Catalyst Control Center, my screen flickers badly. I can, however, run 120Hz without issue. I am using the provided DP 1.2 cable.

Is this an AMD problem? It seems the ULMB is restricted to NVIDIA only but I can't find anyone's experiences with 144Hz and AMD.

Maybe a driver issue? I know GTX 600-series cards are having trouble running 144Hz with the latest drivers. Rolling back to the last version fixes the issue for them. I couldn't say for AMD users.

Mine is also having trouble doing 144hz with the included cable.

I have seen on various restarts:
1. Works perfectly (yay!)
2. 144hz missing from refresh rate list (huh?)
3. 144hz selectable, but using it causes the colors to be completely corrupted.

120hz seems to work on a regular basis.

Ok, more testing:
1. The colors on mine looked vastly better after going through basic Windows color calibration. The biggest change was to turn the gamma way down.
2. Performance in gaming feels much smoother than on 60 hz... And some games have un-defeatable 60FPS caps :(
3. The 120/144hz UFO on testufo.com is approaching definition, but still not quite there yet.
4. Summary of 2/3: The move to 120fps is a worthwhile one, but we've still got a ways to go before things like rapid turns look really smooth.

I may be able to borrow a i1Display Pro to fully calibrate it.

Mine finally shipped from Amazon. Despite selecting one-day shipping when I ordered it on the 27th, it won't be here until next Tuesday. Bummer.

At least Amazon refunded me the upgraded shipping charge (I have Prime), but only after I complained.

Got mine today. I must say I'm very impressed.

See the imgur albumn below to see my mounting process to my setup!

Played a few games of BF4, and Diablo 3. I'm really speechless; the picture is just so clear and distinguishable. G-Sync was easy to setup in the NVidia control panel. Upon the first game of BF4, I was literally jizzing in my pants on how amazing and smooth everything looked. Upon first impressions, I'm loving it.

For those playing BF4, do you guys run at 120hz 1440p gsync or 144hz 1440p gsync?

or ULMB 120hz 1440p?

I have a 670 - monitor was able to enter 144hz mode with older drivers, but frame rate as ultra low.

Updated to new drivers, and 144hz refresh rate is now gone as an option. Frame rate issue is fixed though. Any ideas?

I got mine from newegg today, but it's defective. There are red lines in the exact middle and that red dithering on grey backgrounds on the right side of the screen. Happens in windows too, not just 3d modes. It even does this at 1080p/60hz and I tried another cable/graphics card.

I am so sad right now because otherwise the g-sync experience with my 780 Ti is really great.

This thing is trash. Considering just returning it today or next week sometime. I had tons of software problems setting it up initially to just try out Diablo 3. Even had to reboot my computer after the monitor INSISTED it was out of range. Said screw it and utterly uprooted the drivers and reinstalled them. Worked better after that, I got some playtime in Diablo 3, Just Cause 2, and AC Black Flag (granted that's capped at 60Hz in that anyway). It was good. Nothing earthshattering, but good. Now if it consistently worked like that it might be worth keeping because I didn't have anywhere else I cared to put that money anyway.

Then today I wake up and try to take it for a spin in Diablo 3 again, to select the 144Hz option. Get out of range errors friggin constantly, just trying to go through the menu. And you can't see what's on the screen at all during this time. Monitor's just black with an annoying out of range box in the center of the screen. I finally did get it working for who the hell knows what reason. I mean it probably wasn't working, it was just deciding to stay stable for some strange reason. Then, I try BF Bad Company 2. Same OUT OF RANGE LOL. Try Civ 5. Same thing. Try anything else. Same thing. Not a single game will work with this hunk of junk. As an FYI, I hadn't even shut off the computer since last night. It's the same boot, and the only thing I'd been doing is surfing the internet before I went to sleep.

Not to mention I don't know if it's because of the latest driver that I had to install to even get this working in Diablo 3 without hard crashing my computer, but Far Cry 3 it didn't help out any at all. In fact, in Far Cry 3, I was now reduced to a stuttering mess. Which was the same between both of my monitors, so I guess it's thanks to Nvidia's new agenda to screw over SLI users in any way possible. You know, the way they broke Shadowplay and then never fixed it for us?

I'm really rather pissed, here. I got a pretty decent panel. A bit of backlight clouding but nothing major that would make me return it for once. No dead or stuck pixels. It was not DOA. But this out of range crap... it's REALLY killing me. Like even supposing it was an Nvidia driver issue, they couldn't have made some kind of fallback for this built into the monitor?! It sounds to me like part of the signal isn't as expected and they never even made logic to throw it out or something. For an 800$ monitor, this kind of crap is unacceptable. I'm really thinking about just giving it back to Fry's. What do you people think? Whose fault is it and who is gonna fix it?

Maybe try with a different DisplayPort cable? I've seen others say they solved their out-of-range issues that way.

No, I don't have another DP cable. The last monitor I had that used DP was a VP2770. That's back when I was running around grabbing 700$+ IPS/PLS 1440p monitors and returning them before finally going with a cheapo Qnix.

But your post did give me an idea. The idea was rather simple. Disconnect the monitor and reconnect it after blowing on both connectors.

And that fixed the issue in every game thus far... but this worries me quite a bit, because that means the issue isn't even consistent. After driver reinstall, it wasn't happening at all last night. Then I get up and it's happening in the morning. And then I blow on connectors and reconnect it and it works? That's... not very good behavior. It's really inconsistent.

Still, when it does work it is quite a noticeable improvement. This is probably as good as we're going to get for a very long time. Plus I don't have any of those other vertical line and whathaveyou issues that other people do AFAIK.

Received mine today, hooked it just to my motherboard as i am gpu-less at the moment.

Been running through the screens here

http://jasonfarrell.com/misc/deadpixeltest.php

I appear to have one dead pixel, on the left hand side of the screen, 10cm from bottom and 2cm from the left side, shows darker/blackish(sort of looks "hollow" if you get me) on white, fairly noticeable, also shows in the red green blue, but really hard to see, cannot see it while black screen.

I suspect that there is no way to "revive" that pixel at all?

What do you guys think i should do? I see in the manual it sais >5 "dark dots" is a warrant-able problem, though i am have only the one pixel with the problem.

I live 6hrs drive from the store i purchased from online, so would have to post it back to them etc to go through the warranty procedures.

(Just FYI,I live in regional Australia and purchasing online is my only real option)
