ASUS Announces ROG SWIFT PG278Q Premium Gaming Monitor

I wonder how closely the people who claim "no dead pixels" actually look. I swear, every single > 1080p screen I've bought in my life had at least one dead or stuck pixel. But I was super OCD about looking for them. I wonder... Is my luck really that bad or are dead pixels fairly prevalent? I'm thinking they're fairly prevalent. More than people like to admit.

I rather not do a pixel test, I usually only notice blatant ones. So far my Korean has been pixel perfect, over a year and not a pixel noticed. After trading in my 3 ASUS monitors I finally noticed a dead pixel on it a year later. :/

I don't have any dead pixels & the blacklight is even. If I am nitpicking there is a faint black smudge on the bottom right corner of the monitor on a red test page that disappears looking at it at an angle

I think most people notice them at some point. It sounds like you've just had bad luck, but it helps if you buy brands that have better pixel policies.

I have bought 8 LCDs over the past 10 years without getting a single dead pixel.

I have owned or tried at least 25 different monitors and I recall only 1 monitor ever having a dead pixel. I am OCD about that and check like crazy.

I already have the tracking number also from FedEx. For those curious how I ended up with the $599.99 Newegg gift card... I got it when I returned my Radeon HD 7990 graphics card a couple of months ago.

This really is the first LCD to be "good enough" for gaming, in my opinion. The blacks stink on it, but overall, it plays any type of game (FPS, old arcade games, console games) really well.

This is a really fantastic option for a monitor for an arcade cabinet, because you can run everything on it well.

Has anyone who ordered from PCNation had an update on their order yet? I canceled mine and went for a TigerDirect preorder instead despite the fact that it was more expensive due to shipping.

Did not like that the PG278Q's product page was removed from PCNation.

I have one dead pixel on my Yamakasi. On a 2560 27" screen the pixels are small enough that I don't notice it unless I load an all black image and look for it. It's less of a problem imo than it used to be. My Dell U2410s have all been perfect.

After dealing with TD for two days trying to get my order processed since apparently the information I provided wasn't good enough for them, along with being put on hold for over an hour only to be hung up on, I have cancelled the order. When I purchased it Saturday it stated that the monitor was "In Stock" and after checking again, they say it is back ordered and don't know when it will be in stock. Now it's 3-5 business days before the hold will be taken off of my account.

Cool. So I'll never buy anything from TD again.

I love this monitor! I have it set to gsync always on and i set vsync off in the game profiles for my fps games. Once I load up my fps game i use the turbo key to switch to 120hz for ULMB.

For those of you that have it already besides being great for gaming how is the picture quality since this is an 8 bit panel and it's a TN panel after all?

I have an Asus PB278Q IPS 1440P right next to it and it has a bit richer colors and deeper blacks but not that much better. I can drag windows back and forth and the difference isn't that much at all. I think the desktop image quality is very good. I used TFT Central's icc profile and suggested brightness/contrast. Even though my IPS looks better, the faster refresh rate on my rog swift is much smoother with less eye strain.

As far as gaming goes: The Rog Swift's Gsync makes games so smooth that you have to see it in person. I was experimenting in games between gsync, adaptive vsync, adaptive half-refresh vsync, regular vsync, buffered vsync, and nothing compares to the smoothness and feel of gsync.

any input as far as overclocking cards and using g sync?

my only beef with this screen are vertical viewing angles, or viewing angles in general. coming from an IPS and PLS screens, it's kind of disappointing.

even a slight vertical head tilt and i start seeing color shifting, i.e. the colors at the bottom start to wash out when i even slightly lean towards the screen. as with most people, i tend to slide in my chair over time, so this is slightly discomforting.

didn't notice this in games "so far", because i'm always in awe of the fluidity of the action :D

any input as far as overclocking cards and using g sync?

i have a factory OCed Gigabyte GTX680 with 4GB of VRAM and don't have any problems with it.

It finally showed up on Amazon but from a third party seller that's trying to price gouge for it. Last I looked it was priced at $977.

