Dreams came true. Curved 21:9 3440 x 1440

Awesome, thanks! Very glad they listened to those of us wanting a curved version of the 34UM95.

Wonder how long until the 34UC97 comes to market? And how insane the pricing will be?

Hmm nice thanks for this but isn't an oculus rift enough for that immersive experience?

Im wondering just HOW curved it will be..

And more importantly when it will start shipping, so i can pick up 3 and stack them sideways beside eachother

My dream display will be a revolutionary fast IPS, 120Hz with G-sync and some form of motion blur reduction irrelevant of resolution/size, as long as it's 24"/1080p (saves me some bucks too, win-win) it's fine. :p

Not all can wear/use/like Occulus. Tried it, and I don't feel well with it. That monitor is for people like me :)

Alrighty then me too I am quite skeptical though its presence and development could not be denied nowadays..
Yeah I feel like monitors are here to stay!

Curved might be nice, as far as it doesn't rise price too much (as vendors love to charge extra for first models in niche). If price is only slightly higher, i guess that curvature pros of more uniform color output might outweight cons, eg. that working only in set focus distance. Otherwise i'd skip this due ultrawide aspect ratio i hate and rather wait for worthy big 4K panels with solved input limitations/problems in a year. So let's say .. dreams are different to each one, and this certainly isn't mine.

As someone with a um94 on the way; I'd be curious how much a difference this makes (vs price difference). Regardless; I think his is the direction monitors need to go moving forward. Done are the days of dinky displaces... :D

Dafuq.... but I just bought the non-curved!!!

Oh well, at least it's not OLED, so I think I'll just pass on this one. I'd be so pissed...

^ I have two of the 34UM94s from Massdrop shipping in about 3 weeks so I feel extra bad, but I think the curved thing is more of a gimmick than anything. The only way I see it making an incredible amount of difference is on the level of IMAX size screens. But that is purely my speculation and opinion, unfortunately I haven't seen any curved displays in person to make that judgement.

A slight curve on the ultrawide should help minimize the visibility of any IPS glow in the far corners, right?

The IPS glow on my Panasonic TV seems to disappear if I'm sitting in just the right spot.

Yes, I think that is the main advantage. No IPS glow from the centered view and very even image reproduction across the display.

Good, now they should make a 50"+ curved 5120x2160 screen, that's gonna be the holy grail! :D

Sounds good for those who haven't jumped on the 21:9 ratio yet but for me who already has the LG 34UM95 my next jump will be to 4k so this monitor came too late for me. I bet you wont see them in store until just before Xmas, it could even be after the holidays, so for those wanting one there is going to be a wait. I'm glad to see LG making these monitors though. 2015 is going to be a good year for 21:9 and 4k monitors.

This seems like it's going to be fairly expensive, considering it's wide gamut. Wasn't the previous 34" model sRGB only and still expensive?

I would think if you wanted 3 screens it would be better to not have the curved type monitor. Better to have the flat type and yes there would still be some stretch distortion with the extra two monitors. One curved would be better so wait for the big curved units. Probably something 4k and curved.

Hmm nice thanks for this but isn't an oculus rift enough for that immersive experience?

I demo'd the Oculus Rift at this year's E3 and it's not ready yet. When it is ready it's going to require a crazy amount of vid card power. I tried it with two of their demos, one was a Mario Bros looking game, another was a space fighter simulation (think Wing Commander).

There's a bad "screen door effect" when looking through the Rift. This is due to that it's resolution isn't high enough yet and being that close to your eye, you can really tell. So the clarity isn't there yet. They have plans to eventually make each eye display 4k, but that's what I mean about the vid card power required to push 4k to each eye?

It has headtracking, and was cool to look around while you're using the controller and moving your guy around. It was immersive with nice 3d effect though. I reminds me of when that 3D Mario came out in 1994-95 for the Nintendo N64. First playing that 3D Mario and how cool that was. It's similar to that, but with a low resolution issue currently.

You also do start to get a mild headache after a bit, but not everyone will be affected by that.

The biggest issue with RIFT is not the hardware, it's that it will die and go nowhere if more developers don't sign up and start making games on the thing. Only serious dev was Id Software with Doom 3 version, but it needs more support than that or it won't ever take off

Don't think the curved ultrawide 34UC97 is wide-gamut. The only mention of color space in the article was for the 4k 31MU97, with 99% of Adobe RGB.

I thought it was 960x1080 per eye to make 1920x1080. So 4k would be 1920x2160 per eye. 4k still requires some graphic power but better than double.. If it was 3840x2160 per eye then that would be 7680x2160..crazy.

This. Except the resolution should be 4K with option for 1080p signal pixel doubling. 24"-26" is the sweet spot in my opinion.

curved in the center and 2 flat ones on the sides for ultimate curved eyefitnity

Gotta go 3x curved for a proper command center..

:D

These are the returned 34UM95s with excessive light bleed on the corners.

They are pressing and bending its edges to get rid of the bleeding.

:D:cool::D

Here's what 3 of these curved LG monitors will look like.

Also, I would like to see someone make an ultra thin bezel monitor. The monitor controls can be put on the back. Something like this would look awesome.

Is it just me, or do those not look like 34" ultrawides in that picture?

Still sweet, though.

Fyi, the 34UM94 is expected in the US this Wednesday.

hopefully all these issues are fixed on the 94 version.

hate to have to sell the monitor for the curved one in under a year, but i'm pretty sure the price will be much higher considering the prices for curved monitors/tv vs non curved monitors/tv atm.

Radius of the curvature seems to be 3.8 meters. Not ideal at all.

Immersion-wise, this means that you'll improve your horizontal FOV (HFOV) by only few percent.

Dunno. The 34UM95 has been out for almost a year, and when LG starts introducing new products, the prices on their older products start to plummet.

It seems the demand for their flat 34" ultrawides is still far greater than the supply (and probably why street price is still above MSRP), but I'm sure that could easily change pretty quickly once demand starts shifting to the new curved variations.

Most people are still only willing to spend a certain amount on any TV or display, whatever the new tech. LG can certainly ask an insane price of $5k or whatever for the new 34UC97 (if they're happy not selling many). ~$999 to replace the UM95, and it should sell about as well as the UM95 did (which is still way too high for any consumer-grade PC monitor, imo).
