SilverStone Nightjar NJ520 520W Fanless PSU Review - What is more quiet than a computer power supply with a fan? You guessed it, a PSU with no fan. This unit has small footprint builds in mind featuring excellent Platinum efficiency, flexible flat cables, and of course no sound profile to speak of. Does the 520 watt rated SilverStone Nightjar hold up when we put it in the incubator?

I'm a bit surprised not to see a Silver Award here. I know the warranty is a bit short, and the price a bit high for what it is, but for a class-leading unit, I would expect the award. But hey- If I needed a small fanless unit, I'd definitely buy the seasonic this was based on.
Great review though:)

So the seasonic it's based on is 10-20 dollars cheaper, and it has a longer warranty.

What the fuck was Silverstone thinking?

Since there is a blank image at the end of the article over the power supplies name, is it safe to assume that it won an award, and just didn't have the image linked?

I think that's were the "Pass" image is supposed to be.

I don't think it won an award; if it had, the article would have mentioned it.

Good review and power supply but IMO it runs kind of hot, it should have had bigger heat sinks especially considering the price. For instance my Corsair AX860i runs in fanless mode pretty much all the time and fans don't even need to kick in when I'm gaming. Highest temp I've registered on it was maybe 35c. That PSU cost me just under $200 for 860w and it is also 80+ Platinum but I find it pulls highest efficiency that this unit.

I agree. the price is a bit steep, but the quality of the product you're buying is apparently unparalleled. I, for one, would like to see at least a Silver award. Passing the [H] test gauntlet with a fanless setup AND posting leading numbers is a serious feat.

That was a 100% editor screw up. Fixed. Paul thought it was fully Gold worthy.

I wonder if the orientation of the PSU has an effect on the temperature? I have my Silverpower fanless PSU in a vertical orientation so in theory cold air flows in the sides and hot air out the top

Note the text along the top edge of the PSU in this pic:

So I assume the [H] tests were done in that orientation.

Interesting if we could run these x2 with 780ti in sli

Yes, but not SFF: I use a Silverstone FT02 which requires the PSU to be rotated vertical.

That orientation requirement for NJ520 is absolutely necessary if there are no passive airflow around the PSU. If you are going to use it in the FT02, then there should be plenty of residual airflow to help cool NJ520 even in vertical position.