Good luck with that asshole.

There is nothing wrong with what those people are doing. If you don't like the price, don't buy it. Allowing prices to rise during shortages is the best way to allocate limited resources. The guys who really want the monitor are happy to pay the higher price to get it sooner, and the guys who don't want it as badly will wait a bit for the price to come down and get it later. If prices were fixed (like with Newegg) it just becomes a lottery of random chance. I'd rather have some in stock at a higher price I can buy if I want to than none in stock anywhere because everyone sold at MSRP.

UPS updated delivery for today, will get to DC from CA in 2 days using 3 day shipping. Impressive! :D Thought about calling out but I'll have all of tomorrow and the long weekend to play around with it.

Wait what? How do you get a console hooked up to it?

Vega mentioned 10-ft is the limit for this monitor. Can someone with the stock cable please measure? If the stock cable is shorter, has anyone tried 10-ft yet?

Edit: power cable length would be useful too.

Be careful. I ordered from TD on Saturday too and although the said they cancelled it it shipped out anyways.

The TD rep. I spoke with yesterday when I cancelled my order hinted that they may not be able to pull my order back from the distributor, even for the Sept. shipments. I expect to get the display even though the order's been cancelled.

I've been pondering who to buy from. I reside in MA. Tried to buy a $20 dollar item from Tiger Direct a few years ago and it was so ass backwards and frustrating I wrote them off for good. Newegg has no tax but there is a restocking fee and they ain't what they used to be. B&H Photo has no tax but their printed policy says no returns on computer hardware. Amazon charges tax but has the best return policy if you buy from their warehouse. Also there is no indication Amazon will even carry it. Any other good vendors for the east coast? I could always drive to NH and buy brick-n-mortar with no tax.

I signed up for Neweggs Premier 30-day free trial incase shit goes south and i have to return it. Free return shipping.

FYI, according to one of their forum reps NCIX is getting their first shipment today. Hope I'm lucky enough to be in on it. Their pre-orders started on Aug 11, so if you got in that early you may be getting a shipping notification today.

My Belkin F2CD000b10-E 10-foot DP cable I got on Amazon.com works just fine with the rog swift monitor at 144Hz so far.

Hope I can find a way to hook my consoles up to it, I'm tired of having to play on a laggy TV for consoles, need something smoother

I don't think it's possible. The monitor has no onboard scaler which reduces latency of inputs. You would need to buy a specific monitor for gaming with console support. I believe the closet thing is the 27" BenQ monitors but they're only 1080p.

My swift came with a 6ft DP cable.

I just now pre-ordered one from B&H, after checking their return-policy details on their site and with the phone salesman. I never trust the latter, but their Return Policy's section specifies that the exemption on returns applies to displays that 37" or larger:

"No Return/Exchange on the following:

TVs, combos and monitors 37" and larger once any of the packaging has been opened."

Between Newegg selling out incoming batch inventory in less than ~20 minutes, yesterday and the supply-demand ratio making this a perfect candidate for hyper-microeconomics insane elasticity (aka. "Price Gouging"), I just want a pre-order confirmation from somewhere reasonable and sitting in my Inbox that's not costing more than what I've already set aside for months.

I haven't been this excited, since getting my Sony FW900 off an ebay seller, years ago. Hopefully it will last longer than 6 months, however.

;)

Of course I am continuing to regret ordering this from TigerDirect. Day 3 and I still have 0 info on my purchase. Is it typical for TD not to charge until the item is shipped when shipped via 3rd party drop shipment? I paid via paypal and its still showing an authorization hold, but I haven't not been told there is a payment issue in anyway.

I feel like my order is stuck in limbo. TD csr's can't or won't tell me anything since it is a drop ship fulfillment. Shouldn't they be able to contact their distributor to find out whats going on?

I am back ordered on new egg and 'purchased' from TD. I purchased it on the 25th when they had it shown as 'in stock' for about 30 minutes.

I plan on just cancelling one once one of them goes through. Also waiting on amazon as well, but no ETA on when they might start selling
