ASUS Announces ROG SWIFT PG278Q Premium Gaming Monitor

This is a right fuckin monitor!

Seriously its a right piece of kit. If your a serious PC/Tech enthusiast you need to buy one of these.

G-Sync - Meh, don't really see the point with such a high refresh rate, even at lower frame rates I don't see what its doing that is so magic everyone is talking about. Also introduces some kind of flicker on menu's and stuff.

However 2560x1440, 144Hz, imperceivable input lag and fantastic image quality and colours make this the best monitor I have ever used. The only downer is the TN viewing angles but even for a TN these are good.

Its pixel perfect as well. Black uniformity could be better but nothing too bad. Pictures and videos to come. Its worth every penny!

You are the first person to not notice the effects of G-Sync..

I never play any game with V-Sync on so I'll post my first impressions when I get it. I hardly notice frame tearing in 90% of games. In the other 10% I just ignore it.

Well I just spammed F5 on amazon for about 30 minutes. Finally able to get an order in for one.

"In stock but may require an additional 1-2 days for processing"

I am absolutely fine with that. =)

Seems they have more in stock right meow! GO GOGOG OG OGOGOGOGOG OG OGOG OGOG OGOGO!

Count my mate in as well then because we both ran with and without on a number of games and were both a bit

Care to elaborate on what it does other than reduce screen tearing and remove input lag?

It reduces screen tearing and removes input lag...That's what it is supposed to do.

Thought as much, I can't say I notice much tearing without it. With a high refresh the image changes so fast that I hardly notice it. I suppose it would be more noticeable on a 60Hz refresh rate. Anyway from all the hype I read people said it's supposed to make 60FPS feel like 120FPS. That is not true.

Anyway G-Sync is there so that's an added bonus I suppose but I bought this for the image quality and performance and it performs :)

Looks like the site is freaking out again...

BenQ may you please release something comparable asap so ASUS doesn't get my money for doing this short supply.

I agree with your point on 1440p & 144Hz, the input lag is impercepatable and even adaptive vsync shows no tearing so far. However; I think gsync is superior because the refresh rate matching the framerate makes the game so much smoother looking to me. I had flickering at first but fixed it with a driver wipe/re-install and removed my physx card.

It is a right good monitor!

They were saying DONT think it does that because it doesn't!

G-Sync is for people that are bothered by tearing and input lag on their existing monitor. Its magically gone now, two birds with one stone!

If these two things NEVER bothered you before, then you fall into another camp, a camp where people still say this monitor is revolutionary and they notice how much smoother things feel.

The other aspect of the monitor is running it at 120-144hz ULMB, which (unless you turn down the settings in games) isnt going to be of much use on the latest AAA titles for most people. Most people are only rockin one decent graphics card and just cant push that kind of framerate with high settings. If you play old or less demanding games, if you dont mind your textures looking like poo, or if you're lucky enough to have two titan's in SLI, then 144hz ULMB is probably what you should be using instead.

You can always flip flop between the two technologies depending on which game you load up as well.

mine will turn up today, as far as calibration and setup, what are you guys doing? just a quick by eye or going further into it?

I heard it was pretty good out of the box?

Cheers

I'm so butthurt over Asus totally shitty handling of this product launch that I'm not even giving a shit about buying any more. Seriously, stuff like this used to be an insta buy, but the F5ing needed to secure even a friggin back order is fucking stupid. 8 months of product delay launches and they ship twenty units of product over on a sipan....I feel like Asus took a dump on my chest, which is odd because they are those who would pay good money for that.

My Newegg back-order was just marked as shipped. I did 3 day shipping because the 2 day was a huge jump in cash (over 40 bucks).

Damn, I squeezed a back order in yesterday and now my status says 2-4 weeks.

newegg says they wont fullfill backorders until 9/15, grrrr

Same. Newegg can go to hell. Special membership cancelled, order cancelled. I don't tolerate this kind of technical failure. Don't let me Backorder if it's not going to come in within the timeframe you specify when I click the button.

Not too keen on ULMB either, makes things look weird and I don't like the reduced brightness. Each to their own I guess. Anyway I am happy with it at 2560x1440, its rapid. Pixel response looks faster than the XL2720Z I tried as well.

I mostly play CS:GO and its sweet.

I think its too bright out of the box. I used TFT Central's Icc profile, brightness 20, contrast 50 all recommended by TFT Central.

No idea if this was just a whoopsie on their end. We'll see if it actually ships...

When this monitor was selling on Amazon, how much was it? $$

/\ The guy above me posted while I was browsing previous pages.

Is Vega removing the AG on these?

I paid tax at B&H... I'm just happy to have one with my name on it.

Just got one also on Amazon, after spamming off and on for about a half hour this afternoon. Well time to cancel my Newegg back order.

So I use an HDMI receiver for my audio. My swift is obviously connected via display port. Currently I have audio setup to output via HDMI on the video card, but that causes the pc to extend desktop even though there is no second display. Is there anyway to prevent the desktop expansion and still use HDMI sound passthrough?

EDIT.

Ok never mind one problem solved. I used the HDMI output on my P8Z77-V pro mobo instead, hoping that will take some of the load off the gpu. It still extends the display, but I've got audio via that output which is a step in the right direction, wasn't working before. Guess i just gotta figure out how to either clone the display, or prevent the mouse from moving to that extended desktop at all.

EDIT 2

Found a compact little program to lock the mouse on my main screen. Problem solved. Sorry for wasting a post.

holy shit, I don't have this monitor but I have the same two screen BS because of sound/hdmi. I've been using it as two screens for a while now.

Thanks for posting this.

edit: only this this doesn't do is allow windows to SNAP things to that corner/side like it usually does in windows 7.

I'm giving it the college try on Amazon, but not even 1-click is fast enough when I refresh and see them available.

So anyone using this and a non g sync monitor able to get full screen g sync working on with normal mode on the other monitor?

It shouldn't be a problem.
I have a modded VG248QE running full-screen gsync and I have 6 other monitors running at the same time in normal mode just fine.

Alright guys I need an honest opinion. 290X owner here, I currently have a 24" 144hz ASUS. Is this monitor worth it for those without an nvidia card?

Yep, this works fine. I am having some odd issues though with 3D Vision and SLI however.

Overall I'm pleased with the panel, although I will say the dimming/blackscreen during boot etc are not as good as my VG278H. There is an odd half-oval pattern on the right side of my screen that is the only thing that really bothers me. Bottom bleed was bad out of the box but it has subsided. There is also still some graininess on the desktop although some of this is due to the AG matte polarizer. Also, the inversion artifacts in 3D Vision mode are not understated, it is a downgrade from the VG278H (one of the best last-gen 3D vision panels). Gonna breakt he panel in over the weekend and see if some of the odd patterns and panel uniformity issues subside enough that I can live with the flaws. No dead pixels at least.

Now, with all the negatives out of the way. G-Sync is truly amazing. No tearing of course, and much smoother, less lag/stutters. Its so good that I would rather play D3 in 2D with G-Sync than play it in 3D with just 1 GPU.

I'll probably reinstall Windows this weekend to see if that fixes this. I know its a driver issue bc 3D with SLI isn't working on my VG278H anymore either. It also works fine in a few other games, just D3 giving me problems.
